When you walk around all day trying to figure out the meaning of Tolkien's languages. Really, I do this. I speak Japanese, Spanish, English(of course), studied Latin, Greek and Hebrew in HS and Bible college.

When the only places you go on the web now are Tolkien related.

Elven-Maiden 02-14-2002 05:57 PM

Whenever you say "Aragorn" you bite your tongue, resisting the urge to say "Son of Arathorn"

When you shudder every time you see a golden ring. It may be The One Ring.

When you wonder if that guy in history class just might be an elf...

It's so true! I do that all the time! My poor misguided friends are being to get a little bit scared! lol! Oh well at least I can wow them with my Quenya knowledge!

Nazgūl Queen 02-15-2002 12:36 AM

<center><font color="red">But wait... theres more! (And I've done all of them regularly)

When you plan to get yourself a sword... and a black cape... and the one ring... so you can truly be a Nazgul...

And when whenever someone wants to take something from you you hold it close and hiss "It came to me, my own, my love, my preciousssssssss"

When you spend all day at LotR sites, reading LotR, speaking Quenya and worshipping Tolkien.

When you want a statue so you can make a Tolkien Shrine.

Aralaithiel 02-15-2002 08:13 PM

I already have a Legolas shrine! I got the Legolas action figure (complete with dagger slashing AND arrow launching action )
Must kiss the Legolas doll every morning and night!!
OK...I am defintely sick!

Well, before I thought that i was just a hudge fan of the book, but since yesterday when i looked around my room, I realised that it is not so. I'm a looney fanatic. Why? Because yesterday I got a giant movie stand up with Gandalf, Galadriel and the fellowship, you know, the one that they put in cinemas, I don't know where to put it, it's stands in the middle of my room like a portal. My sister makes fun of me and says that I could put candles and flowers in front of it. I have heaps of other Tolkien related stuff : posters, the one ring, different book editions, soundtrack, screensavers, I even make clothes with cirth and tengwar runes on them but this might be too much.

Well, my friends think that I'm obsessed, but I don't care, i'm not the only one.

Glenethor 02-16-2002 12:50 AM

You people scare me!

I scare me! Thank God I am too lazy to actually start learning Elvish in one form or another. That laziness is all that is saving me from slowly going over the edge like some here (says the guy who's seen the movie 21 times....)

Starbreeze 02-16-2002 10:03 AM

Also:

When you go out and buy

Three rings and long evening dresses
Seven rings and an axe
Nine rings, a black cloak and a large black horse.

I have not, however done this!

Starbreeze 02-16-2002 10:06 AM

Oh, yes

Or you buy just one ring, and a really scary mask, then boss every one around.

Aralaithiel 02-16-2002 10:33 AM

Starbreeze, it sounds like you are re-writing "The 12 Days of Christmas"! Hey...that just gave me a song idea!

Starbreeze 02-16-2002 10:41 AM

What makes you say that, Aralaithiel?
On the first day of fever I dressed up as an elf
On the second day of fever I dressed up as an orc...

I really haven't a clue what you mean! Lol

Raefindel 02-16-2002 03:47 PM

Let's raise a glass of Miruvor and toast the fevered Tolkien-atics! We are a small lot, but we are proud! Here! Here!

Rose Cotton 02-16-2002 06:29 PM

The thing with me is I can NEVER stop talking about LotR. My friends will be talking about sports, boys, etc. and than all of a sudden I start talking about something Tolkien related. And I do catigorize people based on Tolkien charicters.

Starbreeze 02-17-2002 09:56 AM

We may be a small lot, but our numbers are evr growing! Hey Rose! Finally someone else!
Yesterday I was walking down down the street and I saw these people having an argument, they reminded me so much of orcs that I couldn't help laughing - I got some very strange looks!

You know you have Tolkein Fever when:

You swear that the new teacher at school is an elf - the way he walks, the way he talks, his ears!

You are sure that your brother is gollum.

You swear that the man across the street from you is a troll, especially the way he never comes out in sunlight!

the_master_of_puppets 02-17-2002 10:56 AM

Daisy: i know exactly how u feel! Ever since i saw the film (now 6 times!!) and read the books i dont think a day goes passed when i dont mention it 2 someone! Of coarse, this is as the person above said, their problem not mine! I am a fanatic, a huge fan, but i wouldnt say i was unhinged because of it! We all come 2 'ere (this site i mean) because we share a passion 4 one thing: Tolkien's work. And the number of people we meet every visit does JRRT a major credit, and lets each of us know we do not stand alone as near-obcessive fans! lol. After all; we cant all be weird in these numbers!! can we...

Gorothlammothiel 02-17-2002 01:50 PM

I think perhaps we are not weird....just different. What is "weird" anyway? If people see us as weird then more fool them for not appreciating what we,and so many others, do. If people truly believe we are, then so be it. I have no problem being so, as i have been most of my life, i'm not afraid to admit that i am obsessed with LOTR and such of Tolkiens work........

Starbreeze 02-17-2002 03:24 PM

We are not weird, it is the people who aren't obsesses who are weird!

Joy 02-17-2002 04:00 PM

Some days, well like today, all I do is set with the books in my hand trying to figure out how to speak Elvish. I think I am going to take a course in Quenya. Just wish this was accepted at my college

I was thinking that next time I have to give an audition for a play, I am going to read Namarie, or either sing it.

