but some jokes shouldn't go that far. especially # 13 on the site. way out of line
Oh come on, the whole thing is filled with stuff like that.

I have to agree with Eomer on why the thread is still open, it's good for the link to the site but hasn't been worth a lot more lately...

I third that, this particular list has been discussed at least 3 times in my memory, if not more!

Enough is enough, people!

Alternatively, a few friends and I have been speculating whether the BW was a member of the PPC Board.

Is this true, BW? there's quite a few of us 'Downies...more specifically, Mirthies...there.

InklingElf 07-31-2004 03:26 PM

A parody -- yes that's agreed I don't think there' alot to be fired up about if you look at the web address: www.pointlesswasteoftime.com -- of course it would be a different case if it wasn't a joke but sometimes you guys HAVE to lighten up.

Morgul Queen 07-31-2004 04:21 PM

Yes, well, this place has been far too serious since M-e Mayhem was changed to mirth and we lost the guestbook. Some friends and I were discussing it a while back.

Gothbogg the Ripper 09-28-2004 06:20 AM

I have just seen this website and am filled with an odd mixture of rage, disgust and annoyance that has been left to cool for 5 minutes and put in the freezer, now I've composed myself and feel inclined to write about it, I know it's just a parody but it really annoyed me, I have a good sense of humour but this is just ridiculous.

Elessar Telcontar 09-29-2004 05:52 AM

Sorry to be overtly graphic but this is the sort of site that makes me want to violently spew my intestines.
Unfortunately I do believe that some people do not have the intellectual/ emotional capacity to understand a story so deep and moving as LotR and thus have to resort to what is effectively childish name calling...
This really does anger me to extreme levels

Eomer of the Rohirrim 09-29-2004 08:06 AM

I don't mean to offend but some people either have no skills of inference or just have not read this thread. I renew my call to close this thread because I think it is just getting silly.

If anyone does not understand what I'm saying or is in any way offended by my remarks then please, I urge you to go back and look at the site, read the entire thread and seriously think about it.

Encaitare 09-29-2004 03:44 PM

Come on, guys, lighten up! You may not find it funny but it's not meant to be taken seriously.

Why couldn't Bilbo have been played by Vin Diesel?
::chuckles to self:: Let's get Vin for the Hobbit movie! :D

And Eomer, I agree, this thread is going in circles, so I shall end now.

Eomer of the Rohirrim 09-30-2004 04:38 AM

Indeed, we need a younger Bilbo. Ian Holm is getting too old for all those adventure and danger scenes. Stick a wig on him (and force him to drink lots and lots of ale for 6 months) and Vin could do it. :D

tar-ancalime 09-30-2004 11:29 AM

ulterior motive?

Gee, Eomer, for someone who claims to want this thread closed, you certainly are doing a lot to keep it active! I suspect an ulterior motive--a morbid fascination with the unfortunate literalists, perhaps? :D

Eomer of the Rohirrim 09-30-2004 12:40 PM

No comment. ;)

the phantom 09-30-2004 03:48 PM

Thanks for the link. That was hilarious. :D

Everyone here in the computer lab was glaring at me a few minutes ago because I couldn't stop laughing. I was in the mood for something funny and that hit the spot!

Why didn't they take horses on their quest? Or even better, why didn't Gandalf's giant flying bird friend haul them into Mordor? Watch out, Frodo! All of your methods of transportation have been swallowed by the Dark Lord of the Plot Hole!
We've had discussions about that here on the Downs.

So Bilbo, who we are supposed to identify with as a protagonist, finds a piece of someone else's jewelry and just keeps it for himself? That's funny, because I would expect a good man to submit it to the local Lost and Found so it could be claimed by its owner. It makes me wonder if he bought that hillside house or if he was just squatting.
Ouch! That sure hurts the Baggins' good name.

Legolas shoots arrow after arrow at his enemies, and yet the number of arrows in his quiver never decreases. I guess elves have glands on their back that secrete arrows.
Of course they do.

Too many characters to keep track of. The dwarf was clearly only there as a token dwarf character to sell tickets to lucrative movie-going dwarf demographic. Lose him.
:D

Why, in part 1, is the black octopus creature painted as the bad guy when it attacks, when one of the fellowship had clearly been throwing rocks at it?
Hee hee! That's too funny.

Casting.

Why couldn't Frodo have been played by Christopher Walken?

Casting, II.

Why couldn't Gandalf have been played by Bruce Campbell?

Casting, III.

Why couldn't Bilbo have been played by Vin Diesel?

Casting, IV.

Why couldn't Strider have been played by a monkey?
:p

Also, everyone should check out Lord of the Rings vs. The Matrix vs. Star Wars. It's very entertaining.
