Prince Imrahil's daughter Lothíriel and Éomer got married, which makes Èomer Imrahil's son-in-law.

lord of dor-lomin 03-04-2003 09:34 AM

Correct!

Alright then, series of questions concerning Kings of Mark:
1. With what name was King Théodon referred to in the legends of Rohan and why was this name used?
2. Who was the king when Saruman came to Isengard?
3. Which king had twinsons who died in Ithilien (TA 2885)?

Goldberry 03-08-2003 09:19 PM

Hmmm . . . I'll try #2. I'm guessing it's Helm Hammerhand. If it's not him, then it must be the king directly after him, who I don't know the name of.

Annunfuiniel 03-09-2003 01:10 AM

Yes, your second guess was right, it was not Helm himself but his nephew, Fréalaf Hildeson who followed him to the throne.
So we have 1 out of 3 right. Need more answers!

Tinuviel of Denton 05-21-2003 11:44 PM

Here's an interesting question.

How old was Aragorn in the Fellowship of the Ring?

Hint: it's not obvious

Helkahothion 05-22-2003 06:12 AM

52?

Eruanna 05-22-2003 04:10 PM

To answer Annun's other two questions:

1) Théoden Ednew; he was called this in the lore of Rohan because he had fallen under the spells of Saruman and was healed by Gandalf the White.

3) King Folcwine; his twin sons Folcred and Fastred went into battle, in his place, and were killed.

And I believe Aragorn was 87 or 88 years old at the beginning of the Fellowship's journey.

Ok, i dont know the answers to the horsemen questions (except the ones already stated ) but:
Without looking in the book, Without going on the net, without asking somebody else, with NO cheating at all, fill this in:
Gimli son of _____, son of _____, son of _____, son of _____, son of King ____ the Second ,son of King ___, son of King _____. being a gimli fan i know this of by heart. lets see how far you get. and NO CHEATING

Helkahothion 05-25-2003 01:15 PM

It goes that far back?

I thought it ended with Gloín. I only know Gimli son of Gloín. I know that he is the nephew of Balin, but my knowledge ends there. I just finished the Hobbit, which I finaly got my hands on.

Who was the King under the mountain before Dain and how did he die?

Was Dain the rightfull heir of the lonely mountain?

Suilad,

Anuion

the guy who be short 05-25-2003 02:26 PM

never mind about not knowing that, im just a major dwarf fan, ive memorised gimli's ancestory to durin the sixth!
lemme see... dains father. dain ironfoots was nain the second, right?
ooh... this is so embarrassing, seeing as ive read the dwarf appendices so many times. i should know all this!
i believe he was the heir to... now, if ive got this straight, he was one of the three children of Nain the second. The third, id say. but thorin had been killed... so yes, he was heir to the throne. his father was killed in a battle somewhere? perhaps the battle of Nanduhirion (known also as Azanulbizar)?
just so you know, if any of this is wrong, i did not look at the appendices or anywhere. this was all from my hazy memory. im gonna check im right now

EDIT: i was wrong i got my nains and dains all confused. there were two dain son of nains damn them! lol, never mind.

Helkahothion 05-26-2003 02:04 PM

Nope wrong.

Dain was not the rightfull ruler, he got the mountain after Thorin died in the battle fo the five battles.

wow, outsmarted a dwarffan. This really is a weird day.

Anuion

And wrong again: Naugrim!

God, I feel so smart.

the guy who be short 05-30-2003 04:07 AM

No, Naugrim was the name given to them by the blasted elves. stunted people, my a$$. stupid elves.
We called our fathers the Seven fathers.

Helkahothion 05-30-2003 04:10 AM

Not what Tolkien said

Nah kidding. Indeed did Aulë called them that. Just thought I'd give a witty responce.

So, which two swords where found together with Orcrist? Not too hard either.

Suilad,

Anuion

purplefluffychainsaw 05-30-2003 09:40 AM

*applause for purplefluffychainsaw* Very good! Let's see, now another question...

In the books, how many times did Frodo put on the Ring? If you can say when and where also you get more points.

Helkahothion 05-30-2003 01:45 PM

People actualy know that?

Sapphire_Flame 06-10-2003 03:26 PM

Yeah, they do. I'm seeing if anyone here knows it!

Heheh, happy 666th post to me!

Sorry, beats me. And I can't tell for the movie since Rotk is not out in the open yet.

Suilad,

Anuion

Sapphire_Flame 06-11-2003 10:48 AM

Okay, fine, I'll think of a different question.........

Who created the Ents? I know you'll know this, Helka, mister I-read-the-Silmarillion-in-only-two-days.

Abedithon le!

Orofaniel 06-11-2003 11:03 AM

Yavanna, the vala, created the Ents....Yavanna, queen of the Earth...

At least I think so...

Helkahothion 06-11-2003 11:43 AM

Just for the record, it was not in my version of the silm, but didn't the elf did that? You know by talking to them and whispering the ents learned the language and started moving. That is what was in Lotr.

Suilad,

Anuion

Orofaniel 06-11-2003 11:50 AM

Yeah, you are right. The elves thought them to talk. But Yavanna created them. That's what I've read!

Helkahothion 06-11-2003 11:53 AM

Ah, so the flowers that were sleeping and later woke up, were the ents? I still don't get it. How did it happen?

Orofaniel 06-11-2003 12:01 PM

Quote:

Elvish histories tell how, when Varda, Queen of the Heavens, rekindled the Stars and The Elves awoke, the Ents also awoke in the Great Forest of Arda. They came from the thoughts of Yavanna, Queen of Earth, and were her Shepherds of Trees
Quote:

When they first awoke, Ents could not speak, but the Elves thought them the art and they loved it greatly.
I think Yavanna created them and the elves learned them to speak...

Helkahothion 06-11-2003 12:06 PM

Ah, so technacly they where the creation of Yavanna. Makes sence now

Then there are the eagles: Who created them? Was it Manwë? He used their services most of all the Valar.

Suilad,

Anuion

purplefluffychainsaw 06-11-2003 01:15 PM

Yeah, it was Manwe.

Sapphire_Flame 06-12-2003 10:27 AM

Dang, you people guess mine too easily! I might have to go back to my question about how many times Frodo wore the Ring.

Okay. How did Sauron die? (the first time) This is way too easy, but I'm trying to think of a real killer. Stay tuned...

the guy who be short 06-12-2003 11:15 AM

He sunk in the fall of Numenor. Or else the last alliance after that. But none of them were real deaths, were they now?

Sapphire_Flame 06-12-2003 01:27 PM

You caught me, guy. Don't ya just love trick questions?

Novlamothien 06-15-2003 07:20 AM

I will try to answer how many times Frodo wore the Ring, I might have missed some, though.

1. @Tom Bombadil's house.
2. @ The Prancing Pony.
3. On Weathertop.
4. At the Breaking of the Fellowship.
5. On Mt. Doom
