Orodoliel 10-21-2002 01:47 PM

can we please have a clue?
This one is really hard!

hobbitlass 10-21-2002 04:13 PM

Merry is saying it about Pippin to Theoden at Orthanc.

"Welcome, my lords, to Isengard!", he said, "We are the door-wardens. Meriadoc, son of Saradoc is my name; and my companion, who, alas! is overcome with weariness is Peregrin son of Paladin, of the house of Took."

TolkienGurl 10-23-2002 08:54 PM

Good job hobbitlass! Wow, now it makes sense!

hobbitlass 10-23-2002 09:05 PM

Merlilot probably has forgotten about this one so I'll go ahead and post.....

But Gandalf chose to come himself, and he was the first to be lost. His foresight failed him.

Morgoth Bauglir 10-24-2002 07:48 AM

galadriel?

Aramacil 10-24-2002 09:40 AM

I think it's Gimli

TolkienGurl 10-24-2002 11:20 AM

maybe Aragorn?

Legolas 10-24-2002 12:23 PM

Aramacil has it

Wait for hobbitlass to say so, though

hobbitlass 10-25-2002 04:40 AM

Armicil (and Legolos) that's correct. It is Gimli. They had reached the place were Eomer's eored fought and burned the orcs.
Go ahead.

Aramacil 10-25-2002 05:15 AM

Okay, I’ll go ahead
Here’s my quote:
Quote:

I would not snare even an orc with a falsehood
Hobbitlass it’s Aramacil

Beren87 10-27-2002 04:57 PM

Hmm, i think it was Frodo to Faramir, though that's probably wrong.

TolkienGurl 10-27-2002 07:12 PM

Oh, its Faramir talking to Frodo:
Quote:

Faramir smiled grimly. 'Then you would grieve to learn that Boromir is dead?'
'I would grieve indeed,' said Frodo. Then catching the look in Faramir's eyes, he faltered. 'Dead?' he said. 'Do you mean that he is dead, and that you knew it? You have been trying to trap me in words, playing with me? Or are you now trying to snare me with a falsehood?'
'I would not snare even an orc with a falsehood,' said Faramir.

Sorry Armacil, I sometimes forget spellings from the time I read and then post.

Aramacil 10-28-2002 03:57 AM

you are correct tolkiengurl.
please continue the tread.

TolkienGurl 10-30-2002 08:45 AM

I don't have my book with me right now. Someone else can go, or you can wait until I get home. Doesn't matter to me!

TolkienGurl 10-30-2002 05:40 PM

OK here we go:

Quote:

"No time for play on this trip."
Who or what said this?

Morgoth Bauglir 10-30-2002 06:10 PM

gollum?

Telchar 10-31-2002 04:41 AM

Shagrat?

TolkienGurl 10-31-2002 11:58 AM

More vague, Telchar.

Lostgaeriel 10-31-2002 04:49 PM

It was one of the orcs from the Mines of Moria (he is not named) - not one of Saruman's Uruk-hai (example Uglúk) nor one of Sauron's (Lugbúrz) orcs (example Grishnákh) - as they take Merry and Pippin across Rohan.

TolkienGurl 10-31-2002 06:10 PM

Correctomundo!

Lostgaeriel 11-01-2002 09:41 AM

Quote:

How comes this?

hobbitlass 11-05-2002 06:59 AM

Will you give a little hint, please?

Telchar 11-05-2002 08:33 AM

Else I will hobitlass - the words are said in Rohan

Morgoth Bauglir 11-05-2002 02:40 PM

theoden? or grima?

Legolas 11-06-2002 10:17 AM

Which of those?

Morgoth Bauglir 11-06-2002 02:52 PM

theoden?

Lostgaeriel 11-08-2002 10:00 PM

Yes, Morgoth Bauglir, you finally guessed correctly.

This is from The Two Towers, Book Three, Chapter VI, The King of the Golden Hall. Théoden says this in response to the just-released Éomer offering his sword to the king. Háma then answers the king's query.

Go ahead and give us a quote to solve, MB.

Many thanks to Telchar and Legalos for getting in there to offer hints. (I forgot to check if anyone had answered this one.)

TolkienGurl 11-12-2002 04:19 PM

Someone post, please? It is Morgoth Bauglir's turn, but if he doesn't post then I will!

Lostgaeriel 11-12-2002 05:04 PM

I understand that you are itching to post a quote, TolkienGurl, but it's been less than a week since I posted that Morgoth Bauglir answered correctly. At least give him/her the seven days.

I've just now sent him/her a Private Message as a reminder.

If you're that anxious to post a quote, just start another thread. We need more active Quote and Quiz threads anyway.

TolkienGurl 11-13-2002 11:33 AM

Hee, hee. Sorry. Maybe I need a life...

Morgoth Bauglir 11-13-2002 02:46 PM

"no, not all"

TolkienGurl 11-16-2002 10:03 AM

Is that the whole quote? Can you give us just a few more words? Puhleeze?

Beren87 12-10-2002 04:28 PM

Twas Pippin!

-Imrahil- 12-10-2002 04:32 PM

pippin I believe.

Beren87 12-16-2002 06:52 PM

Am I correct Morgoth?

Beren87 12-21-2002 04:04 PM

Hmm, I know I'm correct so I'm simply going to go.

Why must you disturb my rest?

Beren87 12-22-2002 01:50 AM
