I was just doing a Science review on the computer and instead of Perihelion, I started to write Peredhel! Help me!

Arafangwen 05-01-2003 09:47 PM

I keep reading random words as names of people here on the Downs! It's very frustrating! I almost failed a quiz the other day when I answerd a lot of the question with you guys' names on accident!

Airehiriel 05-02-2003 07:36 AM

I went to visit my family the other day, and I passed a street called Corbain, twice, and each time I first thought it said Crebain.

Shy Hobbit 05-02-2003 03:18 PM

This has got to be the wierdest one yet. This morning I saw a motor home that said "Swimmer" and I thought it said Boromir.

Also: Longhorns= Fangorn

dragoneyes 05-02-2003 03:55 PM

There was a violin with a name tag on it and this person's name was Elstone, I just thought that 'Elfstone' was such a great name. until I stared at it for a bit longer and finally realised that it was a normal name.

Firondoiel 05-02-2003 06:45 PM

The other day I passed this street called Estes and thought it was Estel. And last night I was reading the Bible for our family devotions and I had to read the word eleven about four times and each time I almost said elven! That would have been soooo bad!

In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets there's this huge spider named Aragog.

So when I was watching the movie for the first time whenever someone would say Aragog I'd always hear Aragorn instead. I was like "What? They changed it's name to Aragorn!" It was driving me crazy.

Luinalatawen 05-05-2003 04:42 PM

Oh my, oh my! Today I was taking my AP English Lit test and there were two poems comparing Eros, the Greek god of love. I was well on my way with writing my essay, and I suddenly stopped and almost burst out laughing. I realized that I wasn't writing Eros, I was writing Elros!! You could only imagine my surprise; there I am, trying to take a test that could earn me some college credit, and I'm not even spelling things right! And then, of course, I was thinking of the BarrowDowns and how I have to come and tell you ppl about this... ARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGG!!! I don't think I'm going to get a very good score...

Arafangwen 05-08-2003 01:36 PM

The other day on my way to work we were driving through a neighborhood and passed this wood fence that had LOTT on it, OF COURSE I turned around and stared at it thinking, "That's a great idea! LOTR on your fence!". Then I relized what it actualy said, I now call that house "Lord Of The Trees", there are a million trees in that backyard.....

kittiewhirl1677 05-08-2003 01:56 PM

I was recently doing this word search, and I had SO MANY word hallucinations, it's not even funny... well, it isn't anyway, but.

Yeah.
Um.
So anyway, I also have a lot of problems with periodic tables and LotR, especially since we're doing chemistry in science right now and I spend to much time with the periodic table...

I made a list of the word halluciantions I had with the word search, so if I find that list I'll put it up here.

Everdawn 05-09-2003 01:16 AM

someone had probably already said this.. but... I was reading the astrology and came across, Virgo... it looks remarkably like Viggo if you are skimming..

Mizu the Disco Llama 05-17-2003 05:01 PM

You ppeople are contaminating my mind...I'll never look at a periodic table the same way again!

Yes, that always happens to me!! I've seen that movie at least four times (probably more, I'm not keeping track) an it bugs me sooo bad.
other word hallucinations:
Narnia=narsil
tinfoil=tengwar
spider=strider(ha! aragog=aragorn and spider=strider! )

Mizu the Disco Llama 05-17-2003 08:10 PM

Ooh, I've got one now.... Barometer = Boromir....I really need to stop watching the Waether Channel, neh?

ElenCala Isil 05-17-2003 10:53 PM

ahh, a few people were talking to each other at my table in science and they said trippin' but I could have sworn I heard Pippin! same thing happened with 'holder' I heard 'haldir' and a few others that have already been mentioned!

Everdawn 05-18-2003 01:43 AM

*laughing* Mizu the disco Lama... thats the coolest name ive ever seen!....

Daewen 05-18-2003 01:06 PM

I was in science class and i thought that Lithuim was Luthien and Titanium (which came right after that) was Tinuviel and that Argon was Aragorn. Also, when I was painting a pillar (that is going to be used in our graduation) with some other members of the graduation comitee, i kept asking them to put a white handprint on me...no one did...

the guy who be short 05-18-2003 03:22 PM

i was in leicester and i thought Moira street was Moria street. i need help.

