Daegwenn 02-21-2002 09:57 AM

I am constantly thinking of stories to come up with...and I am very tempted to make a story about Tolkien-aholics. ^_^

As for the Tolkien day, sure! Count me in...and if we get a day off of work then really count me in. *thinks about telling her teachers and boss that she can't make it to work because its a religious holiday--Tolkien day* Yup. That would be fun.

Other symptoms for Tolkien addicts are:

You sit with your friends, that are equally as obsessed, and when someone walks by, debate if he/she looks like a hobbit, elf, man, dwarf, orc, troll, etc.

When someone asks you the date, you reply 'The first of Solmath...'

Saying goodbye, hello, or basically anything comes quicker to you in Quenya than in your native language.

You can call someone an idiot in more than two languages...one of those languages is Quenya.

You were the only one laughing in the theatre when Bilbo says, "I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve." Or you can quote along with him.

You are convinced that your brother must have been an orc in another life.

If you tilt your hand to the left somewhat, you're boss reminds you of a hobbit.

Your sketch books are crammed with doodles and drawings that have been inspired by Tolkien's books.

Hmm...I think I may think of others later.

Im going in and out of the Fever and im only 13! guess how bad Ill be when i hit highchool and collage

Enedhil 02-21-2002 04:31 PM

(self) "Hi, my name is ___________, and i'm addicted to Tolkien"

(group) *polite applause*

(TA group leader)"Now, ________ can you tell all of us here today, how/when/why you became addicted to Tolkien?"

heheheh

Gorothlammothiel 02-21-2002 04:36 PM

Very amusing Enedhil, may i ask if you are a diagnosed TA?

Vilya Elathelas of Rivendell 02-21-2002 06:21 PM

I'm a diagnosed TF. So're two or three of my friends. well, one of them's only an LF, but still...

Um...when, in conversation with one of your other tolkeinite friends, you accidentally call your science teacher "Mr. Elrond" because you just saw the movie the night before and his name is only missing the n anyway and only has a few added letters.

Said friend stares at you like you're smoking something unnatural.

Any chance you get, you say the following lines and variations on them:

"Our business is our own!"
"If you want him, come and claim him!"
"I will do it, though I do not know the way."

This last one IS a variation.

Your school is being renovated, and they're putting in new doors. So when a friend says they only need to put in one 'more door' you scream and cry "Mordor? Where? I'm afraid of MOrdor!!!"

The best English vocabulary words are ones that have to do with the sky or come from the latin words 'to rule', 'to find', 'to bring' and/or 'to bind.'

hope this qualifies. If this is baing sick, let it last forever!!

Daegwenn 02-21-2002 08:13 PM

*sniffles* I have been addicted to Tolkien since I was a kid...*sniffles* I-I just can't help myself...I-I get the shakes and-and I can't control myself...they say the first step to solving your problem is-is *sniffle* admitting you have one...But-but-but I don't have a problem...people say that I do but I don't!!*bursts into tears* It's not a problem!!

*blinks* Whoa...must be the cough medicine...

Hi! My name is ummm, Galadriel? No, no, that can't be right... Arwen? Umm, ok lets skip tha bit.
Any way, I found that I was a TA when I was nine. I came here only because I was told to by all the hobbits, no i mean people in my science class. I do NOT want to be cured. Please, please don't cure me!
I am an elf. Elves are not meant to be cured of their elvishness. No, i mean i'm a human, no thats not right, a hobbit? orc? argh no! not one of them...dwarf then?...ent?

Nazgûl Queen 02-22-2002 04:07 PM

Hi, I'm Morauko and I'm a Tolkien Addict....
I also do not want to be cured... without my Tolkien addiction I would not be able to remain the Nazgul Queen!

Can you help me NOT be cured?

Gayahithwen 02-22-2002 04:11 PM

I'm actually sure that my little brother is gollum.. or at least his descendant!! The only problem with that theory is that if my brother is a descendant of gollum, I have to be that as well! eek! Oh anyway, I does not want to be cured either.. and what happened to your red text, queen of the nazgûls? I'm curious.. ^_^

Tarlondeion Of Gondolin 02-22-2002 04:37 PM

I was writing an essay on some medival war, or something and I wrote Gondorian Knights rather than German knights and it was pretty embaressing when she asked me out loud in class what it meant.

Raefindel 02-22-2002 04:48 PM

The worst part of my addiction is that noone understands me except you people here! I mean, it's not like I speak in a foreign language, is it? Well... is it?

Gorothlammothiel 02-22-2002 05:01 PM

Not so much a foreign language Raefindel, it's just that those who aren't TA's, don't understand us. Take counsel in the fact that the Barrow-Downs are a refusge for those of us who are in the same position as you...
We are all alike in here......

Sindalómiel 02-23-2002 05:07 AM

In class on Wednesday we were answering questions on places in Australia and I wrote Caradhras instead of Karratha. Hope I don't try sending people to Caradhras once I actually get a tourism job...

Hey! My brother IS gollum! He is thin and kinda grey looking, he sits muttering to himself about his precious (gameboy) and has a kinda Gollumish appearence.

Daegwenn 02-23-2002 11:02 PM

My English teacher looks like Gollum and speaks like him but I think my english teacher has more hair...he stutters a lot too.

