Ok, I'm taking a guess as I haven't read that part of the Silm yet, but I'm guessing...

Melian, Thingol, Beren,

Then a lot of stuff would work for the last one:
Elwing, Elrond, Elros, Elladan, Elrohir, Arwen, and, a long time later, Aragorn.

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 08-06-2003 11:35 AM

Not correct.

elven maiden Earwen 08-06-2003 11:41 AM

If Ivorwen hadn't persuaded Dirhael to let their daugher marry Arathorn then Aragorn wouldn't have been born

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 08-06-2003 11:45 AM

Perfection, Earwen. Stunning.

If ________ hadn't invited _______ for tea, the ___________ might have never gotten a _________.

Gwaihir the Windlord 08-14-2003 01:34 AM

If Gandalf hadn't invited Thorin for tea, the expedition might have never gotten a thief.

The last bit doesn't quite seem to clinch, though.

right story wrong answer. Very close.

Cathelm 08-14-2003 04:10 PM

Probably not right, but:

If Bilbo hadn't invited Gandalf to tea, the hobbit might never have gotten a ring?

just a guess.

Manardariel 08-15-2003 04:51 AM

If Gandalf and the dwarves hadn't invited themselves for tea, the expedition might have never gotten a thirteeth member.

kinda the same thing.....

elven maiden Earwen 08-15-2003 10:05 PM

nope and nope but Cathelm was right on the first two.

Manardariel 08-19-2003 04:17 AM

BILBO may have never gotten....
-money/ treasures
-long life

FRODO may have never gotten.....
-a ring
-nazgul poisoning (eventually)
- an adventure

GOLLUM may have never gotten....
-rid of the ring

THORIN AND THE DWARVES may have never gotten....
-their kingodom back

all I can think of for now....

Gil-Galad 08-19-2003 10:14 AM

Gil-Galad

elven maiden Earwen 08-19-2003 01:44 PM

Nope. Didn't think this was that hard. But you were right on Thorin and the dwarves.

Cathelm 08-19-2003 01:51 PM

Probably still not right, but I'm trying to get closer...

If Bilbo hadn't invited Gandalf to tea, the dwarves might never have gotten a burgler/14th member.

elven maiden Earwen 08-19-2003 10:57 PM

Ahh but you are correct. Great job

Cathelm 09-04-2003 10:09 PM

Probably simple, but:

If the Orcs hadn't met up with _____'s company, then _____ and _____ wouldn't have escaped and met _____.

Mariska Greenleaf 09-05-2003 09:50 AM

Eomer
Merry
Pippin
Treebeard

Cathelm 09-05-2003 06:41 PM

Very good, Mariska! You're up.

Evisse the Blue 09-23-2003 12:31 PM

*bump* Mariska, I know you're here somewhere!

Mariska Greenleaf 09-23-2003 12:47 PM

I'm here allright...
Sorry, forgot about this...

"If_______hadn't saved the_________ in the Old _________, __________would have probably killed them."

Mithisilien 09-23-2003 08:57 PM

Tom Bombadil
Hobbits
Forest
Old Man Willow

Mariska Greenleaf 09-24-2003 03:47 AM

Perfect!

Gil-Galad 11-04-2003 07:42 PM

*bump*

The Perky Ent 04-12-2004 09:23 PM

This looks cool, and i love giving life so...

*****REVIVE*****

The way this game works is you give a sentence with something blanked and someone has to give the answer in the blank

Example: Is ____ never found the ring, he wouldn't have 9 fingers.

The answer would be Frodo!

Looks good? Hope so! Anyways, here's the new question:

If Gondolin hadn't fallen, Frodo wouldn't of received _____.

Ask away! should be easy!

The Saucepan Man 04-13-2004 05:13 AM

Sting.

The Perky Ent 04-13-2004 09:59 AM

But of course!

The Saucepan Man 04-13-2004 06:32 PM

Thank you, Perky. :)

If Thorin hadn't spoken with ________, then ________ would not have fought at the Battle of Five Armies.

Should be fairly easy ...

Fingolfin II 04-14-2004 12:58 AM

Gandalf, Bilbo.

The Saucepan Man 04-14-2004 11:29 AM

True, I suppose, but not what I'm looking for. :p :D

I'll edit the question to make it a bit clearer ...

Evisse the Blue 04-14-2004 02:34 PM

Gandalf, Beorn?

The Saucepan Man 04-14-2004 04:31 PM

Doh! Another possibility, but not the one that I have in mind.

The first blank is not Gandalf. After all, it is quite likely that the Battle of Five Armies would not have taken place at all if Thorin had never spoken to Gandalf.

Firefoot 04-14-2004 06:11 PM

Roäc, Dain?

The Saucepan Man 04-14-2004 06:24 PM

But of course. Onwards, Firefoot. :)

Firefoot 04-14-2004 06:43 PM

Thanks!

If the _______ of _______ hadn't seen the smoke, _______ and ______ probably wouldn't have been captured.

Bombadil 04-14-2004 08:39 PM

Men, Gondor, Frodo, Sam

Evisse the Blue 04-15-2004 03:58 AM

Just to be picky I'd say the Rangers of Ithilien instead of Men of Gondor :)

Firefoot 04-15-2004 04:55 AM

Evisse has it.

Evisse the Blue 04-15-2004 07:44 AM

If _______ had done as instructed by _______, ______ would have set off earlier on the quest.

The Saucepan Man 04-15-2004 09:47 AM

Barliman Butterbur
Gandalf
Frodo

Evisse the Blue 04-15-2004 03:26 PM

Correct!
