But there were others too capable of saying similar things. This certainly was not said by Sauron :)

Another way to produce mistranslations is to take quote of some translated piece (here is the Russian one), and translate it back into the language of the original. Once we (me and several of my friends) have had lot of fun thus translating verses to and fro. So, I’m well pleased to present to your attention the quote below:

Correct. Compare it now with the original heh:

Ok try this mangled tranlsation:
Quote:
Do ain't something of bone-pate you tin backing she in the name of all wonder do not touch this say furrier anew as lank as you I'm with z hundred mile vis-a-vis thereof bear, not rug, headland, tippet, coupling not as unlike such unfrequented say.

I swear, that's how it came out.
|

The original quote was Gandalf to Bilbo before entering Beorn's house (about not using the word "furrier" etc.), which I translated from english to Russian to Polish back to eEglish, thereby destroying all remaining meaning.
|

Correct. as for a 'translation', mea culpa, I just replaced the words a bit so to mask the real quote.

'Stop him! Don't let him go! ' cried ____
'I wonder? ' said ____. `He is the Bear, and the fate of the bears is on him. I do not think that it is our part to drive him one way or the other. Nor do I think that we should succeed, if we tried. There are other powers at work far stronger.' |

Bear-bearer Ask on |
I have no good quote right now, so you can ask. I'll be back when I got one.

Here is one directly translated from swedish, it's not very hard but it's diffrent from the original:
Quote:
who says this and about what? |
Is that Bilbo to Dori, trying to clarify his "piece of bacon" comment about how it feels to be carried by an eagle? The original English being, "O no! Not a bit like storks - forks, I mean"?
|
Right you are.
|
The punctuation came out rather strange on this one, but it's not too difficult.