Luinalatawen 05-20-2003 05:15 PM

Guy who be short, I did the same thing! I was flipping through a copy of Peter Pan or something for some strange reason, and I thought I saw Moria and got all excited. Much to my dismay, upon further investigation, I found that in reality it was Moira, the character's name.

Sapphire_Flame 05-21-2003 11:25 AM

I was reading a book of Darwin Awards, and one of the nominations was from Dunedin, New Zealand. I honestly thought it said Dunedain, New Zealand. o.O Now wouldn't that have been too cool...

Everdawn 05-22-2003 02:23 AM

Anyone do Ancient History?, anyway, I had a test on Mesopotamia and there is a story called the epic of Gilgamesh... now do you really have to think hard to know what i wrote all over my exam?...

...(for thoes who live under rocks, it was Gil-Galad)...

Arafangwen 05-22-2003 10:53 AM

Now I'm seeing 'Hallucination' as 'Helkahothion', yeah, more Barrow Downers names as words. Proper, is now, propagandalf. Glide, is now, Gil-Galad. And now doom is a muffin(for all you crazy scene with pics peeps). Bye all!

Nimrothiel 06-01-2003 09:02 PM

I have it real bad. I've got a copy of "Bored of the Rings," and whenever I read that and then the original trilogy after it I get the names completely screwed up.
For example:

Frodo=Frito
Gollem=Goddam
Aragorn son of Arathorn=Arrowroot son of Arrowshirt
and so on...

Lasgalen 06-02-2003 04:16 AM

Someone had written something about Elvis in their signature. For the longest time I thought it said Elvish.

Lucinda 06-02-2003 09:36 AM

hey, Sapphire Flame, i live in the place the legend of gil gamesh (or gil-galad, if you wish!) is set! Well, almost! Just across the king faisal causeway from dilmun!(or Bahrain, as it now is) Do you think I would turn immortal if I ate a bahraini pearl? or just shed my skin?

the guy who be short 06-02-2003 10:30 AM

Eru save me! In science, we were learning about Mary Mallon, a carrier of typhoid. I instantly thought mellon andmallorn. And just now i typed it Mallorn and deleted the 'n'! Argh!

kittiewhirl1677 06-04-2003 08:00 PM

This is pretty scary. I'm reading one of the Star Trek: TNG books, and I've come across so many words that look like Legolas that it's pretty freaky...
For example:
Legions of Klingon warriors = Legolas of Klingong warriors

They're nothing alike! Klingons and elves? BAD BAD BAD mix....

Solomon = Sauron

Another one from my book up above. This is really creeping me out.

Yavanna228 06-04-2003 08:41 PM

This is kind of retarded, and I don't know if this is exactly hallucination worthy, but I saw an '87' on my friend's shirt, and I automatically thought 'Beren87.' Isn't that horrible? Actually, I think about you guys' names alot. They will stick in my mind and go round and round. It's quite...odd.
Peace

Sapphire_Flame 06-05-2003 01:56 PM

This is kinda weird, but everytime I see Ainaserkwen's name I automatically think it says Andy Serkis. Was that intentional??

ElenCala Isil 06-05-2003 02:34 PM

err.. well my mom said hobo instead of hobbit once...it was really annoying, she kept saying hobo intentionally afterwards

Luinalatawen 06-05-2003 05:41 PM

Yavanna228, when I read the "87" in your post, I also automatically thought "Beren87!!" And Sapphire, Ainaserkewen reminds me of Andy Serkis's name too.

By the way, Daewen and ElenCala, I like your new avatars.

ElenCala Isil 06-05-2003 06:14 PM

Thanks yeah, it does seem like Andy Serkis to me too.. hehe

Whew! Glad I'm not the only one like that. Ainaserkewen is another name that sticks in my mind alot. On a bit more of a Tolkienish note, whenever I read the name Hurin in the books, for some reason, my mind thinks 'Huorn.'
Peace

kittiewhirl1677 06-05-2003 07:13 PM

At play rehersal we were fooling around, and I was talking about LotR, and my play teacher was like, "Ok, yes, let's get on with it... You can talk about Bimbo later..."

We were all like, "Who???"

And he kept saying it a and we didn't have a clue of what he was talking about... finally I go, "Do you mean Bilbo?"
And he goes, "Oh, yes, Bimbo, I mean, um, Bilbo, yes him..."

And then we all cracked up... it was hillarious!

Horse-Maiden of the Shire 06-05-2003 09:37 PM
