I've only gotten one negative rep. I don't know who it's from though. I have four positive ones though.
That has been one of my bigger grievances, if someone gives a negative rep, be "brave" enough to leave your name. The couple I have gotten only one has left their name (and I don't think I've given him a negative rep yet obviously because he doesn't deserve it). The others not only didn't leave their name, but some didn't even give an explanation. I don't hold grudges, and from what I've seen on the downs, nobody holds grudges.

Trigger happy

I'm a little rep-trigger happy. Most of the time I manage to get off a comment and signature, but at least ten times I've had a finger slip and repped before commenting or with only half a comment there. Ironically, I've only given one or two bad reps, and at least one of them had this happen. *blush* So it can happen by accident...

But it wasn't you Boromir. At least not in my case.

Lalwendë 02-02-2005 03:35 AM

And a warm welcome to Boromir88 on his arrival in Rivendell! Luckily Fordim wasn't here too long so there's still plenty of the old Gondorian single malt. Don't spend too long at the bar though, as SpM, davem and H-I could do with a hand with all that washing up, weaving and sweeping. I hear it's really hard work cleaning up after us ladies. ;)

Mithalwen 02-02-2005 11:43 AM

You three girls have been trashing the place then? I don't know.... Meanwhile back in Gondor .... some of us are having trouble sleeping due to the incesssant screaming from Eomer's fangirls outside..... :p

The Saucepan Man 02-02-2005 12:01 PM

Hail to thee thane of Rivendell ...

You'll not catch me undertaking any of those activities 'til Fangorn forest do come to Orthanc ... er ... wait a moment ...

Oh well I am sure the elves will lend you some marigolds.... and maybe a loom ... and if you are really lucky they might teach you embroidery, hair braiding or macrame.. :D

Elves don't use marigolds. Their hands are so dleicate that they merely skim the water in an ethereal fashion and hey presto, the washing up is done. Well, Elrond does actually have some fetching pink marigolds. And enough of this chatter anyway, while its been going on I'm still waiting for that cup of tea I was promised... ;)

Poor things, so terribly distressed and distraught over Heren-Istarion's announcement, and wailing themselves hoarse! Really quite sad for them.

But I suppose they'll cheer up on Eomer's trail. Nice of you to distract them, old chap.

I am reliably informed those are not marigolds - rather full length evening gloves - even the wisest of elf lords need to let their hair down sometimes...... or tuck it under a wig...

So should there be a stewards' enquiry into Fordim's change of form or is her merely going to be swot of the year ;)

Actually Helen, I think that is a different troupe who have already decamped to add their tears to the waters of the Bruinen. Don't persuade them to transfer their affections to Eomer or the volume will be deafening..... Eomermania...

Boromir88 02-03-2005 03:37 PM

Thankyou for the welcome Lal. I would have responded earlier but my labtop ran out of power, and I didn't bring the recharger, but now I'm hear? Where's my room? Someone get my suitcases! Escort me to my seat! (Don't you wish that you could take those rep points back now?) :p

Congratulations on your find Fordim! Can't get much better than the Undying Lands...

Fordim Hedgethistle 02-04-2005 01:02 PM

Thank you very much Carnimírië, and all the others who have wished me well, but I must say that it is at present somewhat lonely on this ship into the West. Cirdan is nice and all, but somewhat gloomy. Frankly, I can't wait for Saucy to come aboard so he and I can liven things up.

For the time being, I shall recline in a deck chair and sip cocktails. Perhaps I can get some reading done before things get too crowded hereabouts. . .

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 02-04-2005 01:09 PM

We could always solve your lonliness by bumping you right back to Rivendell, you know. *evil grin*

I wouldn't worry though, I suspect Saucy and davem will be joining you shortly.

My apologies for bringing debauchery to Gondor.

Mithalwen 02-06-2005 11:56 AM

It is OK Eomer ... at my age, I should be grateful for the opportunity ;) ... it is just that the spirit is willing but the flesh can't take the late nights so easily :(

Nilpaurion Felagund 02-06-2005 07:14 PM

Apologies.

That's nothing. I brought two alter-egos to Aragorn's court.

Apparently, Eldarion and Adam are on friendly terms . . .

Eomer of the Rohirrim 02-07-2005 08:31 AM

Remember when the Court was such a wonderful place, filled with wisdom and power?

