Well somone may go into a game committed - but particularly in the senior games posting a lot has been suspicious - I got myself (albeit justifiably) lynched on day one for that!!! In other games there is a limit if you are in incompatible timezones ... one day I would love to play a game when I can properly interact with Firefoot. Even when I was a wolf in another quiet game it was maddening that one of the people who was contributing most was logging off as I logged on :( . Of course being in a closer timezone to Nogrod was very nearly my undoing ... so I'll be careful what I wish for lest it comes true!

I’m starting recruitment now for WWJ VIII ~ Things That Go “Quack” In The Night

I’ve set up the thread, with an introductory post to give you an idea of the concept. And, um, the kind of narration you can expect from me. :p

This game will have:

3 Wereducks
1 Owl (Seer)
1 Hawk (Hunter)

And, if there are enough players, possibly a Nightingale (Protector), Goose (Cobbler) or even something else. I am not expecting a high turn out though, so if I get 12 players I’ll be happy. I would toy with the idea of Lovebirds but that would need more than 15 players, so maybe sometime in the future. For now, I really only have the Owl and Hawk as definite gifteds.

I have some tricks up my sleeve, so this should prove to be a very interesting game.

A few things up front: I will not reveal the Owl/Seer until the end of the game. That means, if/when s/he dies, s/he will only be listed as a Villager. S/he is welcome to declare Owlness in the game, but it will not be verified by me. The Hawk/Hunter of course with be revealed by virtue of taking someone else down. The Owl will not be told who the Hawk/Hunter is, just that s/he is innocent. The same would go for any other possible gifteds. All will be revealed only at the end of the game.

As for start time, I suspect it will take a while to get enough players, so I’m setting my sights on after Farael’s game is completed (unless I’m surprised by a quick sign up) but before LMP’s game. I’d like to fit this in between the next two senior games. Especially since I’ve already signed up for LMP’s game.

When signing up, please name a species and an occupation/characterization for yourself. This village is anachronistic and of mixed-species. Hobbits, men, elves, dwarves, even “reformed orcs” are welcome, as are more modern occupations, if you so wish. Basically, it’s a going to be a crazy mixed up mumbled up shook up world (except for my Lola, Lo-lo-lo-lo-looolaaaaa *cough* sorry) and the characterizations should reflect that.

I’m really excited about this, and thoughts of how to play with the narration have been percolating for a few weeks, so I hope it’s infectious. ;)

Anguirel 04-10-2006 03:11 AM

Let me be the first to leap to your side, milady Took. Can I suggest as many special roles with amusing bird names as possible?

Mythomaniac as Lesser Spotted Warbler...?

As for me, I will be...a bird-catcher. Papagena papagena!

Mithalwen 04-10-2006 06:01 AM

Can I put myself down as a maybe dependent on wbhen it actually happens? The idea of playing with Ang in Zauberflotian mode is delightful .... but Ang ...*looks stern* are you up to date with work and revision ;)

The Saucepan Man 04-10-2006 07:11 AM

If it's not starting until some time next week at the earliest, you can count me in.

Occupation to follow ...

mormegil 04-10-2006 07:20 AM

What day do you actually plan on starting? If it is after the 19th I can play otherwise I will be travelling soon and will be unable to do participate.

Diamond18 04-10-2006 10:12 AM

I don't plan on it starting before the 19th, Morm. I shall be devoting most of my attention to the Senior game this week and by mid-week next week I'll see where things stand, both there and in sign up here.

What kind of bird-catcher will you be, Ang? (Elf, man, etc.)

Valier 04-10-2006 10:24 AM

I may be able to play by then, I have my last exam on the 22nd...I know it's a weekend...*sigh* But if it starts on the 23rd I can play....Put me down as a maybe Diamond and I will let you know.:)

Nogrod 04-10-2006 10:35 AM

If this game is starting next week, you might count me in too, with a series of question marks added. It all depends on the way Farael's game will be played out. After dropping after the first night in my last game, I'm kind of waiting for some real playing, not just watching from aside. :)

I just love your idea of a little bit mixed-up village with all the absurdities involved... I could be a dwarf, and a personal fitness instructor.

The Saucepan Man 04-10-2006 10:38 AM

I shall resist the temptation to be a pheasant plucker ( ) and opt instead to be a "reformed" orc whose grotesque features and limited brain capacity are admirably suited to his chosen occupation as a scarecrow.

Coward - I was thinking of being a sagger-maker's bottom knocker
Here be other possibilities :D

mormegil 04-10-2006 11:12 AM

I would like to be an Elf and from that wonderful list that Mith provided I will be and Idleman. Both pompous and lazy.

Diamond18 04-10-2006 11:31 AM

Splendid, splendid, I must spend some more time on that website later, Mith. :D

So what we have now:

Anguriel the Baritone Bird Catcher
(?) Mithalwen the Elven Saggar Maker's Bottom Knocker
Saucepan Man the Orcish Scarecrow
Mormegil the Elven Idleman
(?) Valier
(?) Nogrod the Dwarven Personal Fitness Instructor
(?) Kath
(?) Cailín
Roa Aoife the Batwoman
(?) Nilpaurion Felagund the Elven S-ranked Ninja

I'll set a tenative start date for the 23rd of April

Kath 04-10-2006 03:20 PM

Pop me in as a maybe would you Diamond? I'm more likely than not to sign up for real but I do need to check some dates first.

