I can guess quite a lot, but I don't think I have read this...

It's from the Wanderings of Húrin, Volume XI
'S--ll/ I/ be/ -r---e-/ be--re/ -/ r-bble/ --/ ----(-)-en/ -it-/ -etters/ ---n/ -e/ t-/ -e-r/ ---t/ -e-t-/ t-e-/ -ill/ -i-e/ -e/? I/ -ill/ sl--/ --sel-/ -irst/, i-/ --/ --n-s/ -re/ le-t/ -ree/.' |
Thank you for the hint. :) then I guess it must be wood-men before whom he is dragged?
O please |

Who knows? ;)

I've never read that book, but is it ok if I guess?
I would like an "f" |

Sure it is, though having read it is an obvious advantage. ;)
Welcome to the thread! :) 'S--ll/ I/ be/ -r---e-/ before/ -/ r-bble/ of/ -oo-(-)-en/ -it-/ fetters/ --on/ -e/ to/ -e-r/ ---t/ -e-t-/ t-e-/ -ill/ -i-e/ -e/? I/ -ill/ sl--/ --self/ first/, if/ --/ --n-s/ -re/ left/ free/.' |
The f's I had already all guessed and therefore not asked for them.
Here's what I got with some more guessing: "Shall I be dragged before a rabble of wood-men with fetters upon me to hear what death they will give me? I will slay myself first, if my hands are left free." |
And that is correct. :)
|
Thanks! :) Must read that some time in the near future, though it is very depressing!
(A friend recently lent me a CD rom with the HoME on it and I copied it! :D ) "---/ -------/ ---/ --/ ----/ -----/. -/ ----/ -----/ --/ --------/ --/ -------/ -----/ --/ ---/. ---/ -----/ ---/ ----/ -----/ ----/ ------/ -----/ --------/ ---/ ----/ ---/ --/ ------/ ---/ -----/ --/ ------/." |

Completed after nearly three years!
"The kingdom now
is mine alone. I will allow no spilling of kindred blood by kin. But bread nor rest shall find herein these brothers who have set at naught the house of Finrod." Orodreth, now King of Nargothrond after the death of his brother Finrod, deciding what to do with Celegorm and Curufin. ('The Lay of Leithian', Canto X, lines 2896-2901, The History of Middle-earth: III. The Lays of Beleriand, p. 260.) |
Yay!
Absolutely correct, Faramir ! :)
I never expected anyone to take this thread up again after all this time, and I'm not sure if it's worthwhile to post a new quote now. It's been a looong time since I looked into HoME, and it doesn't look like anyone else is interested... Macalaure is too busy nowadays, I guess. |
A thought
Thanks for getting back to me on this, Guinevere!;)
I did have a new quote prepared; but I, like you, wonder if it's worth while posting it in this thread, due to the lack of interest.:( I'm thinking of posting it in the main thread, which has, I understand, taken more than just quotes from LotR. |
