This just happened to me on my kindle fire. Was rerouted to adultfinder dot com. Browser is Amazon Silk. The Kindle is brand new, and Barrowdowns is one of the first websites it ever visited. It hasn't been active long enough to pick up a virus. This happened when I clicked on BOOKS.

Inziladun 12-26-2013 09:04 AM

It just happened again, while I was replying to a thread in The Books.

Just chiming in again to say that the admins are aware that there's an issue. I think some exxxtra code got inserted into a vBulletin script somewhere that's occasionally redirecting people. Thanks for all the info.

Coppermirror 12-27-2013 12:54 AM

Ah, I'm relieved that the redirecting glitch isn't only happening to me. I assumed it was a virus on my computer at first, and was worried when no amount of antivirus scanning could pick the problem up. I have assorted scripts blocked, so all I ever saw was a blank page. So they were adult web pages, eh? Condolences to those who got redirected to those while people were watching.

"exxxtra"

I get it!

Registration Problem

In addition to the Adult Friend Finder glitch, we are also having an issue with registering a new account. We have a nonmember with us who now wants to join, but the registration requires a Captcha image which is not showing up. This problem is happening in Safari on an iPhone, Chrome on an Android phone, and Firefox on a laptop. :(

Aganzir 12-28-2013 03:27 PM

And just saying that not just the forum but also the main site occasionally redirects to Adult Friend Finder!

The Barrow-Wight 12-29-2013 07:19 AM

Encaitare, I've turned the CAPTCHA off. Have your friend try again and see if the registration works.

Thanks!

Encaitare 12-29-2013 11:47 AM

It worked without the Captcha, thank you!

For some reason it seems to me that the second link I click after coming on the Downs almost always lands me on Adult Friend Finder - either the first thread I try to open after going on Active Topics, or a PM after clicking the Private Messages link on the forum front page. Does this sound familiar to anyone else?

Actually, yes. The first thing I usually click from the main forum site is User CP, to see what threads I'm interested have activity. How bizarre.

It's sporadic, too. I can go a day without it happening, then out of the blue there's a re-direct.

Adult Friend Finder has been superseded by a sjte with a name too explicit to post here...eww

The past few times I've been quick enough to stop the re-direct before it completed, but thanks for the extra warning.

Mithalwen 01-11-2014 01:21 PM

I managed to stop it before it loaded but address bar was far from euphemistic.:( I am not especially prudish but to have such things gatecrash is a bit..

Morthoron 01-11-2014 04:24 PM

The look on my wife's face was priceless when the Adult Friend Finder popped up as I was going to the Barrow Downs. I promised her I was not having sex with any hot elf babes. :D

Lately its pinged my anti-virus with an "attempted attack on your device has been blocked" message. So this will be my last post until I hear the issue is resolved and it's not good PR for any new members who try to join the site and then at some random moment get redirected,

I've heard that from one other person, though I have yet to experience it myself. My anti-virus log always shows "medium" threat attempts each period, so it may have happened and I'm just not aware.
I really hope that the malicious code can be found and removed. I agree that it could be very off-putting to prospective or actual new members.

Inziladun 01-18-2014 05:53 PM

I don't know if it will help, but this is where I was just now almost re-directed. I caught it before the page loaded.

Inziladun 01-18-2014 06:06 PM

As something of a bright spot, I checked my anti-virus log and there's no corresponding hit. Maybe I've been too quick (or more likely, lucky).

Galadriel55 01-23-2014 06:16 AM

I haven't got a single redirection, but lately my computer is popping up some "website blocked" icon whenever I open the Downs. I think it calls the spam website a "blackhole website", but I have to double-check.

Same happens to me just about every day on my laptop. I've stopped trying to access with my Kindle. Same "blackhole" message, too. My laptop uses Norton., but my Kindle doesn't seem to have a dedicated security software. It's new, so I don't know for sure.

I use Norton at home, a different program on the work computer, and neither has given me any warning about the Downs.

BTW, I just saw a television ad for Adult Friend Finder dot com. Maybe this invasion is a surreptitious arm of a new advertising campagn? I wonder if other discussion sites are experiencing the same problem.

To me, spammers and telemarketers are of the same ilk. Someone having to go to such lengths to advertise any product or service should be given a wide berth.

Hey, Adult Friend Finder is gone!... Now it's Russian Brides...

That was completely not me. *whistles* No no, had nothing to do with it. *glances around anxiously* The weather is wonderful. *fiddles with a piece of paper*

:D:D:D

Mithalwen 01-25-2014 02:20 PM

Though the address is worse... not checking the downs at work...

Morthoron 01-25-2014 03:31 PM

I am waiting to be directed to the Hobbit Porn site. It will give new meaning to funny names like Bilbo and Bungo. :D

Mithalwen 01-25-2014 05:23 PM

And more to explain?

Bęthberry 01-25-2014 10:06 PM

MacAfee just blocked me from going to this very thread, when I clicked on the link to Mithalwen's post from the Active Topics page. Well, it wasn't this thread that I was being led to but something MacAfee didn't want me to see.

I got onto the thread safely from the thread topic "Forum Glitches" .

Aganzir 01-27-2014 12:56 PM

The Russian Brides are generally more attractive than the people on Adult Friend Finder though.

Yes, I've heard about those Ukraine Girls. ;)

I wonder if it's significant that re-directs are occurring now with multiple sites?

Now that I think of it, the Russian site could have been my fault as I posted a couple birthday wishes in Russian recently. My theory is that it takes any "relevant" information from the forum and redirects from the site based on that. I've never actually been redirected, so I don't know how randomly it's occuring, and when a website is blocked I don't see the name of the site.

Where would the Adult Friend Finder stuff have come from, then? This? :p

satansaloser2005 02-01-2014 09:43 AM

Hmmmm. I don't know if it helps the technomancers at all, but I don't believe I've ever been redirected on my iPad, and I know my phone has never taken me anywhere....unsavory.

Inziladun 02-15-2014 07:58 AM

I hesitate to say this, not wanting to jinx it, but I haven't experienced any re-directs for over a week now. Problem solved, or a temporary respite?

I was just thinking the same thing. I haven't got any messages for a good while now. Did the spammers capitulate?

Mithalwen 02-15-2014 10:21 AM

Nor have I. I even dared log on at work.

Aganzir 02-16-2014 12:47 PM

I last visited on January 27th, but haven't got any redirects today, so let's hope for the best!

Inziladun 02-23-2014 05:47 PM

Still all clear. I've noticed that the spambots, strangely absent during the re-direct business, are now back. Maybe it's coincidence, but if forced to choose, I'll take the bots.
