"Ah!" "That is a very long story." was said by Gandalf to Frodo in FOTR, Book One, Chapter II, The Shadow of the Past. He had just proved to Frodo and himself that Frodo's ring was the One Ring. Frodo asked, "How, how on earth did it come to me?"
So the story is about how the Ring came to Frodo. [ November 08, 2001: Message edited by: Lostgaeriel ] [ November 08, 2001: Message edited by: Lostgaeriel ] [ November 08, 2001: Message edited by: Lostgaeriel ] |
exactly!

Hooray! I finally found a quote I could answer.
Try this: Quote:
|
Gandalf said that to himself after inspecting Frodo at Rivendell, (after the hobbit had got stabbed at weathertop) and finding a hint of transparency on him.

Exactly. Ask away, Durin's Bane!

Okee doke. Try this one:
"That may not prove to be one of the lighter matters," |
Gandalf said this at the end of his conversation with Saruman at Orthanc, July 10, 2018.
This was Gandalf's reply to Saruman, who had said, "... until it (the Ring) is found in your despite, and the Ruler (I think Saruman had himself in mind) has time to turn to lighter matters: to devise, say, a fitting reward for the hindrance and insolence of Gandalf the Grey." Gandalf then recounted this in answer to Galdor's question, "What of Saruman?" at the Council of Elrond. Whew! I'm out of breath. [ November 09, 2001: Message edited by: Lostgaeriel ] |
That's it!

OK. Here’s one:

Is this where Gandalf is trying to open the doors of Moria? If not, I have other ideas, but I will be good and only put one at a time.
|
VERY close! A little bit before that.
|
My bad, this was his encantation to light the trees with fire when they were fighting the wolves between Moria and Caradhras.
|
Correct! Your turn to ask.

Quote:

Was that to Aragorn, after Gandalf gave him the palantir to guard?
|
Close, but no pipeweed.
|
Gandalf to Treebeard happy the ents will keep an eye at Saruman's doings

Very good! Have a gold star and a turn at the quote wheel.

The answer to your Gandalf quote number 1. That I must say was easy is. In the Shire when Frodo says Why didn't Bilbo kill gollum there and then. Frodo also thinks back to it when they later find gollum and have the chance to kill him.

Welcome to the forum, jpoet!
Good job on the quote, but usually/always you're supposed to answer the most recently posted quote in a thread. Then if you're the first to get it right, you can post the next quote to be guessed. Sometimes we have to wait awhile for people to post a new quote, but if you ever have a quote or idea that just can't wait, feel free to start a new thread. Of course, reading the full thread is a good idea to keep from repeating quotes. Hmmm...that leads to an interesting question. What will we do when we've quoted everything that Tolkien has ever written? I'm sure the end will come eventually... Oh, well. HI, whenever you're ready. |
Okay, an easy one:
"O Elbereth, Gilthoniel! We still remember we who dwell.." It was the only thing I could think of. Who sings it where? |
Whoops, it's late and this is like catnip.. let me think of a Gandalf quote.

welcome to the board, jpoet and Marileangorifurnimaluim (nice nick, but what may it mean? )

Thank you much! As for the meaning of my riff, I'll never tell!
Hmmm A guess...if all the Boffers, Bolgers, and yes, even the ridiculous Baggins, were to be made slaves. Gandalf to Frodo in the Shadow of the Past. "But who would want such slaves!" |

Gandalf instructs Pippin in Minas Tirith not to say to Denethor the whole story about Aragorn coming back,
Boromir and Frodo's mission. Is that good enough? |
I suppose that answer will do, as vague and non-specific as it is.
Your turn, Androndo. |
It was correct... isn't it the correctness that counts?
