The Lord of Chaos 11-06-2004 04:02 PM

Welcome to The Barrow Downs. That post of the FAQs actually answered my question of yours, newcomer. So, we are being reincarnated so to speak?

(I apologize for calling you "newcomer", but that name of yours is a bit hard to spell and, call me lazy, but I hate looking back and forth.)

Nonetheless, welcome.

Gorgonzola 11-06-2004 05:39 PM

random. Hello Im a newcomer... :)

Visit this site, its good. HC

Nimrodel_9 11-06-2004 05:52 PM

I`ve been there, Gorgonzola. I am a HP fan, but I am obsessed with LotR.
Anyhoo, welcome to The Barrow-Downs! Tis an exellent site! :D

Welcome, Gorgonzola and Lhunithiliel! (simple solution to that hard-to-spell name problem, Lord of Chaos: copy and paste!:D)

Hope you all enjoy being dead.

Cheers!

The Lord of Chaos 11-06-2004 05:57 PM

Harry Potter was ok. I much liked the books, they were fun. The movies...well let's just say...there will be no movie that is made after a book as good as The Lord of the Rings, in my opinon.

Welcome to the Barrow Downs!

Elennar Starfire 11-06-2004 07:35 PM

It has been far too long since I was here to welcome newly-deads to our mouldering barrow. Welcome, all. You'll get used to the worms tickling you after a while.

Witch-King 11-06-2004 08:27 PM

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! I'm back. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Feanor of the Peredhil 11-06-2004 09:55 PM

Welcome all, to the most wonderful Barrowdowns. May your stay be prolonged and educational, as well as... FUN. If you are into the craziness, dig your way over to Mirth. A Bookworm? Tunnel on over to the Books Forum. Movies fan? We've a Movies section!

Yes, yes... I do love this site. Something for everything really. Once again, welcome to all "newbies", have fun, and if you have any questions, check the FAQ, or PM someone... most of us "oldsters" answer PMs pretty derned quick.

Welcome to the downs Gorgonzola, hope you enjoy your stay here :) .

Lhunithiliel 11-07-2004 01:36 AM

The so difficult to spell name of Lhunithiliel

I know, I know....

It is difficult to spell!

But you can use the simple abbreviated form of Lhun.

Now, I please ask the Moderators and the Administrators here to excuse me, but though I have tried to find the answer to my previous question in the FAQ- section, and although I am more or less familiar with how VB3 works, I still could not find the option of the sub-forum-name in order to change it. I don't see it in the Profile or elsewhere.

But .... well.... after all... I'm in the Barrow-Downs now, am I not! So, I must be really 'newly deceased' to find myself here! ;)

And shall I say, that for a community of ghosts, you have a strikingly cheerful and pleasant welcoming team! THANK YOU once again! Hope to meet you soon in the discussion-threads. :)

Lhun

You can't change it...only your Post Count and good behaviour can...;)

Ancalagon-the-black 11-09-2004 11:53 AM

Newbie here. Tolkien fan for only a short time, liked the movies so much that I bought the books. I've read LOTR, The Hobbit, and im almost done with the Sil, but im going to have to reread that one again, and I have Lost Tales sitting on the shelf waiting to be read. Good autor, good movies, and this site seems friendly enough to post on. So with that said..

*waves* :)

Welcome to the downs mighty Ancalagon, keep reading ;) . I hope to see your views on many debated threads on this forum :) .

Oh, dear, ruts, fifteen days of exams!??!?!??!?!? I'd never survive. Thankfully I don't have to! (one of the many benefits of being homeschooled.:D)

Hiya people

My name is katie and i've been reading the lord of the rings and other tolkien works for about five years now. My friends at school all think i am obsessed but i'm not. i find reading a welcome release from people at school who keep trying to put me down. I managed to read the lord of the the rings for the first time in under twelve hours but none seems to believe about that apart from one boy at school who bet he could read the Order of the Pheonix faster than me. It took him six days to read it whereas it took me 5 and a half hours. he still owes me £10.

luv u

Welcome to the downs White lady, I hope to see you posting your views, opinions, or questions you have on Tolkien's works here on this forum.

