Resurrection!

a /pattern/of/colours,/of/morn/and/eve,/

Hmmm. I don't recognize this... it sounds very pretty, though, even in a half-constructed state! :D Lay of Leithian, maybe?

Firefoot 03-30-2005 07:24 PM

Lay of Leithian, 'tis!

"My idle fingers would spin and weave
a pattern of colours, of morn and eve,
of sun and moon and changing light,
amid the beech-leaves waving bright."

Luthien to Dairon, when Thingol trapped her in Hirilorn.

Tuor of Gondolin 04-01-2005 11:45 AM

That's it. Well done.
Firefoot's turn.

Encaitare 04-12-2005 01:17 PM

*bumpety bump*

Firefoot 04-12-2005 02:49 PM

Oh, right.

"T-e/-u-/m-s-/h-v-/r-n/-n-o-/a/-l-u-/w-i-e-/w-'v-/b-e-/u-d-r/-h-s-/t-e-s,/-n-/n-w/-h-/h-s/-u-/o-t/-g-i-;/o-/e-s-/s-e/-a-/c-i-b-d/-i-h/-n-u-h/-o/-o-k/-o-n/-h-o-g-/s-m-/o-e-i-g."

Quote:

"The sun must have run into a cloud while we've been under these trees, and now she has run out again or else she has climbed high enough to look down throught some opening."
Pippin said it to Merry in Fangorn Forest.

Firefoot 04-13-2005 05:43 AM

Yep. Your go.

Kath 04-13-2005 09:40 AM

Ok:

Quote:

"V-r-/ w-l-!/ W-'l-/ s-e!/ -o/ -r-a-u-e/ -i-l/ -o-e/ -a-k/ -h-o-g-/ M-r-w-o-/ w-t-o-t/ -y/ -a-i-g/ -o-e-h-n-/ t-/ s-y/ -n/ -h-/ m-t-e-./ B-t/ -/ e-p-c-/ t-e-/ w-l-/ a-l/ -o-e/ -o/ -/ b-d/ -n-,/ a-d/ -e-v-/ t-e-/ -i-h-!"

Encaitare 04-13-2005 01:39 PM

and Enca ambles about, filling in the letters of immediately recognizable words...

"Very/ well!/ We'll/ see!/ -o/ -r-a-u-e/ -i-l/ -o-e/ -a-k/ through/ Mirkwood/ without/ my/ -a-ing/ -o-e-h-n-/ t-/ s-y/ -n/ -h-/ m-t-e-./ But/ I/ expect/ they/ will/ all/ -o-e/ -o/ -/ b-d/ -n-,/ and/ -e-v-/ t-e-/ -i-h-!"

Kath 04-13-2005 01:59 PM

All correct so far Encaitare.

Firefoot 04-13-2005 03:42 PM

"Very/ well!/ We'll/ see!/ No/ treasure/ will/ come/ back/ through/ Mirkwood/ without/ my/ having/ something/ to/ say/ in/ the/ matter./ But/ I/ expect/ they/ will/ all/ come/ to/ a/ bad/ end,/ and/ serve/ them/ right!"

The Elven-king (Thranduil) concerning the dwarves after they escaped.

Kath 04-14-2005 04:52 AM

Yep. Your turn.

Firefoot 05-24-2005 04:52 PM

"T-e/-a-e-/o-/-l-/t-e/-t-r-,/a-d/-f/-l-/l-v-n-/t-i-g-,/a-d/-h-/w-o-e/-i-t-r-/o-/M-d-l-(-)e-r-h/-n-/O-e-(-)h-a-e-/a-d/-f/-h-/S-n-e-i-g/-e-s," (...) "-f/-o-r-e!/-h-t/-e-s?"

luthien-elvenprincess 10-02-2005 09:51 AM

Bumping up:

"The names of all the stars, and of all living things, and the whole history of Middle-earth and Over-heaven and ofthe Sundering Seas," laughed Pippen, "Of course! What less!"

Firefoot 10-02-2005 09:53 AM

Yep!

luthien-elvenprincess 10-02-2005 10:13 AM

The next one then...

"F-r/ -e/ -a-/ a/ -e-t-e/ -e-r-/ a-d/ -/ g-e-t/ -i-g/ -n-/ k-p-/ h-s/ -a-h-;/ a-d/ -e/ -o-e/ -u-/ o-/ t-e/ -h-d-w-/ t-/ -/ l-s-/ f-i-/ m-r-i-g."/

Glirdan 10-02-2005 09:10 PM

My first try at this

Just thought I'd give this a shot.

