Bar-en-Danwedh, because Dwarves lived there.
nope - 'tis a toughy
.... hmmmm if you could only see the light...
The Tower of Cirith Ungol, because it was the only place where the light of a Silmaril shone (through the water in Galadriel's Phial, held by Sam).
nope - four of them has something that the fifth didnt...
But you did well Finwe in picking up un the 'light' hint ...
Bar-en-Danwedh, because no hallowed light ever shone there.
Nope - and btw how do you define hallowed light in connection to the House of Tom Bombadil and The Prancing Pony ?
No idea, it was a wild guess.
For those who have seen ROK then there is a clue in the scene from The Tower of Cirith Ungol
you mean ROTK right? well, cirith Ungol was the only place that orcs and uruk-hai fought each other...(in movie)
... it still has to do with light
The Tower of Cirith Ungol, because it was the only place where Sting glowed (Sam had it). Sting was never in any of the other places.
nope...
if you want to find the answer - then pick up your books, find the descriptions of the 5 places and find what is concerned with light and how they are lit.... then it will probably be obvious... |
Meduseld was the golden hall, so i guess the light reflected off all the gold stuff in it...
Bar-en-Danwedh, because all the other four were lit by campfires or bonfires at some point.
Finwe is beginning to close in... It is concerned with how the places are lit inside - Bar-en-danwed is not it though.
Cirith Ungol was lit by torches. Bar-en-Danwedh was lit by lamps. Tom Bombadil's house was lit by a lamp and candles. The Prancing Pony was lit by lamps. Meduseld was lit by sunlight, so that's my anwer: Meduseld had no man-made illumination at the time of its description.
Symestream got it more or less... please continue
The precise answer was: Meduseld had no lamps hanging from the celling/roof - all the others had. |
Please bear with me for a short time while I come up with a decent question. Thanks.

This thread is closed due to its length. Symestreem, please open a new topic to continue with the next question.
Thanks. |
Odd PLACE Out II
Here we go, ladies and gentlemen:
The House of Stewards Osgiliath Bag End Meduseld Thingol's treasury I have gotten sick of people not reading the thread and therefore not including Thingol's treasury, so I am adding it myself. <font size=1 color=339966>[ 1:54 PM January 11, 2004: Message edited by: symestreem ] |
House of the Stewards: the only tomb?
too easy I guess.. |
That's not it, but that's not a bad guess.
Osgiliath- The only place taken over by orcs
No.
Ok then
I give up...this is not only a quiz for me |
Osgiliath is the only one not built on a hill.
True. But no.
The House of the Stewards is the only one without a river running in close proximity to it. The Water snakes right by Bag End on the Hill, the Snowbourne flows past the gates of Edoras, and Osgiliath is divided by the Anduin. The House of the Stewards is deep in Minas Tirith backed against Mindolluin.
And if that's not it, then I think after four good answers have been given, and they just don't seem to be the thing you're thinking of, it's about time for a wee directional hint, if you think you could manage. Not the rivers.
HINT: The location doesn't matter. The common thread is something that happened there. Go to the books and read about each place. You will need to go to the Appendices for one of these. <font size=1 color=339966>[ 7:18 PM January 11, 2004: Message edited by: symestreem ] |
Meduseld was only place retooken to live in
(osgiliath was used as a barricade) |
Nope, that's not it. Specifically, it has to do with something people did there.
Bag End, because at all the other places, the King (at one time or the other) and the royal family were driven out.
Nope. When was the King/royal family driven out of the house of Stewards specifically? Last hint: Thingol's treasury would also meet the criteria.
Ah, right, you have a point there.
Bag End, because no one brought or looked into a palantir there. House of Stewards -- Denethor Meduseld -- Pippin (it's stretching it) Osgiliath -- a palantir used to be there |
No palantirs in Thingol's treasury.
Ack, this is hard.
Maybe The House of Stewards because it was never visited by dwarves? (Although that may apply to Osgiliath as well, dunno) |
Was Osgiliath visited by Hobbits at all?
We can't know that for sure. Pippin and Merry were said to have visited Gondor a couple of times, so perhaps they went to Osgiliath. So no, that's not the answer.
Arvedui, your answer is a good guess... but no. |
