You are too kind, ladies!

Nice to see you're both still here. :)

Oh my gosh... somebody remembered me!
I have to admit, it's been about three years since the last time I checked in.
What have I been up to since I joined this forum six years ago? Well, I've been busy finishing college (Bachelor in History), working for a mouse that wears little red pants, and just simply growing up and finding myself.
I still dearly love LOTR. Though at this moment my knowledge is quite rusty, so I plan to keep far away from the book forum at this time.

Though I'm really excited about the upcoming Hobbit movie!

Brinniel 06-03-2008 12:43 AM

Gorwingel! It's good to see you around again...I hope you're here stay for awhile at least. :)

Quick Dury, snare him with another splendid RPG proposal before he wanders off again...

Durelin 06-03-2008 01:03 PM

Haha, you flatter me now, Mith. It is always a great temptation, that game proposal form...

Thinlómien 06-04-2008 06:27 AM

What? A horde of old member reappearings?:D I'm especially delighted to see Envinyatar - he was the first ever to rep a RPG post by me, even though he wasn't even playing in the RPG...

Oh Dury, I dodn't do flattery merely state the truth... I still revisit Sirannon when I need cheering up.... (yes I do have a deeply hidden gooey side:p).

Nilpaurion Felagund 06-11-2008 02:17 AM

Been reading old Books threads, so now I miss Keep' and doug*platypus. :(

And Lindolirian. :(

TheGreatElvenWarrior 06-11-2008 07:05 PM

I see that nobody missed me in my short period of absence... oh well...

Mithalwen 06-19-2008 02:02 PM

He will probably spit his coffee again if he ever reads this...

but despite the fact we had many differences of opinion culminating occasionally in strong exchanges of views, I find I miss the humour and intelligence of The Saucepan Man greatly and hope that life is treating him well (now that he has seemingly discovered that it is sustainable beyond the Downs).

Eomer of the Rohirrim 06-19-2008 02:11 PM

I miss Saucepan Man too, and Fea. Larger than life figures both, but I also miss Numenorean. Where are you, man?

You know, he still has the most posts out of all Downers.:cool::D

Mithalwen 06-19-2008 02:35 PM

Despite not having posted for five months and little before.... yes..... while there are a delightful bunch of newer arrivals I do miss Sauce, Heren, Fordim and the reduced presence of others such as Lal and Dave.... the giants of my early days here...

Lalaith 06-19-2008 02:41 PM

I am sure you will empathise, Mith, when I tell you that reading the Grimoire while playing DWW, and now looking at Nilp's sig, has made me pine for Ang again. He was going to co-mod your operatic WW at one point, wasn't he? :(

Eomer of the Rohirrim 06-19-2008 02:44 PM

Ah yes, the other Downer, whose name would just not come to me a few moments ago, is The Only Real Estel. Funny guy.

Lalaith 06-19-2008 02:48 PM

Oh, and lovely Spawn. I always wanted to be a wolf with her....

Well, she has, as Mithalwen had said, found a life 'sustainable beyond the Downs' . . .

I've spent most of my time back at BD reading old threads . . . and remembering the old days.

Look at us, talking like a bunch of old forum members.

You are old forum members.

I hope I can get him at least to act as consultant still. Yes there are many whose presence on the Downs I miss - including Ang whose posts were utterly delightful - but have the consolation of knowing that they are ok and hopefully enjoying life through LJ and Facebook.

There is an extra poignancy about the absence of people you only know through the Down's.

Feanor of the Peredhil 07-06-2008 06:08 PM

I've said it many times, but I'm going to repeat myself:

The Barrow-Downs is the most fantastic web community I've ever come across. You guys are better than family.

:)

I missed you too.

Rune Son of Bjarne 07-06-2008 09:31 PM

I miss Gothmog!

He was nice to have around in many ways.

I guess I'm not just seeing things? Haha, she just couldn't stay away... :p

Wonderful to see you back here, Fea. :) (Yeah, even if I'm already starting to disappear myself...)

Ghostly, ethereal, and gorgeous though I may be... I'm here.

For about as long as it takes to play a werewolf game. I needed something to think critically about, you see. I get bored without things to occupy me. And you don't want to see me bored. Same way you don't want to see the Incredible Hulk... hungry.

