A mystery called Thinlómien

I don't know wether he/she really is he/she, you know, but this kind of ruins the age issue ;)

Karl Urban in a kilt? Didn't Saucepan Man say that on page 5? :p

As for the mystery of Inktomi Slurp Spider, I guess you guys just aren't that interested, huh? Either that or you can't read between the lines...

*gasp*

SPM and I thinking the same thing? That won't do at all. :p

(I looked and it wasn't page five- I found it on page three ;) )

ElementFire 03-02-2005 02:28 PM

A KILT???? What kind of sick puppy would think of Karl in a kilt? Is he even Scottish?

the phantom 03-02-2005 02:34 PM

The member in question (Eomer of the Rohirrim) is Scottish. That is where the kilt idea comes from.

ElementFire 03-02-2005 02:37 PM

Aaah, thanks, Phantom

...Does this mean you're the Wighted troublemaker? Ack! Now I have an image of Karl Urban's face on a kilt-wearing spider.

New Image of the Scotsman

Eomer of the Rohirrim is a devilishly handsome young man of tall and lanky stature. His mesmerising blue eyes, longish dark hair and inviting smile have caused an alarmingly huge fan following. He has a vivid imagination and an outlandish conception of life, the universe and everything.

He does get slightly embarrassed when something he posts upsets the mods.

However, he also likes to point out when other people's guesses were way off.

Am I anywhere close, Eomer? :p

Fea

PS: You're still wearing a kilt.

Nuranar 03-02-2005 04:10 PM

I see the phantom as a moderately-tall (6') 20-something, tow-headed, with roguish hazel eyes and freckles. He's rather inconspicuous, actually, but his pent-up mischief simmers just below the surface. He has a turn for witty comments and finds a lot of entertainment in maintaining a pseudo-preternatural mystique.

Boromir88 03-02-2005 05:54 PM

Quite acurate phantom and Thinlomien. I'm not quite over the hill yet (eventhough it feels like I'm already tumbling down and sorry no beard). But, everything else is pretty much right. Yes phantom I do find that difficult on which to choose sometimes (I'd say football wins most of the time).

Child of the Seventh Age and Bethberry- For some inexplicable reason, I see them as the same person- this lady that used to work with me at Kohl's department store.
Same here, except for some reason Child has light colored hair and Bethberry has darker, and there was going to be a Kohl's, but alas, "it's too expensive" to build one here. I hate living in a small town....

Thinlómien: YOU'RE ALL WRONG! He or she is in fact a racoon, and only has an avatar of one to throw all of us off. :D ;)

mark12_30 03-02-2005 08:20 PM

I imagine Bethberry hopping onto one of Gandalf_theGrey's smoke-ships and sailing it around the room-- although I remember vaguely that somebody ELSE did that. Still, I got confused, and associated that with Bethberry.

I miss the old codger. Wish he'd come back.

Mithalwen 03-03-2005 06:09 AM

Mithalwen
Short. Long, ash-blonde hair and small but piercing grey eyes.

5"10 . Hair currently about shoulders, colour: Loreal 8.3 - it was ash blonde for a while but I found it depressing. Eyes not that small :( , but deep set, green-grey.

Boromir - never apologise for not having a beard....

Gil-Galad 03-03-2005 08:10 AM

i just see most people smaller then me....except Fordim cause hes Indiana Jones(or maybe that wierd bald guy from Raiders in disguise?)

Eomer of the Rohirrim 03-03-2005 10:58 AM

Poor Helen. I can tell you really wanted to be the one who discovered the mystery of the Spider. Perhaps the reason I imagine you with a detective's hat and large brown overcoat. ;)

And Fea, I used to be lanky but lately I've learned how to walk properly. Your description is pleasing, you lovely young madam!

Well....uhm....thats very imaginative. ;) But also very wrong. Well most of it atleast. I do like sweets, I dont take thinks very seriously and I read LotR. I've never read Wuthering Heights and I dont look like a butterfly. That would be creepy.

That's just because we are compared to you, O Tall Person!

What is going on with everyone picturing Eomer in a kilt? Yes, I know he's Scottish, but he can't wear a kilt 24/7. But, come to think of it, he probably could... and what pants he wears are plaid... They match his kilt. Hmm.... I must re-think my image.

Condescending national stereotyping of possibly the most un-nationalistic person on this forum.

A 'tis all in good fun!

elronds_daughter looks absolutely beautiful thanks to her dad's genes. Because of her upbringing she loves the high arts, and can usually be seen reading a classic novel or play. She has rounded ears. ;)

Heavens! That's too close for comfort. What are you, Eomer, psychic? I do usually have my nose in a book... Mostly LotR, though I do throw in some Shakespeare every now and again.

