Is it Hurin Thalion. Hurin is the only one who killed a dwarf

Lindolirian 09-08-2003 02:59 PM

Well that's true, but this in One Thing in Common, not Odd Man Out.

Turambar 09-08-2003 03:08 PM

Troll slayers.

The Saucepan Man 09-08-2003 05:55 PM

Is it that they were all taken captive?

Pippin was captured, along with Merry, by Saruman's Uruk-Hai.
Hurin Thalion was captured by Morgoth's forces and taken to Angbad.
Tharkun was taken captive by Saruman and held at Orthanc.

Lindolirian 09-08-2003 08:59 PM

Saucepan Man fell for the trick! That was the answer that was to lead you away from the real one that Turambar gave. They all killed trolls. Proceed Master of Doom!

The Saucepan Man 09-09-2003 11:29 AM

Turambar 09-09-2003 01:28 PM

Túrin
Beren
Lúthien
Finrod

FingolfintheBold 10-03-2003 03:19 PM

They all fought evil creatures of Morgoth ( dragon, wolf, were-wolf)

Turambar 10-03-2003 04:08 PM

Nope.

Telchar 10-04-2003 02:00 AM

They all went to Menegroth?

Telchar 10-04-2003 02:01 AM

... or they were all held captive at one point?

Turambar 10-04-2003 06:23 AM

I posted this so long ago that I'm not even sure I'm remembering the answer correctly. But if I am, a hint for Túrin would be: Beleg.

Gwaihir the Windlord 10-11-2003 04:19 AM

They all underwent long journeys.

Turambar 10-11-2003 06:27 AM

No. The hints for Beren and Luthien would be . . . each other.

Gil-Galad 10-11-2003 11:01 AM

They all had great compansinship that woudl be the death of each other?

Turambar 10-12-2003 07:12 AM

HINT: Lennon-McCartney.

Gil-Galad 10-12-2003 08:10 AM

all of them had enemies that wanted too kill them?

NightKnight 10-23-2003 05:26 AM

Someone they loved died because of them?

Regarding the previous one, when did Hurin kill a troll? And Tharkun is Gandalf, right?

Telchar 10-23-2003 06:06 AM

I guess this is what you're looking for....
Quote:

Last of all Húrin stood alone. Then he cast aside his shield, and wielded an axe two-handed; and it is sung that the axe smoked in the black blood of the troll-guard of Gothmog until it withered
And Tharkun/Gandalf had some dealings with some three trolls in The Hobbit ;o)

Turambar 10-23-2003 06:42 AM

I think I'll give my answer in an attempt to revive this thread.

They were all song writers. Each of Beren and Lúthien wrote a song about the other; Túrin wrote a song for Beleg, and Finrod wrote a song for the first men, as well as the song of power against sauron.

Telchar 10-23-2003 07:04 AM

It was actually a good question Turambar and we should have solved it - wont you ask another ... to revive the thread as you say.

Turambar 10-23-2003 10:54 AM

OK but only if you help me with the Password.

NightKnight 10-23-2003 11:27 AM

Thanks Telchar, it sure was.

Turambar 10-24-2003 12:35 PM

Fingolfin
Morgoth
Fingon
Ungoliant

Telchar 10-24-2003 04:43 PM

They all passed the helkaraxe?

Gil-Galad 10-24-2003 05:24 PM

They all were betrayed some how

Turambar 10-25-2003 06:14 AM

Telchar got it. Geez I thought that would be harder.

Telchar 10-25-2003 01:16 PM

OK Thanks Turambar, was actually my wife that guessed it - it took her er full 20 seconds - lol - Enjoy this one

Luthien
Celebrain
Maeglin
Tuor
Arwen

NightKnight 10-26-2003 04:11 AM

Maeglin, for being the only one not to marry someone of another race?

Telchar 10-26-2003 06:37 AM

This is one thin in common, and secondly as a hint - race has nothing to do with it. Some might find it easy, but I think this one is in the tougher department

Gil-Galad 10-29-2003 06:30 PM

They all made a great journey too lands they have never seen, or through dangerous lands?

Telchar 10-30-2003 01:31 AM

Nope - it has nothing to do with anything they did

Estanesse 10-31-2003 08:44 AM

They were all, in one way or an other, protected by someone

Luthien – Huan
Celebrain – Her sons
Maeglin – Eöl
Tuor - Ulmo
Arwen – Her father

Telchar 10-31-2003 08:49 AM

nope - far off! THIS has to do with family

Gil-Galad 10-31-2003 09:55 AM

There parent(s) were greatly honured among elves and men?

[ October 31, 2003: Message edited by: Gil-Galad ]

Telchar 10-31-2003 06:25 PM

Nope - hint: look at family trees....

Estanesse 11-03-2003 11:31 AM

They are one big happy family

Maeglin is the son of Eöl who is a kin of Thingol.
Luthien is the daughter of Thingol.
Tuor is Earendil’s father who is married to the granddaughter of Luthien.
Celebrain is married to the Great-grandson of Luthien.
Arwen is Earendil’s granddaughter.

Telchar 11-03-2003 03:50 PM

Creative thinking But thats not it...

The relations among them means nothing!

Arothir 11-03-2003 04:03 PM

None of their parents were of the same clan
Eol was a Sinda, Aredhel a Noldo
Thingol an elf, Melian a Maia
Rian a Beorian, Huor a Hadorian
Galadriel a Noldo, Celeborn a Sinda/Amanya Teler whatever he is
Elrond a Half-elf, Celebrian an elf

Telchar 11-03-2003 04:08 PM

Also a very good answer - but still no cigar