Gayahithwen 02-24-2002 11:19 AM

make some Tolkien-ish clothing, start wearing them and get out in the forest in the search for elves.. learn elfish and never speak any other language ever again.. ^_^ if you do this, and find the elves, please tell me, and I'll do thesame

Alchrivëwen 02-24-2002 11:40 AM

OMG I love you Gayahithwen but I will take your advice and maybe you can help me

Gayahithwen 02-24-2002 12:27 PM

me? I can't even walk in an elven way.. ^_^ but if there is anything I can do, I'll do it for you.. after all, I'm just a little novice/newcomer... but I might try to follow my own advice some day or another.. when I've learned enough elvish..

good to feel someone likes you

Anarya SilverBranch 02-25-2002 04:09 PM

Once I accidently called my teacher, Mr Bebeau, Mr Bilbo. And I constantly call my friend Fran, Frodo accidently.

More Tolkienite thingies:

--Fact--
There is a town in Manitoba, Canada called Gimli...^_^ Would you move there and claim the town was named after the dwarf??
(It is as cold as the lakes of hell--all two seasons: Winter and Not Quite Winter)

My own personal thoughts:

doesn't the one ring look like a wedding band...subliminal messages?? JUST JOKING!!!

The design for my Prom dress is based around what Galadriel wares in the movie...My friend is making it for me...^_^

Sincerely,
Daegwenn

Starbreeze 02-26-2002 01:32 PM

I love my Tolien Fever! My ears have really strated going pointy!

Airetauriel 02-27-2002 08:27 AM

You know you're addicted when you sleepily pull any item of clothing from your wardrobe, pull it on and plod downstairs, to be greeted by...

You look very elvish today....

Yup, I've done that one. Doesn't help, possibly, that I have long, long, wavy hair, that is worn almost always with some kind of plait....a fashion choice, you understand.

You come downstairs, looking elvish, have lembas for breakfast, tick off the day on your Tolkien calendar, check these forums for any news, surf awhile looking for Tolkien related sites. Feed the cat called Gandalf and pass the field with horses on your way out, who you have nicknamed Snowmane and Shadowfax. Get to work, look nervously at your boss who wears a plain gold ring, bite back a Mae Govannon in greeting....

In the evening, a trip to the local pub....The Prancing Pony. Get called 'Lord of the Treks' by all your friends, tell them all they're a load of Uruk-hai, go home and seek solace curled up with Gandalf on the sofa, reading Tolkien, in the belief that noone understands you....

Ah Elbereth! Gilthoniel! Now I understand. This is the ending.

Airetauriel

Gayahithwen 02-27-2002 11:41 AM

You actually did all that? LoL
I'm not obsessed at all, compared with you.. I'm just giving all my teachers elven names.. Thats not really obsessed.. If I actually put up my hand during a lesson, and ask a question in quenya, refering to the teacher with his elven name, then I'd be really obsessed.. ^_^

dragongirlG 02-27-2002 04:00 PM

may have been posted already...

Whenever you see an eagle in the sky, you yell, "It's Gwaihir! He's going to rescue Gandalf from Zirikzigil!"

Whenever you see two or three eagles in the sky, you point and yell, "It's Gwaihir with his brother Landroval and Menuseld the Swift! They're going to rescue Frodo and Sam! Take me with you, Gwaihir, I want to see Mount Doom!"

Gelmir 08-02-2004 03:01 PM

I've got Tolkein Fever!

Why would you go all to the trouble of getting Gwaihir and going to mount doom, I have been to mount doom, it hurts, espcially when lava comes from the top, you could lose your arms, beleive me it's painful, a couple of orcs took mine off and hit me with them, ouch! :( but now I'm dead, I grew my head, arms, legs, hands and other limbs, it's sooooooooooooooooooo good to be dead, wouldn't you say? Any hoo, come off looking like a complete lunartick, and get to the real story...

Oh dear I'm getting Tolkein Fever, ah well!

Encaitare 08-02-2004 09:00 PM

Wow, this was an old thread! But I am going to put my answers anyway.

You know you have Tolkien fever when....

-you are taking notes on Spanish history and write "Catherine of Aragorn" instead of "Aragon"

-you write "Elven" instead of "Eleven"

-you write perfect Tengwar... everywhere. On your hand, your crappy pocketbook, your desk, your notes... etc.

-you answer your cell phone, "Hello, you've reached the Prancing Pony, how may I help you?"

-whenever someone says the word "stairs" you say "up, up, up, up, up the stairs!" and other things like that.

-you make a shirt with the White Tree of Gondor on it, which on the back says "Seven stars and seven stones and one white tree"

-you write notes to friends in Tengwar so other people can't read them; you write the whole of Galadriel's Lament on your arm in Tengwar out of sheer boredom

-you say that people who curse are "orc-minded" because it says so in the appendices... I guess that makes me orc-minded too... wah.

That's all I can think of now that apply to me!

Morsul the Dark 08-02-2004 09:02 PM

I was recently playing some board game and I was in the guys rear arc so my little tank or whatever got a attack bonus and i said "HA my tanks in your rear orc!..no wait orc...damn it arc your rear arc!"

And at work one guy had a good sized beard and instead of saying have a nice day it slipped I said "may your beard never witter" also I hum the movie soundtrack

But as Encaitare said she writes tengwar I can't however I had the anglo-saxon alphabet down and I'm working on tengwar

Isowen 08-03-2004 11:32 AM

What a coincidence!

I do that a lot! I had a science exam and I think the question was something to do with making wine and fermenting etc. I was supposed to write the word "wine" and put "brandy" in front of it to make "brandywine"! My science teacher, who has apparently never read lotr, was shocked and thought I was an alcoholic and announced to the rest of the class that I was writing about brandy and wine. when i explained what had happened, he let me redo the answer and told me I had Tolkien fever! So when i saw the title of this thread, I just had to read it!