Quote:

"For/ he/ has/ a/ -e-t-e/ -e-r-/ and/ -/ g-e-t/ -i-g/ and/ kept/ has/ -a-h-;/ and/ he/ -o-e/ -u-/ on/ the/ -h-d-w-/ to/ a/ less/ f-i-/ m-r-i-g."/

Eorl of Rohan 10-03-2005 12:53 AM

'For he was a gentle heart and a great King and kept his oaths; and he rose out of the shadows to a last fair morning.'

Took one-and-a-half hour to figure out this one, especially as the 'morning' part moved me to ransack Rohan battle songs. :D Anyway, Aragorn to Merry, trying to dissuade him from never smoking again. What a friend. 0_0 Bet my dad wants a friend like Aragorn.

luthien-elvenprincess 10-03-2005 05:37 AM

You are right E of R!
Also a great first attempt, Glirdan!

Eorl of Rohan 10-03-2005 10:50 PM

...w+e+e +h+ n+l+o+ s+e+ t+e +o+m+i+e+s +n+ s+e+l+n+ d+e+ t+e+r +h+i+ s+i+s...

Here it is! PS. If my memory failed me here, and I got a part wrong, please don't PM me or I'll die with shame and then there will be no one to say 'Yes, you are correct! Continue' and this thread will die. :D

Glirdan 10-04-2005 04:02 PM

Let's give it another shot.

Quote:

...where the noldor s+e+ the +o+m+i+e+s and s+e+l+n+ d+e+ t+e+r thats s+i+s...

Tuor in Gondolin 10-05-2005 09:53 AM

How about:

...where the noldor slew the +o+m+i+e+s and stealing d+e+ their white ships...

Eorl of Rohan 10-05-2005 07:04 PM

You got that much, and you still don't know? Gawd, no one reads Silmarillion these days. :p Just joking, though. But I'm sure the next person who comes onto this thread would know.

Glirdan 10-05-2005 09:02 PM

How about

Quote:

...where the noldor slew the +o+m+i+e+s and stealing deer their white ships...
There's still one word, but it's stumping me, and I looked in the Sil, not thouroughly mind you, but I looked in the chapter "Of The Flight Of The Noldor" and the only other chapter I can think that quote would be in would be when Galadriel is talking to Melian of the exile of the Noldor. And I'm to lazy to go look. Besdies, have to go to bed. School in the morning. :(

Eorl of Rohan 10-06-2005 07:24 PM

Mmf. Critism accepted. -smarts- Or it's just me who loves this quote and no one is going to get it anyway. Anyway, as I deleted the post, here is the hint again: In Silm, a line in poetry, there's precious few poetry in Silms so it would not be hard to find.

Eorl of Rohan 10-10-2005 05:30 AM

No one posted in the space of a week, so I'll try a bump.

luthien-elvenprincess 10-12-2005 02:53 AM

Alright...I finally took the time to look it up...(rising mightly to the task  )

From the Lay of Leithian:
Then the gloom gathered; darkness growing in Valinor, the red blood flowing beside the Sea, where the Nolder slew the Foamriders, and stealing drew their white ships with their white sails from lamplit havens.

Eorl of Rohan 10-12-2005 03:31 AM

SOMEONE AT LAST! +hugs and kisses the person that she had not even taken time to actually read the name+

Your turn.

luthien-elvenprincess 10-12-2005 02:21 PM

whoa...who just kissed me??? :D \

scouring of the shire chapter I believe, but without the book It will be har dot complete it

the phantom 10-13-2005 12:10 PM

But our back is to legends and we are coming home. I suppose this is the first taste of it.

I'm fairly certain the quote is from Gandalf in The Hobbit.

luthien-elvenprincess 10-13-2005 06:35 PM

Close enough, Phantom...actually Bilbo said it to Gandalf in the Hobbit. Your go :)

the phantom 10-15-2005 05:57 PM

Bilbo to Gandalf, eh? I was thinking it was Gandalf to Bilbo. Rats.

Here's mine-

Hm. More to build on. Two words... Why do I think 'arsenal'? Surely that is not the world. And for the second word, I can't shake off the word 'fraught' although that is obviously not the answer.
