Welcome, all! (I'm not even going to attempt to remember everyone!) Wow, it's so nice to have so many newbies! Welcome to the Barrow-Downs!

Encaitare 01-26-2005 09:44 PM

Welcome alatar and Faramir! So now we have an elusive Blue Wizard and a Steward; how excellent. And don't worry, Faramir... the corniest thing you'll have to put up with here are Gil-Galad's puns. :p

Hmmm... now I shall have to think of a nice, gory, tragic death for myself... :D

Encaitare 01-27-2005 09:59 PM

Welcome back, ruts... I was wondering where you'd gone off to! :)

Elemmírë 01-27-2005 11:01 PM

Well... after a month with no Internet access, I finally managed to get myself verified and able to post. :)

Hello, everyone. I'm an 18 year old first year college student who is completely Middle Earth obsessed, though I'm interested mostly in the First Age. I'm a possible philosophy major with another obsession for languages, both real and invented. :)

Encaitare 01-28-2005 01:59 PM

Welcome, Elemmírë. I like your choice of name; I always thought it sounded pretty. And a Robert Frost fan, too, I see? Excellent taste. :)

Elemmírë 01-28-2005 02:24 PM

Thanks, Encaitare. :) I'm glad I finally figured out how to use accents... Quenya just doesn't look the same without it.

My 11th grade English teacher once showed that poem to the class, and I immediately went home and memorised it (8 lines is hardly difficult). It's one of my all time favourites. Well, I figure I can consider myself halfway sane until I lose it and start trying to memorise the Lay of Leithian...

Boromir88 01-28-2005 03:05 PM

Welcome to the downs Elemmire and welcome back ruts.

wilwarin538 01-28-2005 03:38 PM

Welcome!

Welcome Elemmírë to the downs! And welcome back ruts! ;) I will also have to think of a gruesome, yet honarable, death for myself.

Kermit the Frog 01-28-2005 03:56 PM

Hello everybody!
I've always enjoyed the Barrow-Downs name translator, and since I always accessed it through Google, I only found out recently that there was a site attached to it!

As you can see, I'm a Muppets fan, but my love for Lord of the Rings far outstrips the Muppets any day. I also enjoy fantasy books, listening to music (I like movie soundtracks, o.a.r., Guster, Coldplay, and Evanescense), and writing.

It's great to be dead. I think that's such a great idea.

I was going to do something a little more Elvish for my user name, but then I couldn't think of anything. ;)

Ainaserkewen 01-28-2005 04:47 PM

Come not my dead Frog, what is more elvish than a muppet...that would make an interesting crossover come to think of it.

I was wondering what was your favourite movie soundtrack? I love soundtracks.

Oh, and I love your Signature as well, fo shizzle.

elronds_daughter 01-28-2005 05:13 PM

Welcome to the 'Downs, Kermit the Frog! It must be nice to be a Muppet. ;) Nothing to worry about, and all the Muppet puppeteers to hang around with! :p

Encaitare 01-28-2005 07:11 PM

Elemmírë -- I love Frost's poem, "Some say the world will end in fire, some say in ice..." Now there is one worth memorizing. As for the Lay of Leithian... I know the first two verses of the one Aragorn recites in the book. It would be an amazing feat to learn the way long version in the Lays of Beleriand!

Welcome, Kermit. Great name! :)

wilwarin538 01-29-2005 04:28 PM

I love muppets!

Miss Piggy as Arwen, or maybe Galadriel! :D

Welcome Kermit! Enjoy being dead, and enjoy the downs!

Tamarisk 01-29-2005 10:23 PM

Hello everyone!

I'm so glad I've found this forum - so far it looks very cool. I'm only a very recent LotR convert - just finished my first reading of the books a few weeks ago, so I've obviously got a way to go before I can become as learned as everyone else here! :)

Anyhow, I feel very honoured to have died here, and I hope to remain dead for quite a while yet!

Gil-Galad 01-29-2005 10:34 PM

Welcome Tamarisk and Kermit!

elronds_daughter 01-30-2005 01:50 PM

Welcome to the 'Downs, Tamarisk! Enjoy your death, and have no fear. In time you shall learn much.

Encaitare 01-30-2005 07:34 PM

Greetings and welcome, Tamarisk. :) You'll definitely learn a lot here; I certainly did.

Soronumë 01-31-2005 07:43 AM

Welcome you all I haven't yet welcomed. :D
Enjoy your stay. :)

Atarah 01-31-2005 08:00 AM

Hello there!

