OK....my favorite would have to be Gandalf. Why? One word: determination; the man with the plan; a long term thinker.

I like Aragorn but he could be kind of wishy-washy. Gee, go to Mordor or Minas Tirith? Paths of the Dead or not? Paper or Plastic? Gees, the guy couldn't settle on his own name half the time....But, I'm posting rather with tongue in cheek. I do like Aragorn but he is only a few pages in Middle-Earth History. Gandalf is a whole section (with footnotes even).

Well a lot of you are comparing the two characters but the only thing they really have in commen are they are both leadership casts. Gandalf leads the party with knowledge and wisdom, Aragorn more on instinct. but lets face it gandalf was there from the begining

although Gandalf has a section Aragorn would have a section in the 5th age

A completely unfair question, i could not choose, to stand with me in a fight against some orcs yes I would choose aragorn, but in a fight against a power like the Balrog, Aragorn could not do much, Gandalf gets my vote even though I respect Aragorn as much as I respect any other char. from Middle Earth.
