Umbar?

Heni 12-30-2003 08:48 AM

Should be Umbar yes...but maybe he was referring to Harad?

Mariska Greenleaf 12-30-2003 10:13 AM

That's not the answer I'm looking for...

Lord of Angmar 12-30-2003 01:49 PM

This one is tricky, but I shall take a stab at it: Assuming we mark South Gondor as part of the nation of Gondor, and assuming that Near Harad is not considered part of Gondor after the War of the Ring, then the southermost point would probably be the River Harnen.

Heni 12-30-2003 05:03 PM

That was clever! I thought of Anduin, since I didn`t knew if Southern Gondor belonged to the Kingdom of Gondor anymore. Harnen on the other side sounds more resonable.

Mariska Greenleaf 12-31-2003 01:43 AM

These are very good guesses, but still not the answer I'm looking for...

I'm not looking for a river.
Huge hint: Bay of Belfalas.

Telchar 12-31-2003 02:50 AM

maybe the southern cape of Tol Falas

Mariska Greenleaf 12-31-2003 02:55 AM

Absolutely right!

Lindolirian 01-11-2004 07:56 PM

Telchar, you're up!

Geography Grilling II

A new geography thread! Same as the last... Ask place names, distances, and really obscure stuff on Middle Earth geography, etc...

Also known as the "Place of Flowers".
It's the region at the centre of Tol-Eressëa, the lonely isle of the Elves of Aman.

Lindolirian 02-02-2004 02:58 PM

Nice.

NightKnight 02-07-2004 10:40 AM

*Bump*

Lindolirian 02-12-2004 03:35 PM

10 Days are up!

NightKnight, since you seem enthusiastic go ahead and take it, that is unless Mariska comes back just in time.

Mariska Greenleaf 02-13-2004 10:18 AM

Ha, I'm back!
And with a new question:

Where is Amon Gwareth, and what was build on it?

Miriel 02-13-2004 10:30 AM

It was the hill in the valley of Tumladen, within the Encircling Mountains, on which Gondolin was built.

Mariska Greenleaf 02-13-2004 10:33 AM

Needless to say this answer is perfectly correct!;)

Miriel 02-13-2004 10:51 AM

Thanks. :)

What, and where, was the dragons’ breeding-ground?

Lindolirian 02-13-2004 02:45 PM

The Withered Heath at the eastern end of the Grey Mountains, north of Erebor and the Iron Hills.

Miriel 02-14-2004 06:16 AM

Great, please continue.

Lindolirian 02-16-2004 10:29 AM

Next to what river were the Caves of Rodothlim, as they were once called?

Iaurhirwen 02-16-2004 01:50 PM

As the Caves of Rodothlim were the precursers of Nargothrond, then they would be situated next to the River Narog.:)

Lindolirian 02-22-2004 05:29 PM

Correct!

Iaurhirwen 02-24-2004 08:23 PM

Ok, this game is about geography, right? ;)

According to a map depicting the world in V.Y. 500, what are the names of the mountain chains that run to the Númen and the Róman of two great inland bodies of water, and additionally what are the names of the above bodies of water?

Lindolirian 02-25-2004 02:32 PM

Blue, Red, Yellow and Grey Mountains were west and east of Helkar and Ringol.

Iaurhirwen 02-25-2004 03:17 PM

Correct. Your turn.

Lindolirian 02-26-2004 08:44 PM

Take the distance from Hobbiton to Bree and add about 10 miles. Go that distance starting at the gravesite of Morwen's great-uncle to the west-south-west. What two rivers begin here?

Nirvana II 02-26-2004 09:05 PM

the Isen and the........i dunno

Nirvana II:smokin:

luthien-elvenprincess 02-26-2004 09:07 PM

River Malduin and River Teiglin?

Lindolirian 02-26-2004 09:13 PM

Nirvana... way off.
Luthien... You might be thinking of the wrong great uncle... just for clarification (since this is, after all, a geography thread) I'll tell you you it's Barahir's grave site.
Edit: Shoot! On the other hand you may have been folowing my bad directions. I said west, but meant east. Sorry for the confusion, I'll give it to you since those would be the rivers in the western direction. You're up!

Nirvana II 02-26-2004 09:16 PM

humph.....oh yeah the isen starts in dunland....my mistake
ill be watching you *Nirvana II turns into the Eye of Sauron for a moment*

Nirvana II:smokin:

luthien-elvenprincess 02-26-2004 09:57 PM

What and where was the Rainy Stair?

Mariska Greenleaf 02-27-2004 06:22 AM

The Rainy Stair, also known as Dimrost, was a cascading waterfall on the stream of Celebros, where it flowed down into the River Teiglin on the borders of Brethil.

luthien-elvenprincess 02-27-2004 06:39 AM

That is perfect, Mariska. Your turn.:)

Mariska Greenleaf 02-27-2004 07:18 AM

Thanks!

What and where is Morgulduin?

NightKnight 02-27-2004 09:48 AM

The valley in which Minas Morgul was located.

luthien-elvenprincess 02-27-2004 02:15 PM

Morgulduin is the name of the river that flows through Imlad Morgul.

NightKnight 02-28-2004 05:22 AM

Argh!

Stupid me! I got Morgulduin and Imlad Morgul mixed up! *Hits self with large stick*

Mariska Greenleaf 03-01-2004 05:45 AM

Yep, Luthien has it.
