sword name, huh? I do prefer to use the bow, but I guess I can bring a short blade with me...let's call it Bloodsinger :-) And may it slice many orcs!

Glenethor 02-13-2002 04:26 AM

Melpaurian or 'Bush-Whacker.'

Actually i will name my elvish blade dcrow the Merciless...wat do you think about that name?

"What have i got in my pocket?"

Aralaithiel 02-13-2002 03:57 PM

Well, since I changed my fan fiction character's hair to flaming red, I renamed my sword Fireblade, Durahaiel in elvish!
Keep checking the fan fiction site for "The Tale of Aralaithiel" by me! I can't wait to see myself published!

Melly 02-14-2002 02:41 AM

silversun don't ask.It sounds rather like a brand name, doesn't it?

Elendil of Donareo 02-14-2002 06:14 AM

Smain the flesh slayer

Gayahithwen 02-14-2002 12:38 PM

Ok, since I'm a very split personality I have three different characters to give swords to.. ^_^ the first (which I like the best) is my peaceloving elf that'll go seek the valar and so on.. Her sword would be named Dûrore which means I'm a peacelover, but if any orcs come near me, I'll have to slay them..
My second character would be someone really mean, like an orc.. His/her sword would be named Melranko or Dûrbtak the Devastor, which both means Hate of all living beings..
My third character is just neutral, but a little bit easy on the sword when it comes to killing people, so her/his sword would be named Ainalindë or Bôrwûsh the Looter, which both means Neutral blade of death..
Well, if nothing else, that at least showed my split personality.. Of course, I could call my sword something like "Greenleaf the heartstealer".. if you think about it, you'll understand it..

Armadoin 10-01-2002 02:35 PM

I want to name mine the equivalent of mighty warrior or orc slayer... actually the ****s sounds even better; yeah, the ****s

Meela 10-01-2002 03:02 PM

I'd like to name my sword something Elvish, perhaps meaning 'Blood Warrior' or 'Slayer of Orcs', although a Numenorean name would be grand.
Sword of the Sea: in the style of Excalibur of the lake, to give it a 'legendary' feel.

Demloth of Dol Amroth 10-01-2002 08:39 PM

SILMEGILAINAVAL!!! muhahahahhaa! cumbersome name, but it fits the sword it would be given-BIG-HONKING TWO-HANDED SWORD!! (not claymore-theys got a goofy hilt). it means "shining sword of HOLY MIGHT" (it's a paladin thing). actually, val means power while beleg means might, but Silmegilainabeleg had more of a "clunk" than a ring to it-so i chose val on the assumption might and power were interchangeable. hee hee hee-been waiting for a thread like this. Aralaithiel, YOU ROCK! I want a flaming sword too! Silmegilainaval would be a sword you'd have to take weightlifting your entire school career to lift, though-unless it was made of titanium. to give you an idea, the handle would be a foot and 3 inches long...need i say more. it'd be more of a "scare the living crud out of your opponents" sword than an actual fighting sword-though not to say i wouldn't try to use it. the pommel jewel would have to glow when orcs are near, and the whole blade would glow when trolls are near. then you know what you're getting into!

Armadoin-go with "orc slayer"

I love Courage the Cowardly Dog!
"Bla-bla-bla!"
"Where's my peanuts?"
"BUY FLAN-TASY FLAN!"

Sharp pointy thing!

Glorfinniel the Lost 10-01-2002 11:07 PM

I'd probaly name mine "Amarthrist" roughly meaning Cleaver/Sword of Doom.

Joy 10-01-2002 11:25 PM

Demloth, may I use your idea for the Sword as I am creating one for my fan-fic. The name of the sword is Kalasil - Sword of Bright Light.

I also am playing an evil character in a RPG, there my sword is named Mormagil - The Black Sword. When I chose the name, I didn't know that was one of Turin's name, well, I did but didn't notice.

Aramacil 10-02-2002 08:00 AM

I would probably name my sword somthing very unoriginal, but easy to remember like "sword" or "Long object to kill my enemies with".

Evisse the Blue 10-02-2002 08:25 AM

hmm, hard to beat all these cool names.

If I had a sword (not very likely) I'd name her (it will be a she, and glow Blue when orcs are near - like me!) :
Evil Sharp Pointed Blue Thingy to Stab Bad Guys and Such With (Evie for short). Bwahahahahaha!

