How about things encountered by Frodo on his journey as Ringbearer from the Shire to Mount Doom (this can include people, creatures, places, items - anything really, as long as Frodo encountered it on his journey).

A- Athelas, the weed that was used to slow the poison in Frodo's wound near Weathertop. (Also called Kingsfoil).

B for Bree, needs no explanation, me thinks.

C is for Charadras (sp?) or red-horn, the mountain-pass the fellowship failed to cross

D is for Durin's Bane, the Balrog of Moria.