I think even if I read this thread from the very beginning, and all 26 pages in between, I would retain my generic images. There's generic teen boy, generic teen girl, generic college boy, generic college girl, generic adult boy, and generic adult girl.

You all have slightly unkempted light brown hair, and unilluminated eyes so I don't know their color. The teens are scrawny, college kids are still scrawny because they have no money, and by adulthood have put on perhaps more than healthy weight. The girls' hair goes between end of shoulder blades and end of back, and the boys' from normal to shoulder. Those of you in the Near-Sighted Elves Society have thin rimmed glasses.

And we all have an air of this site being about the only place where we can discuss Tolkien how we which to.

Tall is such a relative term. Gil-Galad, I'm ready to concede that you're taller than *most* other people on the Downs. But to me, you're not tall. :p My father and my middle younger brother are both 6'8". When people say someone is tall, perhaps he is - to them. To me, someone needs to be at least 6'6" for me to recognize that he's tall. There's a guy I've known for 3 years, and he's 6'5", I think. It never occurred to me that he was tall - I just felt normal around him! He was the size I am used to. My father was the first man I ever knew (obviously), and for a very long time the tallest I'd ever seen. When you see 6'8" as normal, what does that make the rest of the world??

But, for the sake of most other people, I'm ready to admit that you're tall. But I also hasten to defend Neurion. I don't know how tall he is. But I'm certainly not going to assume that 6'4" is the Downs' upper limit! :D

Incidentally, my oldest younger brother is roughly 6'2" - 6'3". My youngest younger brother is nearly 6' (we haven't measured in a while), and he's younger than you. It's a big question to see if he'll beat the oldest or not.

To stay on-topic: I see Neurion as his avatar, one of the Lorien Elves, and particularly since he's agreed he's tall. So, that makes him a good 6'6" or more, with a slim, strong build. Blond hair (but not long - I can't stand that), grey eyes, "aristocratic features." But he's a teenage boy, say 15, and although he looks like an Elf, he's full of mischief and chain-pulling.

So, maybe the astrology thread can get started up again? :smokin:

I believe my favourite of all the descriptions of me is the fashionable glowing cloud... :D

Hmm. I seem to have run out of people to describe. I really must pay more attention to the new members!

Why will it not let me use four smilies? The limit used to be eight! *is somewhat confused*

The Saucepan Man 03-06-2005 12:29 PM

Getting grouchy again ...

Talk of the respective heights of Gil-Galad and Neurion was of limited interest the first time that it came up on this thread. Now we are into the third or fourth round of discussion on this issue, it is becoming rather dull. Another occurrence may result in the closure of the thread ...

Personally, I would like to see more posts along the following lines:

Abercrombie of Rohan

Diamond18

A large majority of the umpteen hundred posts on this thread are distinctly lacking in the humour which one would expect on a Middle-earth Mirth thread, but which is exemplified in these posts.

Feanor of the Peredhil 03-06-2005 12:36 PM

TPotSS

For some reason, I'm picturing a PotC fan. Perhaps it's the "Pot" in her name. She's obviously a Star Trek fan, but I can also see a creative writer hiding inside her. Maybe some manic poetry or a private journal. Not the internet blog variety of girl. She's got waist-length black hair and dark eyes. Her skin is a lovely glowing golden brown, and she listens to The Beatles and a bunch of bands that nobody else has ever heard of. She has a great fondness of the classic arts, but (forgive me) is not much of an artist herself. She loves riding and spends an inordinate amount of time around horses, and when she isn't dreaming of riding off into the sunset with her hero, she's dreaming... of the hero. :D

: I don't think that you have fallen victim to my guesses yet, so here it goes: Again, the name prompts me to think you as a Blonde who loves horses. Unlike most in your land, you enjoy wearing jeans and tee-shirts with unusual print on them. Occasionally, you wear a brimmed hat that shadows your facial features.

Heh, I wish... That thread has a slight chance later on, but I'm pretty occupied for the following two months. Business, National History Day Finals, School trips for weeks in Victoria, BC, Tiegen and Sara concert... and much, much more.

My visions of AbercrombieOfRohan differ muchly from Morai's imaginitive imaginings. In my visions, Abercrombie is a somewhat bouncy girl with long brown hair and brown eyes, who is addicted to shopping. She consistantly wears distinctly "non-preppy" clothing.

Hmm, I guess "aristocratic features" is probably a good guess.