Armadoin 10-02-2002 09:44 AM

Thanks Demloth; I guess my other name wasn't very appropriate

NazgulNumberTen 10-02-2002 01:40 PM

NewbieCleaver: Celebdur
Harry Potter Bane: Tangond

Donisile Of Mirkwood 10-02-2002 02:12 PM

Afearne Goblin Cleaver, i hate Goblins! Damn you Melkor!!!!

Demloth of Dol Amroth 10-02-2002 03:17 PM

joy, i would be honored if you would use my sword name-i thought it was a little awkward and that people would think it was silly. and armadoin-good choice. there are better ways to get the "point"(pardon the really bad joke) across than "colorful adjectives." donisile-it's been done

lathspell 10-04-2002 10:41 AM

Johnny Bravo

Loonie 10-04-2002 11:06 AM

Hello Everyone.

Personally, I wield axes. But a secondary sword in my sheath would bear the name 'Light Storm' in Common Speech. I'm not proficient in elvish, but the contrast of Light and Storm I'm sure would make an interesting word. Someone get back to me on this?

TolkienGurl 10-04-2002 01:17 PM

'Toothpick of Doom' or 'Large Wooden Spoon of Death' (Raven joke )

Come see the Steel Ravens - Medieval/Renaissance Swordfighting Troupe of Mid-Michigan!

Salix 10-04-2002 05:38 PM

I would name mine "Unquenchable Flame", or whatever that was in Elvish.

Reyna Evergreen 10-06-2002 12:44 PM

Now, something like "The Sword That Will Eventually Bring You To DOOM!" is too long, but I like that anyway...

Otherwise (and seriously) I named my sword Aure, meaning Light or Day. Kinda makes me think that the thing will bring back the Day (as mentionned in my sig) to the good guys or bring Light (which can be linked with hope) to the good guys in dire need.

Eruialiwen 10-06-2002 07:10 PM

I'd probably name my sword something Elven, but I'm too lazy at the moment to go to the name generator thingie to translate Shadowless, which is what its name would be in the Common Language. It would be a pure sword of white steel But I might change the name...not sure yet Or Shadowlight, or...*goes off to mumble and think*

Eruialiwen 10-06-2002 07:18 PM

OK...Vebeleth is the Elvish translation of Shadowless

Now I suppose I'd go with Vebeleth, although it doesn't sound as cool as the Common Language version

Artanis 10-06-2002 07:32 PM

I would name mine Ancguar, meaning Fang of the Wolf, because I am really into wolves... Also, I would like to join Galadreil's Gaurds... I'm no Elf, just a Ranger... Tell you what, I will go for the heads while the Hobbits distract them... FUN!*whacks self to control the demons within*

avarrogion 10-13-2002 03:26 AM

1st and foremost it feels so good to be back in the downs after i think 5-6 months of adventure outside the downs...it juz feels so good.
Name my sword ehh...let me think well as a renegade elve i would carry a double sided katana. I would call her "Thirst" as she will always thirst for blood of mortals.

Kettle of fish 10-13-2002 07:27 AM

The Lawnmower

Or

Elvis.

Lady_Espel 10-13-2002 08:56 AM

Mine would have Gucci engraved in it, so it would be called Gucci.

Izzy 10-13-2002 02:50 PM

I'd probly name mine Nexis the destroyer

I like that name

platinumclaw 10-13-2002 04:49 PM

I would name my sword Glass-Wing, if I could bear such a weapon in my talons.

Kettle of Fish, what an interesting and delightful name. Keep it up.

Auriel Haevasawen 10-15-2002 03:49 PM

OK, my broadsword is called 'Silencia' despite the fact my friends say that makes it sound like a lady-shave.
My gallus is called 'Ragnarok' after the Saxon/Viking end of the world.
Neither of these items have ever been used to damage orcs but I can dream as they hang on my wall.

Izzy 10-15-2002 08:55 PM

if i had a short sword..hmm.. I'd name it karlion.
I just kina made that up 2 seconds ago.

Raefindel 10-16-2002 03:03 PM

I don't know about My sword, but I think Legolas should name his pair of knives "shoulder blades" in Elven. Ha ha ha!

Well, let's see, I think I would name mine "big stick" in Elven, and then I could walk softly and carry a "big stick".