Elven-Maiden 02-17-2002 05:25 PM

I went out, and bought nearly all of the Burger King LotR toys. Legolas isn't as cute as in the movie though....

Starbreeze 02-18-2002 03:12 PM

You can buy Legolas!?!

Aralaithiel 02-18-2002 03:32 PM

Yeah Starbreeze, something along those lines. Or maybe...
On the first day of Tolkien fever, the obcessed fan bought for him/her, the one ring with Elvish script.
On the second day of the fever the obcessed fan bought for him/her; 2 impish hobbits and the one ring with Elvish script.
OK...I think you get the idea...
And NO! YOU CANNOT BUY LEGOLAS! I MARRIED HIM!!! Bwahahahaha!
miruvor? Where????? Must have miruvor, my preciousssss...

[ February 18, 2002: Message edited by: Aralaithiel ]

Starbreeze 02-18-2002 03:39 PM

I like your version much better!
I can't buy Legolas? Oh ****** (scuse my language!). Oh well, I 'll just have to dream!

Sorry girls, but I OWN the Legolas Burger King doll! Oh yeah!

he's sitting right next to my computer, even as I type this!

the_master_of_puppets 02-18-2002 04:20 PM

who agrees with me there should be a National Tolkien's Fanatic's Day? All of us Proud Obcessives could spend the day in their own way honouring the greatest novel(s) of our previous centuary.....

basiclly an excuse to sing/speak in elvish 2 each other, dress up and go about as our fav. lotr characters and all that: and do it with other people just as proud 2b obcessive as ourselves!

or do u all think im taking it too far? coz if we all get together we could so do that

That's an awsome idea! Count me in!

costume... hmm... I'm thinking Elven princess, the perfect match for the Prince of Mirkwood. Oh Legolas...

the_master_of_puppets 02-18-2002 04:44 PM

thank u! some1 like my idea! and i call shotgun on being pippin! lol..

Gorothlammothiel 02-18-2002 05:50 PM

Thumbs up for that great idea......a Tolkien fanatics day, you can count me in for certain, although the rest of the world might not appreciate it so.....but who cares.....our day, for us, not them.......

outcast125 02-18-2002 06:54 PM

I personally prefere to have many fevers, not just the one, as then they never takover one wholely. It also makes for interesting dreams, I have found myself before now in a world crossed between TheSims computer came, Harry Potter's Hogwarts school seching for a ring bearing elven script, on a broomstick carrying a bow and arrow and a wand.

I think that that alone qualifies me for mad status let alone all ym other "problems"

the_master_of_puppets 02-19-2002 01:11 PM

I think im gonna post this Fans Day thing up as a New Topic...if ur 4 it then just put ur name down under that i guess....if we get enough people maybe we can make it offical!!!

Starbreeze 02-19-2002 03:23 PM

Wow! I'm scared! We filled up 2 pages of stuff we do to do with Middle Earth etc. and now we are thinking about a Tolkien DAY? Wow! This is better than I thought!

Glenethor 02-19-2002 03:41 PM

May I just point out that 'obsessive' is an adjective, not a noun? Only reason I know that is that someone walked into one of those 12 step groups...(HEY! WE NEED ONE OF THOSE! Well, some of us, anyways... and someone identified as 'Hi I am so and so and I am an Obsessive.' To which, someone in the peanut gallery replied an Obsessive WHAT!?

I may go to the movie for the 22nd time today. May. I can hardly walk, and I am thinking of getting on a bus for 45 minutes, and then sitting in a theatre for 3 hours? (rolls finger in circles beside left temple). I think I should just go crawl into bed...

You may own the BK Legolas doll,Elven-maiden, but does yours have dagger slashing AND arrow launching action?
Heheheheheeeee! Mine does! And, he looks exactly like the movie character!
If I dressed up for fanatics' day, they would ship me across the street to the mental hospital!

eh...when you're studying astrology you name the Silmaril as one of the brightest stars...

and

when your teacher asks you to recite a random poem the only thing you can think of is one of the songs/poems from LOTR...

and...
if you have to computers right next to each other you download desktops of movie scenes and simply sit there staring at the screen that's from my friend

Lush 02-19-2002 04:47 PM

I have a little blue star that a fortune-teller gave me hanging on my rearview mirror. The other day, I picked a friend up to go to dinner, and as we were pulling out of his driveway, he caught the star in his hand and said, "this is pretty."
To which I immediately replied: "Isn't it? It's the light of Earendil!"
...My friend just stared at me for the remainder of our drive.

Glenethor 02-19-2002 06:43 PM

What the heck. May as well hobble out to the movie. It may be gone next week.

Rose Cotton 02-19-2002 09:37 PM

Oooh! I gotta get me one of those! Nah, I'm just kidding, you can keep him, I'll go find my own elf

Starbreeze 02-20-2002 02:04 PM

Where do you get the figures from?

Aralaithiel 02-20-2002 03:20 PM

I ordered my Legolas from the Toys R Us website, which is run by amazon.com. He comes in a set of 4 figures, and you get Frodo, Lurtz, The Witch-King, and Legolas. I also got Arwen with Asfaloth - the horse's "galloping" action is a riot!
Yes, this adult still plays with toys! I refuse to conform to society! I will never grow up! Weird rules!!!!