I'm also one of those naturally lean people who don't put on extra flesh easily (probably high metabolism), so the build guess is acurate.

Heightwise, I'm somewhere around 6'3", but I stated I was not one of those shorter than Gil because I'm still growing. As for my age, I'm an immortal Eldar. ;)

The Tennis Ball Kid

The 'Downer has secured a cozy little spot in my mind, becoming, rather than an intelligent individual (this I do not know for a fact is true, but I assume, seeing as how Tolkien fans are automatically brilliant), a genderless, squat, small, bright yellow tennis ball. The kind you can buy at Walmart that has a smily face. I have a sneaky suspicion that my dogs would like to chase it (remember, genderless), but since my puppy is anti-social, that isn't saying much. As my Thai's new nickname is Jelly Bean (seeing as how he has a wee bit of a Jellybelly), him chasing The Tennis Ball Kid is much more impressive, as it implies actually running. I see TTBK with a rather active personality, going with the flow and bouncing from one subject to another quite quickly.

Shelob 03-06-2005 09:15 PM

Well Abercrombie, it seems to be the popular thing these days (OK...today) to Imagine you...and after the "oh-so fitting"* image you gave of me I feel an overpowering need to respond in kind.

So, without further ado, I think AbercrombieOfRohan is decidedly stranger than has yet been suggested.

APPEARANCE: I imagine she's a fairly nondescript person who could
almost pass for normal if not for the fact that she is usually
muttering some work of Tolkien to herself, or caressing her copies
of the books between classes. I imagine that while she usually wears
jeans and a T-shirt (usually one that says something like 'Frodo
lives', 'There are some who call me...Tim' or 'I survived the Cliffs
of Insantiy') she has been known to wear various replicas of
clothing from the movies and has most likely incorporated some
aspect of The Lord of the Rings into every conceivable part of her
daily life at some time or another.

GEOGRAPHIC RANGE: New England...but with various escape
(mirgration?...no, American Abercrombies are non-mirgratorial)
attempts to England.

HABITAT: In her room, which has been made to resemble
Bag End...pantries and all...

BEHAVIOR:As suggested by her location and signature, I imagine she
spends a fair amount of time gallivanting around the galaxy, looking
for a cup of tea, and playing Scrabble. She has probably been tossed
out of more than a few pet stores for using their fish inappropriately in
an attempt to learn either Esparanto, Klingon, Xaasongaxango, or all three.

FOOD HABITS: The rival of mine...I susspect that "you also enjoy
eating odd food combinations, like peanuts and chocolate milkshakes."

OTHER: I imagine that she is not nearly as nerdy as suggested by her
appearance, and that people who take the time to know her find that
she is in fact a really nice, enthusiastic person who has a great
sense of humour and find that she isn't nearly as obsessive as she
first seems...but that she is in fact more obsessive...

::reads it over:: yep...most definitely Abercrombie...Sorry about it being written like a field guide entry, but that's what you get when I'm posting while studying...

*sarcastic...very sarcastic

THE Ka 03-06-2005 11:51 PM

Abercrombie has always seemed to me, to be either:

a) Just bursting to the brim with pop culture, and taste in fashion, with a side of fantasy reading.
or
b) Tigger wearing Abercrombie & Finch, bouncing while reading LOTR...

I don't know why, but i'm senseing a Tigger... Bouncy extroverted outside, but with an inside unknown to most of the general population.

Formendacil 03-07-2005 02:04 PM

I am a dashingly handsome young man, with deep green eyes, tall (but not by Nurunar's standards), with a brilliant intelligence, charming wit, and money like a Rockefeller.

Oh! Wait!

This is the "How do you imagine other BDers?" thread, not the "How do you imagine yourself thread?"

Unfortunately, most people's images are tied to their avatars and/or names. Thus, Estelyn Telcontar is some strange amalgamation of ogre, elf, and princess. A nasty combination, let me assure you. Let's hope she doesn't change to a Dwarf avatar....

The Barrow-wight is a fun-loving, rule-breaking, chatter. He lives in a rather dimly-lit basement, and has a small circle of furry, but devoted friends. (Sorry, that avatar looks too cheerful...)

Fordim Hedgethistle is known to be Canadian, and is known to use good Queen's English. Unfortunately, he is displayed as an Indiana Jones dog, so we come up with a cur of American ancestry (therefore, probably a prairie boy), grew up in the country, inherited a fortune from a British uncle that sent him to Oxford, and is now living in the Toronto area, where he fits in about as well as an ork in Rivendell...
