Wow a correct answer!

What did Beorn say that gave the goblins some credit?
Sorry if thats a little confusing - it was the only way I could see to say it.

NightKnight 05-30-2004 05:13 AM

That they can count?

Kath 05-30-2004 12:08 PM

Yep

NightKnight 05-31-2004 12:32 PM

They're not totally stupid then. ;)

Why did the eagles help Bilbo, Gandalf and the dwarves?

Morsul the Dark 05-31-2004 12:35 PM

alright i think i know

alright hmm........my god i need to reread that darn book......gandalf was the friend of the eagle lord.......and had done something what was it lol........well at any rate the eagles were in debt to gandalf?

NightKnight 05-31-2004 12:36 PM

Well, what had he done? You need to be a bit more specific...

Morsul the Dark 05-31-2004 12:43 PM

hmmmmmm......... thinking.......somehow this thought stays in my mind.......he watched over the eagle lord's nest?

NightKnight 05-31-2004 02:07 PM

Nope.

Kath 05-31-2004 02:47 PM

Ok time for a guess

Gandalf saved the life of the eagle lords child?

Ophelia 05-31-2004 04:03 PM

Quoting the book : ".. he had done the eagles a favour and healed their lord from a wound made by an arrow."
Did I get it right ?

OpheliA

NightKnight 06-01-2004 08:48 AM

You certainly did, Ophelia. Please continue. :)

Ophelia 06-01-2004 01:39 PM

Okies , here I go ...
What did Bilbo call Beorn before meeting him ?

Ophelia

Firefoot 06-01-2004 01:46 PM

A furrier?

Ophelia 06-01-2004 03:03 PM

Yes , but that`s not all . I`d like to hear all of it :p

OphElia

Firefoot 06-01-2004 03:08 PM

Okay - "What! a furrier, a man that calls rabbits conies, when he doesn't turn their skins into squirrels?"

Ophelia 06-02-2004 01:39 AM

We have a winner ! Firefoot - you`re on ;)

Ophelia

Firefoot 06-02-2004 05:05 AM

Thanks!

In the Goblin caves, what shattered Bilbo's hopes completely?

Morsul the Dark 06-02-2004 07:06 AM

that he was all alone and couldn't see in the pitch black

Firefoot 06-02-2004 09:49 AM

No

Ophelia 06-02-2004 11:52 AM

Could it be because of the fact that he found his pipe aswell as the pipeweed but did not find any matches ?

Ophe

Firefoot 06-02-2004 01:22 PM

Yeppers.

Ophelia 06-02-2004 02:30 PM

Yaaayies !
The next question :
name the possession of Bilbo which he possesses on the account of his poor memory .
Good luck !

Ophelia

Firefoot 06-02-2004 03:59 PM

His Engagement Tablet

Ophelia 06-03-2004 10:27 AM

*Applause*

You have got it again !
And once again Firefoot is on !

OphEliA

Firefoot 06-03-2004 04:06 PM

Thank you.

How many dragons are drawn on Thror's map?

luthien-elvenprincess 06-03-2004 05:02 PM

Two dragons?

Firefoot 06-04-2004 05:49 AM

Yep.

luthien-elvenprincess 06-05-2004 10:01 AM

At one point in the story, Thorin could only be identified by his golden chain and by the color of his dirty and tattered sky-blue hood with its tarnished silver tassel. Where was Thorin at this point in the story?

Firefoot 06-05-2004 10:29 AM

It was when Bilbo had just let him out of the barrel after floating down the river.

luthien-elvenprincess 06-06-2004 04:15 PM

you are right

Firefoot 06-07-2004 05:17 AM

What two things did Bilbo notice about Balin when he came to visit?

Ophelia 06-07-2004 08:58 AM

Hmmm .. Let me see ... Could the answer to this question be : Balins beard had grown several inches longer and his jewlery adorned belt had got more splendid (sorry for the bad translation but it`s hard with having a badly re-translated book) .

-+Ophelia+-

Firefoot 06-07-2004 12:30 PM

Very good.

Ophelia 06-07-2004 12:34 PM

Thank you !
I have to think of something harder ...
What was one thing in cooking that Bilbo did not know how to do ?

Ophelia
-------------->

Mithalwen 06-07-2004 01:29 PM

Was it to light a fire without matches?

Ophelia 06-07-2004 01:35 PM

Sorry , but there was a more specific thing . But a nice try ;)

Ophelia

Orcrist 06-07-2004 08:15 PM

To cook without anything to cook?

Ophelia 06-08-2004 11:23 AM

Nice one and as true , but still no . It seems like this question is too hard , so I`ll give you a hint : it`s something about meat .

-Ophe-

Orcrist 06-08-2004 01:16 PM

He can't make muttin taste any better than it does?
What chapter is this in?

Ophelia 06-08-2004 02:10 PM

Well with answers like these we`ll never get anywhere . And telling of the chapter is not going to be a quizz anymore . But if after reading the following hints you shall not find it , I`ll have no choice but to tell the chapter .
The hints :
*the one thing Bilbo couldn`t do was done by the Dwarves ;
*he couldn`t do this thing because he just had never done that and wasn`t used to do so ;
*by that time he had never called Beorn a furrier but has already "burned his tale".

I have made it obvious as obvious as I could . Who ever gets this one right gets a medal from me .

Ophelia
