I like the name "Elanor" (bet you couldn't tell ), although I'd be very unlikely to name a child after a LotR character. "Elanor" isn't too unusual since if it was spelled "Eleanor" it would be considered perfectly normal (I like it without the extra "e," though). I kind of have a Middle-earth name; my middle name is "Rose." It wasn't meant to be, though, as neither of my parents have read LotR. Oh, well.

Gimli Son Of Gloin 07-16-2002 12:44 PM

NazgulNumberTen 07-16-2002 02:31 PM

Lothiriel Silmarien 07-16-2002 02:34 PM

NazgulNumberTen 07-16-2002 02:37 PM

Lothiriel Silmarien 07-16-2002 03:41 PM

Ok, so it's a bit extreme, but they're nice names! Some of them. A little odd, but nice! Sorta.

NazgulNumberTen 07-16-2002 03:49 PM

Lothiriel Silmarien 07-16-2002 03:54 PM

Oh, I like that! *adds name to list of possible names to name a child*

Losthuniel 07-16-2002 09:52 PM

I like Lorien, Lauerelin and Niphredil (cnat spell). I also like Aerin, but that isnt Tolkien related. now the trick is to eventually end up with a guy who doesnt mind odd names.

Lothiriel, choose Canada. our winters are cold, but there actualyy IS more than snow up here.

Nevfeniel 07-16-2002 10:01 PM

I actually made a list of baby names that I like. . . Huh? What's that? Oh, I'm crazy? Yeah, I get that a lot.
Anyhoo. . . I LOVE the name Nienna, and I also like Elanor. By the way, wouldn't Nenya or Vilya make a great middle name?

Lady_Báin 07-17-2002 03:51 AM

I like Thórin IF you pronounce the "ó" like in show and you role the "r". I also like Dáin if you pronounce the "á" like the icelandic "á".

Losthuniel, I like Canada I think I will choose Canada. Like Vancouver or something. I don't know. Oh, I'll own a castle in Scotland, a hobbit hole in NZ, and a house in Canada!

I like those names. I was thinking, what about Nimloth? I like that. Oh, and Nenya and Vilya are good middle names, Nev

Thinhyandoiel 07-17-2002 05:34 PM

Losthuniel, Aerin is LOTR related if you spell it Eryn! Also Aerin was "a kinswoman Hurin in Dor-Lomin; taken as wife by Brodda the Easterling; aided Morwen after the Nirnaeth Arnoediad." Other names I've looked up that are LOTR and could actually work (or just sound plain pretty ): Amarie (beloved of Finrod Felagund), Aranel, Arien, Celeborn (as a middle name), Doriath (it sounds like Dorian, it's a pretty name!) Ack! I have to get off the computer, but I do have more! So, I'll give more later. Toodles!

Losthuniel 07-17-2002 05:49 PM

oh riiiiight. now i remeber

Mrs. Frodo Baggins 07-29-2002 07:29 PM

Seriously, I like the name Samwise, as maybe a middle name.

I think that Nienor or Niniel would be pretty.

Niphredil Baggins 08-04-2002 09:31 AM

Hmm... lets see, I might give my child a
Middle-Earth middle name

Yavanna would be nice for a girl. Modest, huh?

ElfEarz 08-04-2002 10:38 PM

no your not crazy Lothiriel Silmarien! i'm going to name my kids Lotr and star wars names. hmmm their going to be so interesting. one is going to be Jaina Arwen, does that sound ugly? i've got a ton of others.

Dimaldaeon 08-05-2002 12:52 PM

Hey Lothiriel you never mentioned The Czech Republic in that list. They nocked us (The Irish) into second place in The top ten alcohol consuming countries in Europe.

Most of these names are too weird to be given to children without the risk of constant bullying ( Some English prick used to make fun my name, then Puaric beat his head in. )
Of course these aren't half as weird as my name in Gaeilge
Gearóid Cieran Tadgh O'hÉidin

NazgulNumberTen 08-05-2002 01:29 PM

woohoo i'm part czech!
(pops champain bottle)

doug*platypus 12-28-2002 08:42 AM

I'm having my first child right now... well, not right now. But you know what I mean. I never seriously considered a Middle-Earth, or for that matter a Star Wars name. I'd be worried about my kid being turned off Tolkien/Star Wars because they didn't like their name, or were a little embarassed because of where it came from. I know there's a tendency these days for people to name their kids by anything they can think of. My mum teaches a girl that her parents called Juanna Marie - MarieJuanna, get it?

Did you ever see the Gary Larson cartoon "why people named buddy hate to drive"? You'll know what I'm talking about.

Horse-Maiden of the Shire 12-30-2002 11:51 AM

For a guy, I like Pippin. its a cute, mischievous little name and i hope my kid is cute and mischievous. for a girl, i like Elbereth. its elegant and beautiful sounding. PLS HELP ME! How do i get a pic on my profile??
