hopefully this will actually work this time...Eomer is the odd one out because he is of an "inferior"-bad terminology-race: Aragorn is of the Men of Numenor, Legolas is an Elf and Gandalf is Maia, but the Men of Rohan are stated to be of lesser make than those of Numenor...that's my answer at any rate

Telchar 11-06-2001 02:51 AM

Nope and Nope although both guesses are good!

HINT: Transportation

Eowyn of Ithilien 11-06-2001 04:58 AM

lol oh ye of the cryptic clues!

Telchar 11-06-2001 06:20 AM

HINT2: BAGGAGE

Gwaihir the Windlord 11-06-2001 10:38 PM

Eomer? All the others carried baggage during their journeys at some stage. Eomer didn't.

Telchar 11-07-2001 02:47 AM

NOPE

HINT3: " Baggage "

Turambar 11-07-2001 06:58 AM

Does it have something to do with the way they rode horses?

Telchar 11-07-2001 10:04 AM

Horses YES - Riding style - NO - three of them carried the same thing around at various time - the 4th didn't

Tz-Mc 11-07-2001 04:27 PM

Gandalf because he rode shadowfax?

Gwaihir the Windlord 11-07-2001 10:35 PM

Legolas. the others carried swords.

Telchar 11-08-2001 02:23 AM

Nope and Nope

HINT4: The "baggage" is something specific - it cant be carried on two or three different horses at the same time - sometimes one of them carried "it" along - other times one of the others carried "it" along - one of them never carried "it" along

Eowyn of Ithilien 11-08-2001 04:23 AM

specific...as in one of the hobbits??????????
I don't think Legolas ever carried a hobbit...the other three did tho, didn't they????
*memory loss*

Eowyn of Ithilien 11-08-2001 04:25 AM

Merry...alright I'm going for Merry...lol I could be utterly wrong *shrugs*

Telchar 11-08-2001 07:31 AM

Nope - but the is very good thinking Eowyn - you are close, but you better forget the hobbit stuff

BtW: When did Eomer ever carrie a hobbit???

Gandalf because he never carried Gimli? Not that I remember when Aragorn carried Gimli either . . .

Telchar 11-08-2001 09:52 AM

Hmmm

Gimli rode on Shadowfax with Gandalf from Fangorn Forrest to Edoras - Aragorn was odd out because Gimli never was one of his passengers...

Turambar 11-08-2001 11:17 AM

So I had the right concept, but the wrong answer. Why don't you ask another, Telchar?

Telchar 11-09-2001 04:34 AM

Gandalf
Frodo
Eomer
Aragorn

Eowyn of Ithilien 11-09-2001 03:21 PM

Frodo journeyed on foot not on horseback!!!
Frodo was the only Ring Bearer

Elrian 11-10-2001 12:27 AM

Frodo never fought in any of the battles( Helms Deep, Pelannor, Morannon)

Telchar 11-12-2001 03:43 AM

Frodo did travel on horse several times - still none of you are correct ...

HINT: It has something to do with what they own/carrie!

Turambar 11-12-2001 05:40 AM

Did Eomer not carry a sword? That wd be strange if he didn't . . .

Telchar 11-12-2001 07:47 AM

Off course Eomer had a sword Named Gúthwinë But you are very, very, very. very, very close - actually you are so close that if you got any closer I would have given it to you - ......... its all about their swords!!!

Turambar 11-12-2001 10:21 AM

Was it that Guthwine was not a sword of Westernesse?

The Laurenendorian 11-12-2001 12:22 PM

That doesn't work, because Glamdring and Sting were forged in Gondolin. Perhaps Guthinwë was the only one not to have existed in the First Age?

Beregond 11-12-2001 07:24 PM

Legolas didn't carry a sword!

Telchar 11-13-2001 03:30 AM

1st of all - Beregond WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT

The Laurenendorian is right on the mark . Eomer didn't have a sword forged in the 1st age...

Beregond 11-21-2001 09:02 AM

It must have been late...

The Laurenendorian 11-22-2001 07:22 AM

- Thorin
- Merry
- Oin
- Boromir
- Bombur

Pippin 11-22-2001 07:30 AM

none of them had a son?

The Laurenendorian 11-22-2001 12:06 PM

Would work, except that then we don't have an odd one out.

Eowyn of Ithilien 11-22-2001 03:19 PM

Merry was the only one alive at the end of the LOTR????

Pippin 11-23-2001 05:00 AM

right, I though this was "one thing in common"
forgive me, I'm still in my tweens.
all of them had a brother except Bombur, who was a cousin to bifur and bofur?

Turin Turambar 11-23-2001 12:55 PM

What do you mean by sick? Like something nasty?

Turin Turambar 11-23-2001 12:57 PM

wrong forum! oops!

Lostgaeriel 11-23-2001 01:23 PM

OK, I'm just guessing. Is Boromir the odd man out?

Afterall, Boromir was present when Frodo wore the Ring, but Merry, Thorin, Bombur and Oin weren't. (They were, however, present when Bilbo wore the Ring and Boromir wasn't.)
NO! That doesn't work. Merry was at the Prancing Pony. YES! It does work. Merry wasn't in the common room - he went for a walk while Frodo was singing and dancing.

Alternative: Everyone listed except Boromir has been to Bag End.

The Laurenendorian 11-24-2001 04:26 AM

Not, I'm afraid, the answer for which I sought.

Guthláf could be added to the list.

Turambar 11-26-2001 12:12 PM

Bombur was not wounded or killed in battle?

The Laurenendorian 12-01-2001 04:21 AM

Pray enlighten me - in which battle was Oin wounded or killed?

Turambar 12-01-2001 05:49 PM

No one likes a smart-aleck, Lauren.

I thought maybe he was killed in Moria with Balin.