Thinlómien 07-07-2008 01:19 PM

Can I second all that has been said here lately? I miss them too... :(

Too many names and persons I learned to love and appreciate have gone indeed even if I'm a relative newbie still...

But there are also new people coming in - ones to become the household names and to become ones like those left. Like life it means coming and going; birth, blossoming and waning.

It leaves one with a quiet sadness of losing a friend but also with joy of meeting new people as a prospect of new friends.

I guess the internet-age is like this, just a bit faster our life-spans and real-life relations are (now I was betrayed to be the oldie I am!).

Miss you guys.

ninja91 07-14-2008 06:22 PM

I have been real busy with RL stuff like college, all the works

I will do my best to get on frequently, I saw lommy's and legate's posts on the birthday thread, and I promise I will try to get on. I am sure you all understan that I love this place, but things happen

until next time

Mithalwen 08-08-2008 12:28 PM

As the situation in Georgia deteriorates, I am sure I am not alone in holding Heren Istarion and his family in my thoughts and in being grateful that he is at least away from the immediate area of conflict.

You're not alone. Heren, you've got all my hopes and wishes...

Mithalwen 08-11-2008 12:10 PM

Alas that my gratitude was misplaced due to faulty geography - looking at maps over the weekend shows he is more than close enough. :(

piosenniel 08-13-2008 10:37 AM

Just to let everyone who expressed concern about HerenIstarion - I received a PM from him early this morning:

All three comparably (say, to this morning's conditions) safe and surely sound. Hope it won't get worse than that.

Let's hope this dangerous situation in Georgia is soon resolved in a peaceful manner.

Thinlómien 08-13-2008 10:49 AM

Thanks, pio, for informing us... :) I'm glad to hear that he and his family are safe.

Feanor of the Peredhil 08-13-2008 11:04 AM

Thank you so much, Pio. It's so good to know that they're relatively okay.

HerenIstarion 08-13-2008 12:04 PM

Here I am in person (virtually)

Again restraining from prolixity for fear of getting disconnected, my apologies

Thanks Pio for posting that for me :)

And Mith, I likes your avatar very much :)

Mithalwen 08-13-2008 12:08 PM

It is fantastic to have news of you. I intend to keep my avatar until the situation is more satisfactorily resolved :).

Lhunardawen 08-13-2008 12:12 PM

HI! It's so good to see you here, and to know that you and your family are okay. :)

Feanor of the Peredhil 08-13-2008 12:26 PM

*hugs Mister Istarion*

Thank you so much for keeping us informed. I can't say I'd blame you if you were too busy to keep web-pals up to date. But it is nice to have primary source reassurance.

Estelyn Telcontar 08-27-2008 10:50 AM

For those of you who would like to read more about HerenIstarion's experiences in the current conflict in his home country, here is a diary that covers some of them: George's Georgian War Diary

I was very moved by what I read there.

Feanor of the Peredhil 08-27-2008 04:21 PM

Thanks for providing this for us, Esty.

Lalwendë 08-28-2008 02:33 PM

Cheers, Esty! So has he sent his little one out of the country or has he kept his family close now things have calmed down?

The bit that had my hair standing on end was when he was saying about the axe and wondering whether to black out the windows of the cottage.... And then writing about how he'd had his old Astra repaired...so everyday (I know all about the trials of keeping old family cars running) but in the midst of fear.

Lalaith 08-28-2008 04:20 PM

I was going to say that I enjoyed reading HI's blog but I feel that 'enjoy' isn't really the right word. Impressed, certainly - he is a very brave and resourceful man.
I have encouraged other people I know to read it too.
I hope that the power-addicts will grow tired of playing their ugly political games, and that there will be a peaceful resolution for HI, his family and everyone else in that part of the world.

Alkanoonion 08-29-2008 05:20 AM

A few months late in my reply sorry.
I am still here I just don't post much, mostly I lurk from work as a guest as I lost my net connection at home but I am back now.
Good to see George safe I was not sure if he still posted on the downs.

OOC do people here use facebook? if so feel free to add me http://www.facebook.com/people/Joseph_Wahl/1384816501 you can even have a look at my snaz new hair ;)
I will try and post more, only 391 post in 6years on the Downs lol :)
