Mithalwen: For some strange reason, I have the same mental image of you as mark12_30... But since she mentioned that she and Mister Underhill are twins...

Not quite blonde or blue eyed.... motherly? .. have to be in the right mood.... laugh ..not for me to say :D

Fordim and davem: You are twins in my imagination. Perhaps you should check your family trees. You might be related to each other...and to Tolkien (at least that's how I see it). Oh, and a pipe always comes to mind.

I am afraid I do imagine Fordim as Dr Jones ... but in lecturing mode rather than adventuring... so harris tweed and specs rather than desert boots and bullwhip..

Mental image of Davem, utterley destroyed by the information about the Yorkshire accent. Now vaguely imagining Ted Hughes.

How about specs and desert boots?

(I'm too cool for harris tweed, but not cool enough for the bullwhip.)

Mithalwen 11-14-2004 12:54 PM

But not cool enough to know that tweed is back with a vengeance? And the entire output of the weavers is being guzzled by a certain desginer brand ;) . Hmm I guess it is a less disturbing combo than harris tweed and bullwhip...

And why does Indiana's vision suddenly become 20/2o when he is on a mission anyway?

 Don't worry, my father is obsessed with Indiana Jones. I don't know how many times i've seen the triology... maybe too much. But, i do like the one where he's in India.

He ditches the glasses, Mith, because he no longer is sitting in a cramped, dark, tiny, and non-conducive-to-work office, grading papers from his adoring students. That and he looks more adventurous when he's not wearing the glasses. ;) Just had to defend my namesake...

My next visionary attempt:

Starjewel: As has been said, the word that immediately comes to mind for you is "shiny". You have shimmering, long black hair, that when not cascading down your back, is twisted up into elaborate (and still shiny) curls and braids. Your eyes are bright green, bringing to mind emeralds in twilight. Your skin is pale, but with rosy cheeks, a la Snow White. I always see your lips shining with the help of oddly flavoured lip glosses. You tend to wear simplistic jewelry, not to say that it is not incredible. A single tear-drop shaped diamond hanging 'round your neck, the occasional silver circlet with... you guessed it: a diamond... dangling on your forehead. That sort of idea.

THE Ka 11-14-2004 01:39 PM

Boromir88: The color yellow or blue always comes into my mind when i see your name... very strange. Also i see car wheels and a green field. Brown clothing comes to mind, or brownish colors of objects such as walls... i really don't know why, but that's what i'm seeing.

Hope i'm not offending... i don't intend to. :(

Quote:

Morai, my name reveals that much, huh? And quite close, too!
Of course it does! There's something in a name you know, magical, yet forboding at the same time. Apparently your name must have been chosen well, for my guessing worked! :D ;)

Let's see, who falls into the realm of my imagination next....
Encaitare: I'm not sure on the gender yet (sorry!) so I'll try to make this as neutral as possible. You have much class, with a insane twist to it. When there are people to be found, you immeadiatley turn them into an audience for your unusual yet high grade antics. Unfortuneatly most don't appreciate your talent so your left to captivate your close friends.

Encaitare 11-14-2004 10:02 PM

Ooh, how I love having people try and describe me!

Quote:

Encaitarė, for some reason, reminds me of Eowyn.
Lhunardawen-- you're the closest in looks so far, being the only one to have gotten the blonde, Nordic look correct.

Lalwende-- isn't Sylvia Plath amazing? I just finished reading the Bell Jar. Wonderful book. You're right on the money about me personality-wise! I've never dyed my hair, though; my hair's so light I'm afraid it won't ever wash out. And I've chosen my major! As the glutton for punishment and overachiever that I am, I'm going to double-major in Music Performance and Education. And you're so right about the notebook bit. I love my notebook!

Morai-- I'm a she. ;) But you're pretty much correct!

Now for you all!

I don't really have a clear image of Lhunardawen yet, but the soulful Eowyn of her avatar always makes me think of her that way. However, I think she's said she looks nothing like Eowyn, so that shoots down that theory! I get the impression that Lhun has dabbled in writing, and she's a pretty good artist.

Lalwende, contrary to her avatar, does not look like Bilbo Baggins! I imagine her as having a nice cozy little house with lots of pictures on the walls. She has all sorts of unusual books and cool-looking things from museum gift shops and little stores she's discovered covering every flat surface. She always has a couple of candles burning. She likes gardening, and the crunch leaves make beneath her feet in the fall. She loves bright and sunny days, but appreciates the rainy ones too because they give her an excuse to sleep late.

Morai's name has a dark sound to it, so I imagine her as a slender girl (apologies if you're male!) with straight, dark brown hair. She's quiet around people she doesn't know, but is loud and funny when she's with her friends.

Mithalwen, I am still laughing over your comparison of davem to Ted Hughes. I wish I had thought of that--it is so good!