Nilpaurion, we are certainly dragging it to strange new places.

How long before the Council launches open war upon us?

Knowing how much Elladan and Elrohir like to fight, and seeing that orc hunting has become rather scarce it might be difficult to stop them, Eomer. ;)

Mithalwen 02-08-2005 10:45 AM

Remember when the Court was such a wonderful place, filled with wisdom and power?

Well discipline was liable to slip once I became the longest resident downer at court...discipline was never my thing or the teaching might not have been such a disaster ...... think Sargent Wilson crossed with Joyce Grenfell "George ..don't do that.." and as for wisdom and power ... I am here for my skills as court jester ... but there are some mighty people here ...notably Mr Wight himself.... cross him at your peril...

Neithan 02-08-2005 12:28 PM

Congratulations Saucepan for making it to the Straight Road.

The Saucepan Man 02-08-2005 12:48 PM

Why thank you Neithan. :) I knew that it was around here somewhere ...

But I do find it rather ironic that my discovery of the road to the Realm which lies at the heart of Tolkien's world was made courtesy of a rant defending Jackson's efforts to make that world more "relevant and accessible" to the modern film-going public (and of course the kind Downer who responded positively to it despite disagreeing with some of the points made). :D

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 02-08-2005 03:05 PM

heresy

I got pushed to a new level posting the opposite opinion on that same thread, Saucy. ;)

But congratulations all the same.

Sophia

I got a neg. rep for accidentally double posting... that sucked. I also got one for making a geographical mistake. People are so critical.

Rather than getting worked up about it, I would suggest trying harder to make sure that your facts are right. That gets noticed as well, but in a more positive way, of course. Just make sure you don't make the same mistake twice, take it from me. :)

Fordim Hedgethistle 02-08-2005 09:08 PM

Welcome aboard Saucepan Man. Give us a hand with these deck chairs will you? The Steward's just been round taking orders and I took the liberty of asking him to bring you a pint of lager.

(Just make sure Cirdan doesn't see you drinking it -- he's a bit of a teetotaller.)

Encaitare 02-08-2005 09:56 PM

Congrats, Sauce. Enjoy your cruise. :p

Beleg Cuthalion 02-08-2005 10:26 PM

What are you guys doing? Congratulating you selves about your rep points?

I think they are just getting a bit excited about their trip ... not everyday you get to go to paradise :P ...... what they will do about Lalwende's disinclination to travel overseas I don't know.... ;)

Seems a little harsh ( especially for the double post ) but it doesn't actually constitute an abuse of the system. Personally, I think that it is more valid to use it for these technical infringements than as a way of punishing people who happen to disagree with you.

On the bright side, you at least got reasons so you shouldn't develop a repetitive fault :) and it may encourage you to raise your game to prove the critics wrong (ie get better not bitter). I assume that the downers who do choose to give neg rep, are intending to be constructive rather than vindictive so try to see it in that light. It is a serious board and sometimes we need a wake up call ( and I say that as a past recipient :( ).

Ainaserkewen 02-09-2005 12:38 PM

Is that it then? Or does the little reputation boxes go on from 11? If they do how far do they go? On and on until though their posts may be only few lines, there is still inches and inches of extra space for all these little green boxes. My goodness! Posters with 11 boxes are a little intimidating! I guess the only thing I know for sure is that you guys are doing something right.

Naaaaaaa. They just threaten everyone with giving them points or facing banishment. :D :D :D

On the more serious side, does the number of points that are added to your rep change randomly?

It depends on who has given the rep. The formula is explained somewhere in the thread if you look back. Basically the higher your own reputation and the longer you have been here the more points you get. However you have to reach a certain level before you rep has any points attached - otherwise you might create a different ID and rep yourself... :P

I see Davem was not far behind Saucy in finding the Straight Road. Congrats!

Mithalwen 02-09-2005 03:27 PM

Yes - it used to be a threeway struggle for the lead but I think Fordim's competitive streak surfaced... ;)

I likes boats. And you don't need to fork out for a passport, neither. Though as I am no Ellen McArthur, a quick pleasure cruise around the Bay of Belfalas would be enough excitement for me. ;)

Can you get Duty Free on the straight path? And if so, how much pipeweed do you get in your allowance?

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 02-09-2005 06:09 PM

Congrats davem!

Well deserved too. :) Enjoy your permanent vacation.