What's so wrong with being obsessed, I tend to think I can get pretty obsessive about it at times :) .

Nice to see you here. Hope you have fun. When it comes to LOTR, this place is caviar wishes and champaine dreams! Anyways, hope you find this place a wonderful enivroment both mind and fan. :) Hope to see you later.

Encaitare 11-13-2004 09:54 PM

Hello and welcome, white lady! Twelve hours, that's pretty impressive. I admit my first read took me much more than that... perhaps I should time myself now and see how long it takes me. ;)

Hope to see you around the forums. :)

Lalwendë 11-14-2004 07:29 AM

Welcome White Lady! It's nice to see someone else from the North West - me too, although I have been in exile for 15 years across them thar hills. ;) 12 hours to read LOTR is impressive - I took as long as possible, always do if I'm really enjoying a book.

It took me from about 11:00 AM on Day One until around 3:00 PM on Day Two, but I was reading highly unconventionally and kept getting interrupted. Glad to see another avid reader (not to mention Harry Potter fan!) here.

Of course it does... that's because it is. I got a little scared on my first thread because burrahobbit replied to my initial post with "no". Not even an explanation, just that I was wrong. But we've all learned to ignore him (burra: ;) ).

Now that I'm done rambling, we can have Feanor's Final Thought:

WELCOME TO THE 'DOWNS!!

Noinkling 11-14-2004 07:15 PM

Hullo!

Just making my way about the site, and this seemed a logical first stop.

Imladris 11-14-2004 07:40 PM

Welcome Noinkling.

I wonder, does your name have reference to The Inklings -- the writing group that C.S Lewis and Tolkien joined?

Boromir88 11-14-2004 07:46 PM

Welcome noinkling, good to have you here on the forums, hope to see you posting sometime soon ;) .

Encaitare 11-14-2004 09:43 PM

Hi, Noinkling! :)

Hmm... your name probably is a reference to the Inklings... but it's so fun to say! Heh.

Noinkling 11-14-2004 09:55 PM

It is a reference to the Inklings.

My avatar is the pub sign for the 'Eagle & Child' (or The Bird and Baby as it's also known) where they met.

Amanaduial the archer 11-15-2004 02:11 PM

Noinkling - would that be no-inkling, or noink-ling. The latter is more fun to say, it must be said...One of those non-words that should be. Ahem. Welcome anyway, ye and your funky name.

White Lady - 10 quid on who could read a book faster?! You're making good money there, girl, I'm transfering to your school...;) Same as Lalwende, good to see another from the North West - can I ask where you're from? I'm Greater Manchester.

Newbie here.
Sounds oddly like an answermachine message...welcome to the Downs, Ancalagon. And yes, friendly is certainly the word - try The Shire as well: RPGing gives a whole new flavour as well.

Lhunithiliel - I am definitely going to have problems with that one...;) Joking, welcome to the Barrowdowns, whatever your name may be!

I hope to see a few of you in 'The Shire' maybe - RPGing is dangerously addictive but oddly satisfying, even if you haven't tried it before - I hadn't before I came to the Downs. Not...that I would ever plug...the Green Dragon Inn...*cough*

ps. Fea:

Good girl, you got there eventually ;)

Noinkling 11-15-2004 02:37 PM

Actually, I thought of it in terms of "No inkling!" - as in, "I'm clueless!"

InklingElf 11-15-2004 11:45 PM

Noinkling

hehehe I just happened to see your name -- and apparently new too! Welcome! :D

I happen to have an "Inkling" in my name too only with an "elf" in which case it's probably an "elf with an idea" -- what a strange phenomenon eh?

"No-inkling" is catchy -- I like it.

rutslegolas 11-16-2004 03:38 AM

Hi

Noinkling kind of funny name you got there, reminds me of some kind of sound.
Anyway Welcome to the Downs.

Sulier, I'm a new member here.New to the forum, but not to Tolkien's work.

Hope to make some new friends here, and learn more about Tolkien's work.

elronds_daughter 11-16-2004 12:24 PM

Welcome, Telperaca! The 'Downs is a great place, trust me!

By the way, I like your avatar!

Cheers!

Boromir88 11-16-2004 01:35 PM