I think I need to do some 'stalking' in order to come up with some good hunches about some of the people here. Lhunardwen and Encaitare, beware! I promise, no digital cameras, just a 'digital imagination' ;)

Blimey! That's close! All apart from the candles; although I do have some, they are more for decoration as I'm scared of fire! Though I do have an open fireplace, which is great in winter. And though I do not look like Bilbo Baggins, apart from first thing in the morning, I'm about his size, heh.

I knew you would have notebooks! I used to keep them for years and have stacks of them full of writing by me and my old friends. As for Sylvia Plath, I could go on for ages; I specialised in her work at university (I'm a big poetry nut) - there's a lot more to her work than meets the eye. I think Lady Lazarus is my favourite, but Ican also recommend Ted Hughes' Birthday Letters, apart from being marvellous themselves, as they shed a lot of light on her work from a biographical viewpoint. Sorry, I'm on the wrong board for this topic here, aren't I? ;)

You're right personality wise, but as for the looks, not quite. I did want straight hair for a long time, but it looks quite strange when straightened since it's so thick and naturally curly. I am quite slender, so your right on that one. As for dark brown hair, not a chance. :p

Lalwendė: I'll cheat by adding in a few things from your last post. As you said, your a big on the short side, and you're slightly plump, but it only makes you look healthier. You have brown, short, springy hair that exists as a mop on your head. There's always a sparkle in your chocolate colored eyes. I did a report on her, just a month ago, for English class. Reports on dead american poets...we made up tombstones, and stuck them on the wall...methinks my english teacher is a bit morbid sometimes...(but what does that make me...? I asked specifically for Sylvia Plath, rather than be assigned someone... I've been fascinated ever since I randomly found a magazine article on her last year, read it, was depressed for a week...)

Anyway, I've not yet read the Bell Jar, but I have read lots of her poetry.

Ok...on topic now...

Lalwende, in my mental image, does look a bit like Bilbo...from a distance out of the corner of your eye. She has the same colour hair, curly and shoulder-length. Her eyes are brownish hazel. She's a bit chubby, but in a very cute way, like a teddy bear. She's always smiling, often a bit mischeviously.

StarJewel 11-15-2004 10:15 PM

Interesting...people have both black and blond going for my hair color. Personalitywise, however, you guys hit the mark.
I am actually blond, with blue-grey eyes(thought I do like to wear green color contacts). I wish my hair were curly, but, alas, its straight as a stick most of the time. Feanor-good job on the jewelery I wear. You hit the button, mellon nin.

Basically, for me, cross a Goth with Galadriel and your in the general ballpark.

Lalwendė 11-16-2004 04:16 PM

Mithalwen, you've inspired me to plumb new depths of surrealism. Imagine if all that you had to go on in order to play this particular 'game' were three clues:
Someone you sound like,
Someone who was born near your birthplace, and
Someone who could be said to be 'symbolic' of your county/state?

Well, you could conjure up some truly frightening images if you think about it. For me, you might get:

Someone you sound like - Caroline Aherne
Someone who was born near your birthplace - Marc Almond
Someone who could be said to be 'symbolic' of your county/state - Fred Dibnah.

I think I shall sleep with the light on tonight, this has frightened me more effectively than any of the vivid imaginings of Bosch, Sam Raimi or Mervyn Peake. ;)

Son of Nśmenor 11-16-2004 06:03 PM

Rimbaud

Rimbaud is a man of average height and build. He doesn't dress fashionably - he dresses perfectly: neatly pressed shirts and slacks, jackets always perfectly fitted and suited in make and hue to the season. He may wear slender gold-framed glasses for reading, but prefers not to. His hair is grey-brown, straight and fashionably not-quite-perfectly-kempt. He always walks at a brisk pace, with an air of confidence, and his face in its natural state is expressionless, save for a subtle glint of thoughtfulness in his grey eyes. He has a charming half-chuckle which he is wont to use when he finds a story or joke half-amusing, but reserves a loud, hearty laugh for the finer jokes and moments shared with friends.

Feanor of the Peredhil 11-16-2004 06:49 PM

Someone you sound like: Claire Danes
Someone who was born near your birthplace: George Eastman
Someone who could be said to be 'symbolic' of your county/state?: Rudy Giuliani
Oh dear. I don't see these things as being particularly descriptive of me.

Encaitare 11-16-2004 07:08 PM

Someone you sound like: I'm not really sure... I've been told I can do a "Paradise City" that sounds like Axl Rose... :D
Someone who was born near your birthplace: Jerry Seinfeld
Someone who could be said to be 'symbolic' of your county/state?: I'm gonna have to go with good old Rudy Giuliani too here

Why are all my answers men? Argh... hope this doesn't cause more gender confusion!

