LOL, Trippo. You're nick is cool- it's very inventive!

Hmmmm....wish I'd thought of that..*sits and sulks*

peonydeepdelver 06-21-2003 12:19 PM

I got mine from a hobbit name generator website, it's very good. It also says what part of the Shire you're from (I'm from Brockenborings). If I can find the link I'll post it here.

celeborn 06-22-2003 01:33 AM

hey

my nick comes from celeborn! i think he's very intresting!!

Alatariel Telemnar 06-23-2003 09:55 AM

I got my nickname from an Elvish name generator, but I looked up Alatįriel, and I found it was an ancient form of Galadriel...

Elrowen Greenleaf 06-23-2003 03:06 PM

I made mine up. I took parts of differant names from the books and the back of the Silmarillion and made up Elrowen. (Elf-horse-maiden)

Eladain Moruviel 06-23-2003 03:24 PM

I made mine up,i just thought it sounded cool.

Benbo 06-24-2003 02:13 PM

mine is a cross between my own name and bilbos...i bet that was hard to work out!

Alatariel Telemnar 06-24-2003 05:00 PM

Hmmmm, could your name me Bo?

Maylin 06-24-2003 10:45 PM

Maylin is one of the Ounya Se..( dont ask, only makes sense to me)

Elvanui 06-24-2003 10:58 PM

mine is supposed to mean "Elven Fair." I can live with that

Wolvaurynomir 06-24-2003 11:22 PM

Mine is actually a fangirl's nightmare. "Wolv" comes from "Wolverine" of X-Men fame. "Aur" comes from "Auron" of Final Fantasy X. "Ryn" is, obviously, from my online handle "Rynoah" and I think the "omir" part is pretty self-explanitory. It actually started out as "Wolveryn", evolved to "Wolvauryn" and I finally tacked on an "omir" for spite.

This also explains my signature: "For Gondor and the fallen, bub!"

Oddwen 06-25-2003 04:14 AM

Mine is a combination of elvish and English and it means 'odd maiden'. (Odd girl?) It just popped into my head while my brother and I were thinking of an online name for ourselves.

Manwe Sulimo 06-25-2003 05:55 AM

Heh heh heh....guess.

Alatariel Telemnar 06-25-2003 07:39 PM

Oddwen, hmm, I like it. Very original...

arianrod 06-27-2003 01:26 AM

Mine's from Celtic mythology: Arianrod was a goddess who, according to my book at least, was believed by some to be the moon itself. I absolutly love the moon (as you can see if you look at my website), I think it's the most beautiful thing visible from Earth, and love Celtic mythology, so it was a two-birds-with-one-stone kind of thing. And I think the name itself has a nice ring to it; kinda rolls off the tongue.

Feanor of the Peredhil 06-27-2003 09:48 AM

You could guess the origin of my name, but you'd be wrong, sort of. At the point at which I created it, I hadn't read the Silm yet, so I had no clue as to whom Feanor was. But my name came off a list of Elvish names and meanings:
Fiery Spirit of the Half Elven

Fea

Daisy Brambleburr 06-28-2003 03:53 AM

I got my name from a name generator. How original! I like the name Daisy and 'brambleburr' just seemed to fit. Very hobbitish. Actually, I'd like to change it to 'Hollin' but I can't boo!

Tinuviel of Denton 06-28-2003 03:56 PM

Daisy, you could reregister. At least you wouldn't have to make too many posts to get back to the rank you currently hold.

Daisy Brambleburr 06-29-2003 08:53 AM

What, do you mean get a different account? I kind of like being a 'haunting spirit'. Sorry, I'm confused... can't I change my name on the account I already have?

Estelyn Telcontar 06-29-2003 03:17 PM

Sorry, no - you can't change your registered name unless you start a new account.

Darby 06-29-2003 09:11 PM

Mine is just the name of a cat who used to own me a very long time ago. She had lots of personality. Not very LOTR fan-ish, huh?

arianrod 06-29-2003 11:34 PM

Funny how cats tend to do that, isn't it? After a few years you can't determine who owns who anymore...

Welcome to the Downs, Darby! It's great to see another cat lover among the dead.

Tarien Ithil 07-02-2003 11:57 AM

Mine simply means 'princess of the moon'. I just put to Elvish words together. I was pondering over a nick so I picked 'Tarien Ithil out of sheer desperation!

dancing spawn of ungoliant 07-03-2003 02:35 AM

mine is from BD's name generator.
it's quite interesting that i got "a spider - nickname" since i really dislike spiders *shudders* !

Elennar Starfire 07-03-2003 11:00 AM

I have a weird but true story to tell...(don't worry, it's short)

Before I learned any elvish I was thinking about how elvish names mean something (Legolas=greenleaf, for example) and I decided I wanted my name to mean starfire. I write fantasy sometimes and have trouble coming up with names for my characters, so whwnever I come up with a good name I write it down so I don't forget. one of the names I had come up with (and my favorite at the time) was Elinar. Then I found out that elen means star and nar means fire, so I put them together to get Elennar=starfire. I was sort of freaked out because I had already come up with Elinar and they're so similar.

