Gil-Galad 12-09-2004 05:09 PM

Earendil, son of Idril, Daughter of Turgon, son of Fingolfin

so it would be more distant cousins...

anyways back to the quiz...

Who took the tower from the guard and who was the guard of the tower?

crpytic yes...

Fingolfin II 12-09-2004 08:28 PM

Sauron? He assaulted Minas Tirith, which was under Orodreth's care, and took Tol Sirion. He then became the lieutenant of Tol Sirion under Morgoth?

Gil-Galad 12-09-2004 10:53 PM

rather quick, good job, it was easy i know, couldn't think, busy making Silmarillion Flash movie

Fingolfin II 12-10-2004 05:21 AM

Cheers,

What/who killed Urwen?

Nilpaurion Felagund 12-10-2004 10:39 PM

An evil wind out of bloody Angband.

Fingolfin II 12-11-2004 12:06 AM

All yours, 'paurion.

Nilpaurion Felagund 12-11-2004 12:21 AM

Thanks!

So, like, which Elf-princes of Noldor died in Bragollach?

Gil-Galad 12-11-2004 12:00 PM

That would be Valiant Fingolfin, aganest Morgoths hammer did he meet his end...

Nilpaurion Felagund 12-12-2004 11:10 PM

Sorr, Gil.

Fingolfin died after Bragollach.

Gil-Galad 12-12-2004 11:12 PM

then...Gelmir? but i guess he started Bragollach...

the phantom 12-12-2004 11:47 PM

Angrod and Aegnor

Sorry, my mistake. I meant cousin's son. (I wouldn't consider that "distant".)

Nilpaurion Felagund 12-13-2004 12:53 AM

And the phantom takes it.

:)

the phantom 12-13-2004 01:12 AM

:)
Who was the wife of the man described as "the most fierce and desperate"?

Nilpaurion Felagund 12-13-2004 02:31 AM

Eiliniel?

the phantom 12-13-2004 11:24 AM

Ditch that last "i" and you've got it.

Or... well, I suppose you can have it anyway.

:p

Nilpaurion Felagund 12-13-2004 09:05 PM

An extra "i"?

Ai, Eru nîn! A misspelling I have made!

Well, thanks, Herr phantom, for overlooking my mistake. :)

Who brought up the father of the king of the Kings of Men?

the phantom 12-13-2004 10:06 PM

Kings of Men= Numenoreans

The King of the Numenoreans= the line of Elros

The father of the line= Elros

Who brought Elros up? Maglor

Is that what you were looking for?

Nilpaurion Felagund 12-13-2004 10:30 PM

I'm sorry.

Elros is not the father of that line, he was the first.

the phantom 12-13-2004 10:36 PM

Then I suppose you are calling Earendil the father of the line?

Earendil was brought up by his mommy and daddy, Tuor and Idril.

Nilpaurion Felagund 12-13-2004 10:42 PM

Still not him, I'm afraid.

"[F]ather of the king of the Kings of Men" is a phrase in UT. It doesn't refer to Eärendil.

the phantom 12-13-2004 10:49 PM

Looking for a phrase, eh? Bleh, I don't have my books.

But seeing as there is (or would appear to be) a limited number of candidates, I will venture one further guess...

Annael of the Grey-Elves

(not a complete guess though, for now that you mention UT I seem to remember a description of Tuor when in Turgon's hall or leaving it stating that he didn't know how great he looked, and it might have said something about looking the part of the father of the kings of men)

Nilpaurion Felagund 12-13-2004 10:53 PM

A buzzer-beater shot . . .

. . . and he scores!

Annael it is!

Your thread, Sir phantom.

the phantom 12-13-2004 11:05 PM

the phantom doesn't know the meaning of the phrase "I give up". :p

Okay, who did men say was born with good luck?

the phantom 12-16-2004 10:53 PM

Hint- he met Hurin.

the phantom 12-21-2004 11:25 AM

Hint- he met Hurin after he (Hurin) was released from Angband.

Lindolirian 12-21-2004 11:30 AM

Manthor?

the phantom 12-22-2004 12:38 AM

Nope, but not too far off. The page I'm looking at right now has both Manthor's name and the name I'm looking for on it.

Marky Lazer 12-23-2004 06:34 AM

Could it be Avranc?

Feanor of the Peredhil 12-23-2004 09:22 AM

The phantom is out of town for the holidays, so he's requested that I babysit his quiz question. Avranc is not correct.

Fea

the phantom 01-02-2005 04:41 PM

Hint-

He followed the wandering Hurin and had his good luck mentioned when they were near Brethil.

Nilpaurion Felagund 01-04-2005 12:37 AM

May I ask?

Is it found in the Silm or UT?

the phantom 01-04-2005 11:23 AM

HoME Volume XI The War of the Jewels, The Wanderings of Hurin

Celebriel Esgaledhel 01-06-2005 06:56 PM

a random guess....

hardang?

the phantom 01-07-2005 06:50 PM

His name begins with an "A".

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 01-18-2005 12:32 AM

Let me spring in late here and say, Asgorn?

[Edit:] the ever kindhearted phantom sent me a pm asking whether I meant "Asgon". I suspect I did.

the phantom 01-18-2005 11:22 PM

I suspect you did, also.

And if our suspicions are correct, it would be your turn.

Go ahead, my dear.

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 01-19-2005 12:16 AM

Thank you I shall...

Amon Rudh resembled a bald head. That bald head occasionally appeared to have a strange ailment. What was that ailment, and what was its cause?

Celebriel Esgaledhel 01-19-2005 11:35 AM

Amon Rudh was covered with seregon, a plant named for its blood-like appearance. It often appeared that this hill was covered with blood. This hill was made of stone, though seregon (meaning blood of stone in Quenya) was able to grow on it.

Is this what you were looking for?

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 01-19-2005 12:43 PM

Precisely

That's exactly what I was looking for. Sorry about the extremely strange wording, otherwise the question would have been too easy.

*steps to the side* the floor is yours. :)
