If I remember correctly, those people were leaving, not trying to get in.

well as you put it, "within its boundaries" then Luthien must fall into that too...as that is how she met Beren, by walking freely in its boundaries

Beleg's also the only one native to Doriath. As near as I can tell, those native to Doriath, and a number of those with connections (eg. Galadriel, Aegnor...) had no problems either. The Girdle was intended to hold off those King Thingol didn't want in his kingdom. All the Sindar were welcome there.

But I do agree that Beleg was an exception woodsman. Look at his tracking of Turin....

Я не знаю.

Lhunardawen was about to throw the gauntlet in Nilpaurion's face when he seized her hand. Leaning forward, he took the gauntlet, saying in a terrible voice:

"I consider your gauntlet as having been thrown, my sister, and I will return it wrapt round my analysis:

"Beren lived as an outlaw. Outlaws don't take baths (cf. Outlaws' Outlines, §17). Also, he passed through Nan Dungortheb without a horse. According to the ancient Ilkorin law:
"'Spider's lair, mother's hare:
If you pass without a mare
My bath soap thou wilt not share.'
"Clearly, this is a reference to a horseless passage of the territory between the spider's lare--I mean lair--and the hares of Melian, mother of Lúthien. Beren did not take a bath in Doriath.

"So when he passed through to my father's pad, he was dirty."

Just then a green hand came down from the heavens, plucking the Elf by the collar, and he was never seen again among the dead.

*awkwardnish!!!*

*everyone joins Lhun by throwing their gauntlets at Nilp for that ...statement*

Maedhros. He had a clear personality of his own, he was temperamentic (?), but still wise.
Finrod's also one of my favourites. He's a hero.

Aquarius the King 03-06-2005 03:15 PM

Maeglin. He's a dark, mysterious messed up character...the most insane of all the elves...Not saying I'd like to hang out with him...Just something eerie and resonant about his character...

Like Turin too...the most tragic of all the characters...

Finrod Felagund's got the coolest name.

Fëanor is hardcore. That being said, he reminds me of Hitler. Through charisma and speaking power and by touching on issues that get at the hearts of his audience, he is able to lead them on a radical course that involves the murder of members of their own society.

Este of Lorien 04-22-2005 12:24 PM

Finrod - loyal and wise
Maglor - nice, and he took care of Elrond and Elros
Maedhros - a good leader
Glorfindel - brave (and I like his golden hair - see my drawings at www.freewebs.com/lorien_cmi/ ) :D
Este an Irmo ;)

Hurin.

In his desperate plight I love him yelling "Aure entuluva" and also think of the power of will to not give into Morgoth after 25 plus years of captivity. And the greatest warrior that graced middle earth...Definately my favorite man

Amrod the Hunter 04-23-2005 06:07 AM

Feanor, because he has charisma,he is skilled in everything and he is a born leader. It
disappointed me that he died so quickly because i really liked him.
All of his sons are also special, but Feanor is still greater than all of them.

Morgoth the all powerful until he fell to his demise