Hmm, I don't remember you saying that, but it is quite accurate. Although I don't have a pair of boots persay, I do love wearing big stompy dress shoes. (Only when I am going to a special occasion or church when I happen to be wearing a dress or skirt.) In fact, a couple of years ago, I wore big stompy boots, black ones I think to the Downie Awards and the Barrow Downs 3rd Annual B-day party, at least I think that was the year.
Quote:

Uh oh, this is quite scary:
Someone you sound like: Uh...when I sing Enya or Michelle Tumes, when I talk, the voice actor of Terra from Teen Titans, as for my accent just about anybody in a movie has mine, especially skaters/sufers.
Some who was born neary your birthplace: A child of a prostitute EW!
Someone who could be said to be 'symbolic' of your county state?
County: Democratic Politicians such as Tom Kitzhauber (can't stand him)
State: A hippie (possibly someone like Elton John or Julie Andrews) or a caffine addict.

Well, since Bethberry was considering trying to describe me, I think I'll try my hand at the same for her. Hmm...

Bb seems like a very dreamy sort of person, who, when in the passenger seat of a car, sits and stares out the window contemplatively for much of the time. She loves poetry and all sorts of literature from way back when. As an RPGer, she's very creative and probably loves telling stories. I see her as short and smiley (actually, the first thing that comes to mind is a cherry, but I doubt that's how you look, Bb ;) ), a generally happy person. She has very friendly eyes, probably green or brown, or somewhere in between, and when she wears her hair up little wisps are constantly falling into her face. She likes to wear warm fuzzy sweaters and comfy shoes, and for some reason it seems to me that she has a favorite belt that she wears nearly every day.

Blasphemy!!!!!!!!

Who is Tom Osborne???!!!

Well.... he was the coach of the Nebraska Cornhusker football team for twenty-five years and retired as the winningest active coach in 1997 after winning the national championship for the third time in four years. Nebraska won at least nine games and went to a bowl game every year under his leadership (something no other team has done).

Off the field he and his wife were the nicest people you could hope to meet. He was always working for kids and donating money.

He now represents Nebraska in Congress. Here's a link to his Congressional site.

Yeah, Coach Tom never lost to K-State.

Come to think of it, he never lost to Kansas either.

He went 50-0 against teams from Kansas.

K-state finally broke through after Coach Tom left, but we will be beating them again soon (once coach Callahan's recruits start arriving- Solich was decent coach but he really let recruiting fall off).

And Kansas... what can you say? Thirty-five years in a row.

Well anyway, Estel, at least K-State can say that they beat us in baseball... oh wait... we always beat you in that too. Umm... track? no... volleyball? no.... boy... you'll have to give me a bit... I'm sure I'll come up with something to make you feel better... maybe...

Eomer of the Rohirrim 01-15-2005 09:24 AM

I have gained a few new impressions of some Barrowdowners since I last posted on here. All three have been guessed at in past pages; but I think that my images offer a credible challenge to them.

Boromir88: A tall, happy chap with slightly buck teeth. He has long brown hair which is parted in the middle and always looks fairly neat. He wears a red cape with golden stars sewn into it. He is also a conjurer, thus he carries a magic wand. He skips around in a 16th century English jester kind of way. He has the uncanny ability to disappear from dangerous situations.

Lalwende: She barely has a physical presence; I imagine her as a wisp of purple smoke. She has a calming influence over all people, not unlike that of horse tranquilisers, thus she is always brilliant to be around.

Mithalwen: is Amelie.

And for those of you still following debates from about 10 pages ago, I have decided that The Only Real Estel does not actually exist. It's the only logical explanation for the difficulties. ;)

You're right on about the hair... Think female Robert Smith. I love backcombing :D .

Ok, here's some...

Fordim: A mischevious character of about medium height with a love of bringing up the past. Dark coloured hair possibly? Eyes are a color that can be reconized, but are possibly rare? Intellectual type.

Elennar: I've always seen you as having some colour of brown hair but, definately not mousey brown. Tall for age possibly?

I really am horrible at this. Oh well! Everthings fine with me except the whole 'blonde' thing...

I agree for the most part, except I think her color is most likely pale blue, because I find that color more calming.

Eomer of the Rohirrim: I apologize if you have already fallen victim to my imagination and description. If not, here it goes: I see you as Eomer, except with some "slight" changes. You still have a beard and a gruff voice, but short blonde hair. Instead of a serious glare in your eyes you have a mischievious glint. Since this is a modern century, you have a mean looking motorcycle as your "noble steed" instead of a horse.

Horse tranquilisers?! I don't know what to say... :p I am wearing purple today (and pyjamas 'cause I've eaten too much) and I have also smoked far too much so being like a wisp of purple smoke might not be far wrong. I used to imagine Phantom as a ringwraith, flowing black robes and all.

Now Phantom is a ringwraith wearing a white phantom-of-the-opera half-mask that shows from inside the hood.

But when Phantom jokes, Phantom morphs into a Jawa.
