WarBringer 12-15-2002 04:17 PM

is it truth?

Susan Delgado 12-15-2002 04:19 PM

That's what I guessed, back on the other page.

dragoneyes 12-15-2002 04:28 PM

ok then, I'll make it really complicated with three riddles at once

little nany netticoat,
In a white petticoat,
The longer she stands,
The shorter she grows.

Susan Delgado 12-15-2002 04:30 PM

As I see before me next to my monitor (mixing old and new, I am), a candle

dragoneyes 12-15-2002 04:31 PM

Yeah, I made it an easy one

Susan Delgado 12-15-2002 04:33 PM

So what about mine?

You can see me, though you're blind
Light shines, but dispels no darkness
Touch me and I live,
But if you're touched, I die.

dragoneyes 12-15-2002 05:07 PM

No, I'm pretty clueless on that one. Truth is the best answer here on Aragorn's one, I'll have to go with that one too.

Aragorn_The_King 12-15-2002 05:44 PM

Nobodys guessed mine.

Susan Delgado 12-15-2002 05:49 PM

Yes we have. All of us have guessed "truth"

Truth is not the answer to mine though.

Aragorn_The_King 12-15-2002 05:53 PM

I meant nobody guessed CORRECTLY

Susan Delgado 12-15-2002 05:55 PM

Well, you have to specify.

How close are we with truth?

the mortal elf 12-15-2002 07:52 PM

I am soooo sorry, you guys. My mom kicked me off for the last 2 or 3 days *gasp* I know this is way too late to even be payed any attention, but Diamond18 was right, it is music. Good job

Diamond18 12-15-2002 07:58 PM

Thanks. I don't have time to write one right now, though, so you guys can continue with...whatever you were doing before the mortal elf posted the answer.

purplefluffychainsaw 12-16-2002 01:05 PM

I do have... somewhere a list of riddles I wrote one day after reading the hobbit for the 50th time
Hey, I wanted soemething new out of it. I'll go find them...

purplefluffychainsaw 12-16-2002 01:13 PM

Right...
1) Under the mountain, but under the hill,
Where I shall go is no mans will,
Searching for dragons, searching for treasure,
Searching for treasure that no one can measure,
Through the valleys, through the dale,
Will I be home in time for the sale?

2)Fell away from those who love him so,
But this is all that his friends know.
A golden wood, a lady fair,
With great tumbling locks of hair.

3)In secret passage ways,
This is where I spend my days,
Holding something precious to me,
Something precious that won’t let me be,
But when my precious is stolen,
I have to leave my dark den.

4)A single band of gold is me,
But I am more than you can see.

5)A gardener, not warrior,
A cook, no cautions took,
Follow master everywhere,
Try and harm him if you dare.

6)A ringbearer in the doom,
But will it be his soon?

7)In dark days I started a war,
A great all-seeing eye that none saw,
Keeping away is good for you,
Unless you own what no men do.

8)The white hand who sees all,
But will not answer anther’s call,
A traitor in his hall of stone,
Soon will have to leave his home.

9)The dark lords, nine black kings,
Were so foolish, took the rings,
Now must follow masters order,
Bring the one ring back to Mordor.

10)Light of foot, runs so swift,
Was given a bow as a gift,
Has blond hair and green eyes,
Gives his foes a big surprise.

11)A lonely ranger in the last homely house,
In the cracks of Moria his fears must douse,
A king of all though all is not seen,
Wants the Evenstar to be his queen.

12)Came to the council for advise on Isildur’s bane,
Before this adventures over his fears will wane,
Through the trees they heard his horn,
Before they could help his life was shorn.

13)Two good friends, two best mates,
Will not enter the black gates,
They are captured by an Orc,
And after them three hunters sought.

14)Swift as the wind,
White as the snow,
Carries his master,
Look at him go!

Ps, 13 is two people

Susan Delgado 12-16-2002 01:31 PM

This one hasn't been answered has it?

My riddling skills are a little rusty... it's been a while, Susan.
Anybody got any guesses? My mind is a big ol' blank

Aragorn_The_King 12-17-2002 07:05 PM

Susan Delgado 12-17-2002 07:25 PM

Gandalf_theGrey 12-17-2002 10:28 PM

Hullo Susan,

My answer to the riddle is "brain."

Susan Delgado 12-17-2002 10:48 PM

It's not a body part, it's something that happens to you.

Gandalf_theGrey 12-17-2002 10:52 PM

Metaphorically, I would say "dream."

Gandalf_theGrey 12-17-2002 11:29 PM

Here is an original riddle of my own devising, newly writ:

Earth catches my shadow as I pass borne aloft, with my twin on the other side.
Or, Fire may hollow me, if a hollow is made in the Earth before.
Water, should it fill me, can be carried within, but then I carry not my true sound.
Air borrowed from the silent voice of another gives voice to me.

Nuranar 12-18-2002 12:00 AM

Gandalf the Grey, is it a tree?

Many thanks for a most fascinating riddle!

Gandalf_theGrey 12-18-2002 12:35 AM

Hail Nuranar,

Well met!

While I commend you on an answer both creative and poetic, tree is not the answer I seek, nor even close.

The answer can be formed either from the substance of a creature living or dead, or from a substance that never drew breath.

Susan Delgado 12-18-2002 12:42 AM

Your very clue is a riddle, Gandalf
I must think on it more.

Garen LiLorian 12-18-2002 02:22 AM

a windchime, perhaps?
Very interesting riddle, Gandalf.

Susan Delgado 12-18-2002 02:28 AM

Or some sort of musical instrument anyway?
It must have something to do with the Elements.

Gandalf_theGrey 12-18-2002 08:56 AM

Why thank you kindly, Susan Delgado.

* bows a friendly bow *

The four elements are not, taken together as a theme, any sort of a clue. I like writing poetry, and in that vein my mind simply wanted to associate how the object of my riddle could apply to each of the four elements. Instrumental, indeed!

Hail Garen LiLorian:

Well met. I've seen you here or there around the Downs, and admire what I've seen.

Thank you for "chiming" in with your answer, however, the answer is not a windchime. But here is where you are right ... you are "winding" your way ever closer.

Gandalf the Grey

Aragorn_The_King 12-18-2002 11:34 AM

A clock?-- Owise one
*bows*

Aragorn_The_King 12-18-2002 12:39 PM

Gandalf, where are you!

Gandalf_theGrey 12-18-2002 03:03 PM

My dear Aragorn_the_King:

* bows *

Not a clock. For as everyone in this Third Age of Middle Earth knows, the only sound a clock makes is ticking, though indeed it "tells" the time.

The object in my riddle can produce sound when someone uses it in the normally accepted manner, and properly for that purpose.

As for where I am ... don't I always come and go at unexpected times?

Nuranar 12-18-2002 03:07 PM

A woodwind instrument?

Grasping at straws while I ponder it more.

Nuranar 12-18-2002 03:09 PM

Gandalf, I've got you!

A horn!

That was wonderful!!!

WHOOP!

Gandalf_theGrey 12-18-2002 03:54 PM

Congratulations, Nuranar!

Right you are, it's a horn.