Cailín 04-10-2006 03:26 PM

The 23rd would be perfect for me. Could you put me on the maybe list as well, or are you tired of all the question marks? :o

I see that you are trying to keep up with the total games played but I still have you by one and will need to continue if I want to keep that edge ;)

Roa_Aoife 04-10-2006 03:40 PM

I'm going to stick with human, and my occupation (this was seriously on the list) is a Batman. Well, Batwoman... :D

Kath 04-10-2006 03:44 PM

Yes I know! Dratted man  I'm going to get further behind due to modding as well!

Diamond18 04-10-2006 06:02 PM

I like question marks. They're pretty. :D

Quote:

Batman: Army officers' servant - still current
Interesting... not what I expected though. ;)

I've updated the list.

Anguirel 04-11-2006 01:22 AM

Oh and incidentally, I will be a baritone bird-catcher... that's enough of a race as opera roles go...

Mithalwen 04-11-2006 06:39 AM

Unfortunately the voice type has a higher than usual likelihood of being killed.

My father had a batman when he was in the army - ok that was a long time ago but ... well I guess it made us laugh when we were little ...

I think unless someone is a Sagger-Maker there will be noone to knock bottoms for so I shall have a side line retraining a Feng shui and aura consultant. :p

Diamond18 04-11-2006 12:58 PM

Mithalwen the Saggar Maker's Bottom Knocker (with a side line retraining a Feng shui and aura consultant.)

Quite possibly the longest character description ever.... :p Maybe just "Mithalwen the Feng Shui Saggar Maker's Bottom Knocker"?

And no race either ;) better be elf that is shorter and I go with sagger ......not saggar but I will check... b and the SMBK was a bit of a joke ... so do ditch it if it is a nuisance :D

Diamond18 04-11-2006 01:15 PM

I checked and it was Saggar. I'm anal that way. :D

I figured it was a joke but you don't dangle a treat like that before my moderatorly eyes and get to take it back. ;) I hate to say so, as it seems rather like hoping you lose, but I look forward to your death. :p

Let's see, Mithalwen the Elven Saggar-Maker's Bottom Knocker. Works for me.

If there's no Saggar-Maker you can just be unemployed.

littlemanpoet 04-11-2006 08:20 PM

I'll be watching if not playing. Just in case anybody wants to know, I won't be starting Dueling Wizards until Diamond's game wraps up.

Nilpaurion Felagund 04-12-2006 12:31 AM

Hmmm . . .

I'm a maybe.

No, you're an S-ranked ninja.

No, you're a loser.

*sigh*

Diamond18 04-12-2006 01:19 AM

For purposes of my death scene, I am going to be Diamond Took, the Halfling Poet. In case that matters to anyone when choosing your professions.

Edit: Also, when choosing a race, please pay attention to what others have picked because I'd like all the races to be represented somewhat equally. For reference, right now we have 3 elves, 2 humans (I'm counting Ang as a human) 1 Orc, and 1 Dwarf.

Kath 04-12-2006 05:22 AM

Ok I'm almost definitely a yes and I will give you a confirmation on that when I get back.

And there was me thinking that strange auras would be a useful cover for random accusations

while it is the most wondrous occupation, I think that you may have doomed me to live ... having had deaths for yourself and Nogrod go to waste in Midsommer Mawlin. Even the chance to use Discworld Death and Marvin wasn't quite enough to compensate for the loss of Nogs, Valkyries and a good bonfire.......

Glirdan 04-15-2006 05:52 AM

This looks like it might be fun. But I think I should take a break before joining Lmp's game...Put me as a maybe Diamond.

Quick question, after Lmp, who's to be the next mod?? Have we got a mod list that far?

Lote22 04-15-2006 11:44 AM

I'd like to sign up please! It's my first game but Wilwa explained it to me and I think it sounds like a lot of fun!

For an occupation I'd like to be: an igloo maker. :D

Diamond18 04-15-2006 11:52 AM

Glirdan, Kath is after LMP.

Lote, welcome to the game -- an igloo maker sounds funny. :D Would you like to be human, hobbit, elf, dwarf, or orc (or something else)?

Roa_Aoife 04-15-2006 11:53 AM

Wait, is LMP's game in WW or WWJ? I was under the impression it was WW.

Diamond18 04-15-2006 11:55 AM

It's senior. He wants 30 players.

Mithalwen 04-15-2006 11:58 AM

LMP is WW.

Noggin and Lommy's Penguin-fest and Samwise Gamgee's game follow D18 but not necessarily in that order in WWJ I think

Glirdan 04-15-2006 12:18 PM

Ok, well, I'm signing up for modding for after Samwise's game. I have a special idea in mind that will involve all previous mods from the WWJ thread (that's including Lmp because his is going to be a giant game which will probably put the junior game on hold as well as well as [possibly] some of the co mods).

Also, I guess I'll sign up Diamond. As for occupation...hmmm....can I be the local Tree hearder and (if you haven't guessed it) I'll be an Ent!! :D

Lote22 04-15-2006 12:26 PM

I would like to be an elf...and by the way I'm female :D

Lalaith 04-15-2006 02:27 PM

Ok Diamond, sign me up.
I was especially lured by the whimsical occupations theme...I shall be a chubb fuddler. For further information, please see Nancy Mitford's seminal Pursuit of Love. I'd better be a hobbit, I suppose.