Amrod the Hunter 11-28-2004 09:18 AM

I just love all sons of Feanor but Amrod and Amras have the shortest names and they are not madmans like some of their brothers. So I had to choose beetween Amrod and Amras.I chose Amrod and added "the Hunter" bacause he is a great hunter.

Morgul Queen 11-28-2004 02:40 PM

When I was new to this fandom I fangirlled the Witch-King and one day, while reading the books, I found that he was referred to as the Morgul-Lord, mis-read it as Morgul-King and thought 'A King has to have a Queen...Oooh I could be a Queen!' Hence the name...

I dropped the Queen long ago on the other sites and forums I'm on, but most people refer to me as Morgy now.

Actually, that's an weird one too. One of my mates on another site I'm on, The PPC Board...well, it was chat at the time, goes by the name of Morgoth and used to have the nick-name of 'Morgy'. When I became his minion (It was an all out war against Merry and Pippin and any who brought up the new-found and dreaded pairing of Varda/Morgoth and everyone was claiming minions. Varda was not impressed) he gave me the nick-name of Morgy because he hated it and wanted to torture me for not B-ZIP!-ing the hobbits fast enough.

*grins* Then we started calling him 'Melkie'.

So you really have a variaty of names to call me by. Morgul, Morgy, Morg, 'Hey You!', and 'What on earth do you think you're doing!!!'.

EarthBound 12-02-2004 12:50 PM

EarthBound has many meanings to me.....I'm a soil scientist and work closely with natural resource conservation . . . very tied to the Earth and all

I've always wanted to travel space (my first movie ever was StarWars at the drive-in Theater in 1977 in the front of my family's yellow Ford pickup...sigh) so with that in mind I heard the song Fly by Pink Floyd and there's the line about being an earth bound missfit....and I went Oh Yeah, That's Me!!

So...I'm tied to the Earth, for good or bad, but I try to save it each day (professionaly) for all of us... :)

But can you keep your eyes from the circling sky? :)

Elfchick7 04-04-2007 09:20 PM

haha. Um...I actually picked mine b/c I love elves. However, many of my friends and family are in LOTR and I didn't want them to know that I am, well, myself. So, since I hate being referred to as chick, I figured, "Hey, they'll never guess that." Thus it remains.

ninja91 04-05-2007 08:33 AM

I like ninjas. If only the Fellowship had a ninja, then he could easily and resentlessly (is that a word?) infiltrate Mordor and destroy the Ring with ease. If only...

Isabellkya 04-05-2007 08:39 AM

Isabellkya.. well I have always liked the name Isabella.. but I changed it a little bit for this character which I play in a game.. and I usually go by Miyu or in some cases Princess Miyu on other forums.. and I just felt like a change.

Urwen 04-08-2010 09:33 AM

Well,I ...like Urwen Lalaith. Since Lalaith is used...I chose Urwen.;)

deagol 04-12-2010 08:17 PM

I chose Deagol because he had the courage to befriend someone who probably didn't deserve to have any friends, and for that he was punished -- just as many of us are here in this world.

Estelyn Telcontar 04-13-2010 02:13 AM

An interesting choice, deagol, and a fascinating reason! Welcome to the Downs - hope you enjoy yourself here!

Morsul the Dark 04-13-2010 03:00 PM

Morsul Dark wind... the dark Redundant yes. The sixth Isatari Their number unknown

Morthoron 04-13-2010 07:19 PM

What is the reason for your nickname ?

The reason?

'Cos Billy-Bob jes' aint Medal-earthy enuff -- if'n y'all get mah meanin'.

*Smirks*

Ummm...no, actually 'Morthoron(TM)' was created for an online role-play story back in 1998. It seems to have stuck thereafter.

Ibrīnišilpathānezel 04-13-2010 09:14 PM

Reason... do names have a reason...?

Mine came about because I was sick and tired of joining Tolkien-based groups only to have anything vaguely akin to a name I liked long gone. And because on another forum, I had threatened to use Ibrīnišilpathānezel because it was one Tolkien derived name nobody else would use. If they could remember how to spell and type it. (I barely can, and then only in a word processor. Copy and paste, there's my motto. :D)

PrinceOfTheHalflings 04-14-2010 03:42 AM

I just chose it because it had a nice ring to it, if you know what I mean. Well, that and all the other good names were taken. It's not easy to find to find something from LOTR that hasn't been used.

There's no special significance to it though, I don't have a Pippin fetish. ;)

Blind Guardian 04-29-2010 02:02 PM

Because my favorite band is Blind Guardian and I was sick of Metal Fan. *sighs*