I used to have an account here, but it's long gathered dust and cobwebs. I have decided to return but remain annonomous to my old identity. For those of you who do work out who I am: Ssssh! Keep it secret, keep it safe!

Thanks very much! I got third place for it in a contest on another site, The Council of Elrond.

My favourite soundtrack is... oh that's a tough one. I'd have to say Pirates of the Caribbean. Nice and piraty.

Kermit as Frodo? No... Aragorn? Er... we'll get back to that one.

Fozzie would make a great Gandalf, though.

Nukapei 01-31-2005 02:05 PM

And I'm really convinced Miss Piggy would make a great Galadriel. Especially the psycho scene! Not sure about her as Eowyn, though . . . hmm . . . who are the other females in the muppets? It's been awhile!

Aww, no hints? Were you here in my time, or are you truly an oldster? Now you've got me curious.

Welcome back, by the way, and welcome to death to you newbies.

Fea

Encaitare 01-31-2005 10:05 PM

Welcome back, atarah! Since I'm relatively new, I can't say I'd have any idea as to your identity. Looks like your secret's still safe!

Ilmare 02-01-2005 01:24 AM

Greetings

I am Ilmare, very new to the site. I am however not new to the works of JRRT and am so pleased to come across so many people who are as passionate about Middle Earth as myself! I am from South Africa, and work as an AIDS counsellor here. When ever the stress gets too much I find myself escaping into the works of Tolkien (at the moment I am studying The Silmarillion; again). It is wonderful to find a site where I can share my thoughts and feelings about the work with others in the know, thank you ;)

I am looking forward to a long and prosperous journey with all of you!

ohtatyaro 02-01-2005 01:31 AM

Welcome, Ilmare :)

I'm not an old hand myself, but grasp a chance to see others like me here in this thread from time to time

I've seen your first post in Denethor and Gadalf topic too. It was good :)

Atarah 02-01-2005 04:26 AM

Thank you for your welcomes Encaitare and Feanor of the Peredhil. Your name isn't familiar to me Feanor. I stopped being active a little bit before the forum changed to vBulletin. And no, no hints ;) Ah, it's good to die twice

Feanor of the Peredhil 02-01-2005 07:48 AM

Ah, but Atarah, that was a hint. You see, those of us with some memory know when we switched to VBulletin, and can skim through the members list to see who trailed off just before. :D

Boromir88 02-01-2005 03:28 PM

Welcome to everyone, may you enjoy the downs and prosper.

Nukapei 02-01-2005 04:37 PM

Hello to all newbies, may your deaths be approprately long and gruesome!

Knock yourself out, FotP! I, for one, have a life!

Athelas 02-02-2005 03:54 PM

I messed up and didn't see the correct place to post my existence, so here I am in the correct place. Hi, I'm Courtney. I love Lord of the Rings a lot. I'm reading the books for the 2nd time and I'm also reading The Silmarillion and the Lost Tales. It's taking me forever...

Encaitare 02-02-2005 04:53 PM

Welcome, Athelas. :)

Ach, you're not the only one. I'm still on Lost Tales 2....

Nimrodel_9 02-02-2005 05:02 PM

Welcome back rutslegolas! And welcome to the Downs Elemmírë, Kermit, Athelas, Atarah, and Ilmare! I hope your deaths weren't to gruesome! :D

By the way Elemmírë, I love your siggy! One of my favorite poems. :)

Nukapei 02-02-2005 05:25 PM

Welcome to the Downs, Athelas! Like your name -- King's Foil is one awesome plant!

You mean to imply that I don't? This is just a hobby of mine. Escapism, so to speak, from the overly large amounts of "life" I have to deal with on a regular basis. Gives me something completely unrelated to the lameness of highschool to think about.

Lucien Tindomiel 02-02-2005 06:09 PM

I just wanted to say Hi

Hi. I am new to this board. I am hoping to be able to add something new to your discussions, and perhaps find some kindred spirits. Blessings to all.

Ta da! Here am I, to offer a warm 'Welcome to the 'Downs' to Lucien Tindomiel, Athelas, Atarah and Ilmare! There are so many of you! But that's a good thing! :D

wilwarin538 02-03-2005 05:29 PM

A very good thing indeed!

I don't believe there were other females. Just like there was only one female smirf. ;)

Welcome Tamarisk, Atarah, Ilmare, Athelas and Lucien Tindomiel! Enjoy being dead! Enjoy the downs!
