I actually had Faramir in mind when I wrote it but after I went to bed last night I realized it could be either one, so your turn, Bill.
Thanks, Aratlithiel. I was hoping to get it right, because I had a question in mind.
I am grey, my name is grey, and grey sits astride me: who am I? Part of this is tricky, so don't be fooled! |
Shadowfax!
Yay! You got it! Shadowfax is said to be white, but white horses are known as grey. Shadows are grey, and Gandalf the grey(at first, anyway). Your go!
You gonna ask a question?
Don't be so Hasty Bill, he/she has a bit of time before he/she has to respond. Just double-check the Rules of the Quiz Room
For many ages they shall wait
Their task to guard and keep the gate To pleasure and to joy It is their life, it is their fate Who is it??? |
I can't recall the name, but is it the people that Isildur banished and Aragorn set free whilst on the Paths of the Dead?
Just a guess: The Silent Watchers
Silent Watchers was my first guess to but I can't reconcile them with pleasure and joy.
The Dunedain? WAITing for the return of the king GUARDing the Shire ????????????????????? |
Mandos & Vairë ?
all good guesses, but think of a more metephorical gate. (as in not a gate at all)
Círdan?
Pallando BC got it!
Ok, Beware of the EASY riddle...
In a Land of Stone we are set to gaurd, a Mighty Prince whose will is hard. A specified task, we are set, to make sure he lives long yet! Who/What am I descibing? |
The Guard of Faramir, Prince of Ithilien (in Gondor - land of stone)
Yes, The White Company it is. Your Turn.
In Elder days my life was set,
In bliss and splendour I did dwell, But shadow came and overswept, And in that land my tower fell. The tree did fail, My daughter fled, my heir upon the trail, but they were caught and were then trapped, but saved by might of mail. For then a hero fey and strong, Strode forth toward his doom, For he saved the fleeing throng and smote down all evil, But fell toward his tomb. My gardens are now barren, My fields are now lost, and now they live beneath the sea, and there to ever dwell you'll see, the ruin of my ost. would the hero be huan and the person not quite sure yet but im thinking
Nope, not Huan.
Thingol
Nope, Thingol is incorrect as well.
Fingolfin(Galadriel´s father, I mean- I always mix up those "Fin-s"...)
or Elendil/Isildur |
It's Turgon is it not? The hero that falls towards his tomb is Glorfindel, although his body was eventually picked up by the Eagles. Turgon died when his tower (upon which he stood) fell.
Gondolin along with the rest of Beleriand sunk. [ January 22, 2003: Message edited by: Ultimatejoe ] [ January 22, 2003: Message edited by: Ultimatejoe ] |
UJoe got it, I was very pleased that it took so long. Gooo ME!!
Gonna make a shot at poetry... cover your ears and wash your eyes:
I awoke with stars and water, and I passed in the night. Strong and fell I stood, but overmatched in might. My line is never forgtten, for valour and for plight. By both hair and heart, their fires burn most bright. What's my name? |
Finwë?
I knew it was easy, but I didn't think it was THAT easy.
WOW! There was no way I thought I was correct. That was just the first elven-lord I thought of. That was strange.
Ack, and now on to the prose. Father of Kings I stood tall I stand against evil which causes my fall A might supreme I fought against To my death from a lack of sense Wow, so horrible. What I get for attempting to rhyme. But anyway, there you go. |
Is it Elendil?
Nope, its not.
That'd be Fingolfin.
Finwe, maybe its to do with his fall in front of Formenos.
I doubt he'd repeat the last riddle.

Hello?
Sorry, was having computer problems. You are absolutely correct!
Huzzah! Lets see if I can craft a harder one..
I've rode many miles, for the sake of kin; And many more I'll travel, With tidings and with twins. My path is ever dark, but with you I do not care; My fate will come with daylight, and with dawn comes the heir. Who am I? |
Halbarad?
Damn, yeah.
Haha, was just a hunch, and then I looked it up.
Watch the lang. btw, Admins don't like that. A small one I am and yet only one way A friend of Sams I helped some get away I led the rebels till nearly the end of my day Imprisoned I was But with help I got away I give up at rhyming I swear... |
